In the past, people who immigrated and came in through Ellis Island depended on family members who were already here. They had a sponsor.They didn't come and fling themselves on the mercy and generosity of the citizens.
Exactly how my entire family immigrated here from Ukraine. first it was my immediate family & I back in 1991.. then my mom became the "sponsor " for the rest of our extended family such as grandparents, aunt's, uncles, & cousins!
Slowly but surely, over the span of about 10 yrs, my single mama of 3 (she was like superwoman in my eye's lol) got everyone of our relatives settled into their own fully furnished apartment unit in the same complex as ours!
she'd rent one out on their behalf prior to their arrival, & eventually after they'd get settled in, & start becoming financially independent etc.
They got used to the hotels and now they don't want to go to the shelters. They feel entitled to keep staying in the hotels, some had been in hotel over a year, there are limits. They need to leave if they dont like it they can return return

So shelter conditions aren't good enough? The same a small portion of our veterans (the lucky ones not on the streets) use? Where on this place called earth does a country place illegal migrants above it's own veteran class? Veterans who sacrificed everything to keep this country safe. So sick of the US government saying it doesn't have funds for adequate veteran housing and care, yet it continues to shovel money into anything but that. Where is all this funding supposed to come from? They said they didn't have it to begin with supposedly. It's going to get bad in the shelters. Imagine being a veteran waiting 3 years at a shelter just to watch an illegal immigrant get placed into housing in weeks. Or a single mother trying to support a child, desperately jumping through hoops to get assistance, just for the program helping you loosing funding because they couldn't handle the 300+% unforseen influx of clients flooding the shelters. Just a couple hundred extra people unexpectedly can wreck havoc on smaller agencies working with the homeless and housing crisis. Imagine I just kick in your door and 200 of my friends crowd around your dinner table and get mad you can't feed us all right now. That is exactly what illegal immigration is right now.

Okay I agree that they need to have adequate bathrooms, but that said how is sleeping outside with no bathroom at all any better. Give it time find or offer solutions this is not the land of entitlement for those that do not yet have legal rights to make all of these demands. The fact that they live, eat and get money off of the taxes of some citizens who are now homeless, and they keep demanding more is just so sad.

I was at Whole Foods in NYC this weekend - actually three different stores. The same homeless population who are usually there were still hanging out. I went upstairs to eat with my kids and the midtown WF had many migrants there. My husband speaks French and was talking to them. There were a few men from Ghana and Sudan. They hardly spoke English (very nice) but the two Sudanese men asked us for money for a place to stay. Both had 4 grocery bags and just helped themselves to whatever they wanted. One man told my husband that he stays there all day long, uses the bathroom (which my kids couldn't use because they were not taken care of and trust me, they are not divas about where they go to the bathroom) and then sleeps in hotel that is nice but loud. One told my husband that he has a card that has $5,000 on it and will get another one every month. However, his friend is in a camp outside of the city near Rye, NY. This group seemed grateful but it is frustrating that we work very hard to pay high taxes and we have to pay $120 for dinner for six. All of us are immigrants, but our families had to work - blood, sweat and tears - to make our way. The American dream is being able to build your own business by working hard. It seems like there is total destruction of this.

Better life doesn't mean that they are in danger in their homes and must flee they are coming for money MOST of them. they think they will come here and get a high pay just to realize that they will never leave some kind of shelter and if they do, they will be struggling to get a good paying job good enough to pay the high rents in NYC.
