I am an elderly befriender and one of my clients wanted to play this with me. I had never played this game in my life, but this video helped me so much - thank you. I am about to visit the lady in question now and hopefully we'll have our first game together 😁
I have family members at my house for a birthday party..bought this game and sadly never got to play it. Now I will introduce this cool game to them all and make it a favorite! This demonstration made it much easier for me to understand..Thank you !
This video is explained perfectly. I watched it three years ago when I bought a Rummikub card version to understand it. Today at lunch I played a round with some colleagues; I lost yet I managed to practice for future rounds and focus on strategies. Also, I see that you didn't mention the penalties for illegal plays, two minute limit and the points when winning/losing; yet, it doesn't lose the essence for beginners, medium or advance players.
We developed a few house rules which make the game more enjoyable and speeds it up a bit. Rule1, When drawing tiles at the start of a game, any double is returned to the pile, and a different tile is taken. This keeps you from getting bogged down with doubles. Rule 2, The game starts with 20 points, instead of 30. This gets everyone playing right away. Rule 3, The loser is given a joker, and must use it on their initial play. This gets jokers on the table, so anyone can use them later. Enjoy!
Our version of the starting 30 is you can play less then 30, but you cant start adding to otger ppls groups until youve put your own 30 down lol. So if you do 21 next turn you need 9. This way prevents ppl from having to take cards, if they at least put 3 down.
Thank you. I remembered that my family used to own one of these sets, but I never got to actually play the game. I thought it would be a good idea to learn how to play it and maybe I'll find some people to play it with in the future.
I know this game was played to illustrate the rules and it does that well, but I need to get this off my chest anyway. The player on the right in his last turn was actually able to win. He should have added his red 1 to the set of three different coloured 1s in the bottom left. Then he should have taken his blue 3 and added it to the set of 3s with the joker in it and thereby dislodge the joker. Then he should have taken the orange 7 from the set of four 7s and placed it next to the orange 4 5 and 6 row. After that he he would have needed to place the joker next to that 7 so that he could then add his orange 9. Having done that he then could have dislodged the orange 4 from that set and taken the black 4 from the black row on the left of the table and added his own blue 4 to form a set of three 4s.Then all he would have needed to do was take one of the red 5s and take the orange 5 and add his own black 5 to form a set of 5s and he would have won.
Our family plays Rummikub either daily or every other day and make moves like this or more complicated all the time. Remember though, you have to finish all your moves in 60 seconds or else face the 3 tile penalty!
Wow! Great video! We've had this game sitting in the cupboard for years. Decided to take it camping with is not having any clue as to how to play it. Now the competition is hectic downunder! Thanks for the video! ⛺♟🎲
I keep getting argued against this, but I thought this was the rule, can anyone correct or thumbs up?: Your initial meld is ONLY your own tiles and has to be at least 30. And then on your subsequent turn, you can then add/manipulate whatever how you please. Everyone says no, on your SAME INITIAL MELD TURN, after you have played the initial 30 point meld, you can also add/manipulate, etc. which I think is INCORRECT.
Yo, i was teaching my kids this game and i showed them this video my kids’ reaction= :O. i was so astonished at the quality of this video. Thnx so much!
That is really nice but for some, consider the same layout but use natural speed explaining each move one or the other makes. It would help a bunch of people enjoy the game~
2020 this helped a lot, my grandma forgot how to play so played off of the directions (they did not help at all) and when we were playing she was thinking that we were ending to fast so I looked up vids and this helped the most, thank you. now we know how to play.
I just bought this game today and was so confused reading the instructions. Now I get it and this looks SO fun!! I'm glad I got it and can't wait to play it! Thank you! (I may haha questions. 😉)
When the joker is used in a sequence (i.e., 1-12) and represents red 8, for example, if a player splits the sequence to create another one and takes the joker off the end of the split to use in another group or sequence, do they still have to replace the joker with a red 8 tile? In other words, if there was a sequence of 1-12 where the joker represented red 8, a player splits that sequence by taking the 9-12 to get to that joker, can they take the joker off the end, leaving 1-7, and making the joker equal another color tile and number, like blue 12? They would have red 1-7, red 9-12, and the red 8 now becomes blue 12 (e.g., blue 10,11,12)? I think they have to replace the joker with red 8 no matter what. There was a question when we played for the first time. Sorry if my question is confusing. Thanks for reading.
Assume that there is black run from 6-12 on the table. I have two 9 ( blue and red) in my hand, question: May I take the black 9 what divides the run into two 3 tile runs 6,7,8 and 10,11,12 in order to use black 9 for my set of nines ?
Great tutorial!! I forgot how to play it. Thank you for the refresher course :) *btw...Who would give this video a thumbs down? Doesn’t make any sense.*
Glad I could provide the refresher! :) It's a fun game, enjoy! The thumbs down are probably from all the people who still can't understand how to play the game..
I was excited about the tutorial because I am teaching a group this coming week how to play. The only part that did not appear correct is the last hand moving the 5's around to use her 2 and 6. There was a joker in the sequence of 5's and she never replaced the joker with a 5 but used it to make 2,3,4,5,6. The way I play you have to replace the joker with the tile number it was representing which in this case was a '5' and she did have one. Unfortunately I won't be using this tutorial...I'm disappointed. I love this game and hope others will too.
I suggest you guys to play Turkish "101 Okey" which means "101 Rubbikub" actually. There should be tutorials on RUclips. It's a little complex but very very fun to play with friends. It has a little intrigue inside and that makes it funnier.
at 5:12 the left player could win, split the red 2345 run to 23 and 45, put the red 3 in front of it from the group of 3s with the joker, then take the red 1 from a group of 1s to make the red 123, the orange 3 from the first group goes to the orange 456 run to make it 3456, that way the joker is free so it goes up to the black 45678 run in front of it as a black 3 and he can add black 2 in front of it, done
My girlfriend kept asking me if I wanted to play this game with her sisters and mum. I kept saying no, not really knowing what it was and I didn't want to be the only dude hanging out with 4 woman. Lol. I finally gave in and played and I was hooked. It really trips your brain out when you've got a table full sets and you try and convert runs to groups or vise versa. Love it
I play this without two rules: 1)First move must be a sum of 30 2)You can't have a group with a number of the same color (Like Two Blue 7 and one Orange 7) I think this makes it faster for me. Great video btw
Agree with everything except right at the end when the narrator says, "Congratulate the winner". Put a hex on them... call them rude names... spit in their coffee (not tea, spoiling the world's greatest drink would be going too far), but congratulate them??? 😮😁
I have a question regarding the game example. At 4:28 there is a black run 1, 2, Joker, 4, 5. The player on the right splits the black run and creates (1, 1, 1 Black, Red, Orange); (2, 2, 2, Black, Red, Orange); and (Joker, 3 Orange, 3 Red). My Rummikub instructions state: " A joker can be retrieved from a set on the table by a player who can replace it during his turn with a tile of the same numerical value and color it represents. The tile used to replace the Joker must come from the player's rack and not from the table. A joker that has been replaced must be used in the player's same turn with 2 or more tiles from his rack to make a new set." The player on the right did not replace the Joker with a Black 3 from his rack. Please advise.
Thank you for this. Seriously. I haven’t played in years so I needed a refresher. The Rummikub channel instructional video is fucking awful. Narrator sounds like he’s trying to sell Doritos in 1995.
So if I have a joker in my rack I can make a set purely from that and other things in my rack? I don’t have to use something that’s already on the table
I might have missed something but I have a scoring question. When you add to another players line do you only count the points that you laid down or do you count the whole line?
Once you start a run of one color let’s say you had a run of red and play it and the other person has a run of red does it have to add to the run of red so in other words if someone puts 1234 and the other person has 1234 in the same color they can’t play it right? I’m sorry if this doesn’t make sense
The tutorial is greatly appreciated, but, even though I slowed the speed down, the fast moving parts you speeded up made it harder to follow. I have the patience to sit through a normal speed demo.
Watching to learn. Played once with friends. At the end of the hand the tiles down were red 5 black 5 and wild tile. When the player made her play she did not replace the wild tile with a 5. Friends told me wild tile has to be replaced with a tile it is representing. Is that wrong?
This particular rule is not clearly spelled out in the game instructions so people tend to play using their own rules. That's why it's usually a good idea to make sure everyone is on the same page before starting. 😄 (kind of like UNO, where you can play it in many different ways) The way we play it in my family is that the wild does not need to be replaced with a tile it is representing. It can simply be "liberated" from the run or set it is in. Set example: Red 5 - Black 5 - Wild
i play it a diff way in the 2nd grade i won a rummikub competion and we barely used points all we did was make a set or group and whoever ran out of tiles won
Thank you! The included instructions are very incomplete in my opinion. We couldn't tell for sure that the tiles in the middle were community tiles to be used and manipulated by any player, or that you keep score as you go.
Great vid! Big question - what if a player has an idea, starts taking apart multiple sets but loses their train of thought? I think they draw 3 and forfeit their turn, returning all the tiles to their original spots. Or… can they then pursue a new plan - taking apart more and more sets until something eventually works out (or the game is ruined, there being no way to return all the tiles moved to their original spots). This question has come up in several games I’ve played. Is there a limit to how many sets you can simultaneously manipulate and is there an honor system in place as to your original intent. Is failing at your original plan and then pursuing a new one mid turn acceptable?
Excellent video, but I still have a question: what if there are no more tiles in the bunch? We should decide with points remaining from each player? thank you
When you take a tile from a run to create another set or run, are you only allowed to take an end tile? Let’s say there’s 3,4,5, and 6. Are you only allowed to take either 3 or 6? Or can I take any tile?
Hiya, can you rearrange tiles already on the board to help you make a set? For example if there was 555 and 2345 on the table, and you needed one of the 5's in the first set could you move the 5 in the second set and add it to the first set so that you could take the relevant coloured 5 to make a brand new set
It would be helpful to slow the video down as their play for the viewers to learn better. Rather than speeding it up. It’s hard to see their plays especially towards the end.
Great video, thanks! One question I had is whether the final move in this game should have been allowed... the joker is representing a 5 and hence should it not require a yellow or blue 5 to clear it (since it is part of a group and not a run) before it could then be re-used as a 3 in the new run?
Or I guess that the set of 5s is split by adding the red five to the 234 set and the black five is now part of a new set (456), and the joker is now clear...?
Atlas Cedar this is my question!!!! I don’t think (according to the Rummikub rules) that play would be allowed. But I guess it doesn’t really matter as long as you’re consistent about it? Bc even with splitting the group of 5, you’re only supposed to get the joker if you put down exactly what the joke represents. Or so the rules say
Does the 1 who puts the joker down decide on what color it should be (in a meld that has 2 different colors and a joker- can the player decide what color the 3rd one can be? Like if it's orange, black and joker - does the player decide the 3rd one is either green or red or can the next player change the joker into any color in the sequence? And if someone exchanges a joker with the same color that the person "named" the joker, can they use the joker for anything - or does it have to be the same color?
1. Do you play with a 2 minute time for each player. 2. Does the 1 who puts the joker down decide on what color it should be (in a meld that has 2 different colors and a joker- can the player decide what color the 4th one can be? Like if it's orange, black and joker - does the player decide the 4th one is either green or red or can the next player change the joker into any color in the sequence?
The only thing we do differently is the joker clear. when we pick up a joker from someone else's group you have to have both of the other colors missing in the run or the last color. Ie Black10, Red10 and joker down, someone else plays Yellow10 on the run and you play Blue10 to pick up the joker. Or you have Blue10 and Yellow10 to complete the set and play both to pick up the joker. The other thing is when you pick up the joker out of a run, you have to have the specific number/color to get it. Otherwise this game would be sloppy and too easy.
Hi.... I have a doubt.... Is it compulsory for a player to put tiles from his/her rack instead of just rearranging the previous tiles put down on the surface?
I remember playing this game back in middle school with my first girl crush. Back then I was always by myself sitting on a bench until she came up to me and asked me to play Rummikub with her. That's when we started playing it everyday during lunch break. (Ik this is random) But now I forgot how to play this so thanks for explaining it ಥ‿ಥ
Can you use the joker from the board or must you change it from your rack..say you need a yellow 3 and can move the other 3 on the board and take the yellow 3...
Hi what is the ruling on saying the joker... Is a player allowed to play a number and same colour when the others of the same number Nd colour are already down? Please let me know... Thanks
You're welcome! I struggled learning stick shift at first too. It really helped me when I finally realized that just like an automatic car starts to roll when you put in drive, so does the stick shift. In the beginning I was trying to press on the gas and release the clutch at the same time. Then I finally learned that even if I am not pressing the gas and am only slowly releasing the clutch, the car will start to roll! And then you can slowly start pressing the gas. That was a game changer for me. I don't know if you have figured that out yet or not but thought I would mention my experience just in case. Good luck!
This question continues to be unresolved when my friends and I play. If you're left with only one tile, can you add that tile to a run on the board and go out OR must you always have at least the three tiles to go out, therefore making it necessary for you to continue to draw tiles? We decided that you must have three tiles but still up for discussion.
The rules we play by is that only your initial set or run (the first one you play on the table) must be 3 tiles or more. After that players can place one tile at a time and add to other players' sets and runs
the idea of the game is to get rid of your tiles . if you are playing with more than 2 people you if they have tiles left they count up there tiles worth 30 points s joker is if you still have that and that way you know who comes in with the lowest amount is than 2 and than 3 or forth if 4 are playing
I am an elderly befriender and one of my clients wanted to play this with me. I had never played this game in my life, but this video helped me so much - thank you. I am about to visit the lady in question now and hopefully we'll have our first game together 😁
Thank you! This was much easier than reading the directions. My kid was like, oh, okay, I get it now! 👍🏼
Glad it helped! Thanks for leaving a comment, enjoy the game!
Thank you! Finally someone who can explain a game clearly.
There are so many that don’t make any sense.
fantastic tutorial. I read the instructions and watched the official instructions video and was still confused. Seeing someone play helps sooo much
2020 corona virus quarantine!!!! Here in Los Angeles ! Hopefully in the future someone sees this and we are waaaay past this!!!!!

I have family members at my house for a birthday party..bought this game and sadly never got to play it. Now I will introduce this cool game to them all and make it a favorite! This demonstration made it much easier for me to understand..Thank you !
It's an awesome game! Enjoy :)

Very helpful, I'd rather have games explained than read instructions! :-)
Amen, I don’t trust anyone who feels otherwise in this modern world.
Exactly.
Me too!!

I love this game! My family plays this game every time we’re together, Every holiday and any other events!!
What doesn't Amazon have? :) amzn.to/2Ex2sHJ
I just realized I didn't say Rummikub anywhere in the video! Now nobody can say i mispronounced it ;)
We developed a few house rules which make the game more enjoyable and speeds it up a bit. Enjoy!
Nice! I like all three rules! We will probably be borrowing them ;) Thank you for sharing!
Interesting
Our version of the starting 30 is you can play less then 30, but you cant start adding to otger ppls groups until youve put your own 30 down lol. So if you do 21 next turn you need 9. This way prevents ppl from having to take cards, if they at least put 3 down.
the instructions made no sense at all, but this did
Happy to hear it :)
This game was sitting at the back of my closet, and I had no idea what it was, but now I do! Thank you!
Enjoy the game! :)
Thanks we used to play this a long time ago. Your video was clear and covered anything in a concise fashion. We’re ready to go!
Glad it was helpful! Have a Happy New Year and enjoy the game!! 👍👍👍
Holy crap!! If I have to figure all that out in order to play this game I might as well go back to Uno!
Intuitively obvious!
Our family plays Rummikub either daily or every other day and make moves like this or more complicated all the time. Remember though, you have to finish all your moves in 60 seconds or else face the 3 tile penalty!
That 60 second rule mentioned below just burst my bubble...🤷♀️🤣.
this is my favorite game, its so fun and i never get tired of it
AWESOME tutorial i have been looking at so many tutorials and didn't understand them until I found this one THANKS
Wow! Great video! We've had this game sitting in the cupboard for years. Decided to take it camping with is not having any clue as to how to play it. Now the competition is hectic downunder! Thanks for the video! ⛺♟🎲
That is awesome! Happy to hear the video helped, enjoy the game and the camping trip!
Thank you! This video was very helpful. We haven't played this game in many years and this was exactly what we needed! Well done!
Thank you! Now I can play the new rummikub game I got for Christmas🙂
Thank you. Brought this for lock down round 2 but couldn't understand the rules. Now we can play
Thank you for the refresher. It has been many years that I have not played this game and your tutorial brought it all back again. Thanks
Glad I could help with that :) Enjoy the game!
Well done! I’m completely new to the game and now I can play and teach my family. Thank you!😀 Actually, I’ll just show them your video.😁
It's actually more fun with 4 or 5 players
I keep getting argued against this, but I thought this was the rule, can anyone correct or thumbs up?:
Your initial meld is ONLY your own tiles and has to be at least 30. And then on your subsequent turn, you can then add/manipulate whatever how you please. Everyone says no, on your SAME INITIAL MELD TURN, after you have played the initial 30 point meld, you can also add/manipulate, etc. which I think is INCORRECT.
The rule on the initial meld of what you think is also correct. But in the actual gameplay I only draw one then pass because its a strategy
A combination of Scrambled, dominoes, Uno, Mahjong and Solitaire.
Yo, i was teaching my kids this game and i showed them this video my kids’ reaction= :O. i was so astonished at the quality of this video. Thnx so much!

I didn’t know how to play but now I know how to play and I appreciate y’all because y’all help me learn how to play
Thanks so much for explaining. Made it so easier than reading the instructions. Love this game.
Finally we could start the game with our kids)))
Amazing explanation, thank you for showing the rules so clear. 🎉

I just bought the same one! Reminds me of Gucci colors and the metal legs for the tile racks. Had to have it!
I rarely play this game, but when I do, I need to relearn this game every time, so fun!
Best Tutorial Ever!

Some people complain their ice cream is too cold.
This video is so helpful!!
I tried watching other videos but I don't understand the instructions they were trying to explain.
Thank you so much!!
i just learned this last week by one of the residents at my work place, sm fun too play!
Thanks guys! Didn't understand the rules of our new family Christmas game.. Now I get it!
I just tried to read the rules and got so confused, this video explains it perfectly!
Happy to hear it helped! :) Have fun!
Best video on the subject of Rummikub. Well done!
Yea you guys explained this so well! The included written rules had us debating for 20 minutes 🤣🤣. Thanks for saving us!!!
Thank you! This was exactly what I needed to know to play with my grandkids!!
Awesome! Have fun! :)
I bought a Rummy-O set at a yardsale and never played it because we didnt know the rules. Thank you for your help 🎉 the wife and I now love this game.
am I the only carat who search this to understand seventeen playing this game? lol ok then
im doing that right now ahaha

A joker that was used as 13 was not replaced either. I was taught that the joker has to be replaced with the same number it represents
Thank you for this. Seriously. I haven’t played in years so I needed a refresher. The Rummikub channel instructional video is fucking awful. Narrator sounds like he’s trying to sell Doritos in 1995.
You're welcome! I agree! They have a good video but it is a bit rushed. Enjoy the game!

So if I have a joker in my rack I can make a set purely from that and other things in my rack? I don’t have to use something that’s already on the table
Thank you for this!!! The instructions in the box sucks 😂
Thanks so much the instructions here are super clear! Anybody can understand them.
Nope me and my mom are tryna play but I barely understand it!
the messenger sound you had playing was so cruel!! thought I was popular for a second
I might have missed something but I have a scoring question. When you add to another players line do you only count the points that you laid down or do you count the whole line?
This is really helpful to me! Thanks for creating this video! Now I could play with my 90 yo grandma!
Sorry about that. Most people don't have that kind of patience so I sped it up..
Set example: Red 5 - Black 5 - Wild
i play it a diff way
in the 2nd grade i won a rummikub competion and we barely used points all we did was make a set or group and whoever ran out of tiles won
When you retrieve a joker can you rearrange tiles on the board with one tile from your set to make a run?
Yes. At least that's the way we play it. 👍
Thank you! The included instructions are very incomplete in my opinion. We couldn't tell for sure that the tiles in the middle were community tiles to be used and manipulated by any player, or that you keep score as you go.
Glad I could help understand it better, thank you for watching! Enjoy the game!
Just found a bag full of these at a thrift store. Just to play match with a 5 year old. I'm watching this video to see how it is really played
Excellent video, but I still have a question: what if there are no more tiles in the bunch? We should decide with points remaining from each player? thank you
Yep, you would just tally up the remaining tiles in each player's hand
When you take a tile from a run to create another set or run, are you only allowed to take an end tile? Let’s say there’s 3,4,5, and 6. Are you only allowed to take either 3 or 6? Or can I take any tile?
Any tile as long as whatever you finish up with still is a set or run
Hiya, can you rearrange tiles already on the board to help you make a set? For example if there was 555 and 2345 on the table, and you needed one of the 5's in the first set could you move the 5 in the second set and add it to the first set so that you could take the relevant coloured 5 to make a brand new set
Rachel Gregoire Yes, as long as there are no duplicate colors in the group of 5’s.
Thanks for the video, the instructions had me lost!
Glad it helped! Enjoy the game :)
It would be helpful to slow the video down as their play for the viewers to learn better. Rather than speeding it up. It’s hard to see their plays especially towards the end.
Thanks for telling me now it much easier for me
Great video, thanks!
You can free a joker without replacing it with the exact piece
Does the 1 who puts the joker down decide on what color it should be (in a meld that has 2 different colors and a joker- can the player decide what color the 3rd one can be? Like if it's orange, black and joker - does the player decide the 3rd one is either green or red or can the next player change the joker into any color in the sequence?
And if someone exchanges a joker with the same color that the person "named" the joker, can they use the joker for anything - or does it have to be the same color?
Thank you! Now I got the rules.
The rules does indicate, as you say, that both colours in the run are required to use the joker.
I thought you could only group 3 or 4 tiles but they've got up to a group of 8 (Red tiles 5 through to 12) around 3-4 minutes mark?
Thanks for this detailed explanation!
Very very good! We now understand this game and are playing it. Thanks
Good job explaining
(Ik this is random)
But now I forgot how to play this so thanks for explaining it ಥ‿ಥ
What I believe I’m seeing is -you can’t draw & play that tile in same action? Love this game
Yes, what you said is correct :)
How do you pick tiles when you draw a double
Great video but how is it scored at the end
Very well explained. Thank you!
So easily explained, thank you 👍
Can you use the joker from the board or must you change it from your rack..say you need a yellow 3 and can move the other 3 on the board and take the yellow 3...
Very good explaining
Hi what is the ruling on saying the joker...
Is a player allowed to play a number and same colour when the others of the same number Nd colour are already down?
Please let me know...
Thanks
Thank You🙏Very Helpful💝 Now Can Help Me With My Stick Shift Transmission Driving Skills.😂Or Better put my Lack of Skills
Good luck!
Can you use 2 jokers from your rack and the pool/river to create 2 melds
Nope, just one
