  • A lovely piece for four violins from a composer better known for his work as a new-music pianist. The indefatigable Paul Zukofsky (x 4) performs.
    Art by Jackson Pollock.

@wmotamedi It's art, first and foremost. What is the purpose of art? To solicit emotions, and that, as your first heated response verifies, it has done successfully. It's not about PLEASURE solely. That is only one emotion in the broad spectrum of emotions capable by humans. If all music did was aim to please you, then we'd ONLY have pop music. It's ok not to like it, but to troll the comments putting people down who sincerely appreciate it...well that, my friend, is pretension.

Looking forward to listening to at least a few of these. My exposure to atonal and avant garde music is very limited. I hope you can find time to post more. On another note, I'm sure you know you are wasting your time on Wim W's channel, especially with that Jeremy guy. I was banned there for much less than some of the comments I see, especially under the "Can you play this?" nonsense. How can one reason with people who live in an "alternative facts" world?

@wmotamedi You're right. My whole point is that you can say whether you like something or not without attacking those who DO like it as if their opinions are "insignificant and petty". I would have never said anything to you had you left out "This is the kind of stuff that pretentious losers brag about knowing to boost their self esteem". You are making a bit of a hypocrite out of yourself by calling me out for something YOU are doing: disrespecting others' opinions.

@wmotamedi I just remember (I think) track 10 on Deloused being my favorite. I'll re-listen. Anyways, no worries. You know how RUclips is famous for these kinds of arguments :d

Really cool... was written in 1964 though.

@wmotamedi Hmm, I was just being over dramatic with the criticism of your piece, btw ;) There is a difference between overly emotional and striking emotional chords in a person. But, now that we are talking about TMV :D You think Deloused is better than Frances, or Amputecture? (I'm not provoking you, this is a serious question. I'm a huge TMV fan). Production-wise Amputecture did it for me. It's an epic album. And Frances has all the groove and raw solos...for some reason I never got Deloused.

@wmotamedi And by the way, using ad hominem attacks is not logic, THAT is stupidity. If you really want to discuss music - what is/isn't (or more of your opinions), I'm all up for it. I am a music composition student, what do you REALLY know about music other than your opinions?

@wmotamedi Oh my! Quite perverse, indeed. Herp. Derp. Yes, hmmm Beethoven is poop. Complexity, dear sir, is the highest art. You poor minimalist droid...Sigh, no, wmotamedi, of course not! My point is to show how easy it is to judge, and how much harder it is to try and understand a piece, which you haven't done here. All I want is for you to be able to say "this music is shit" without attacking the people who like it. That. Is. All. I hope you have a wonderful night. Write more music!

And who said this composer was trying to make a "masterpiece"? Perhaps he just wanted to write something. Are you really trying to suggest that if a piece isn't a masterwork of humanity comparative to Bach, or Mozart, that it is utterly worthless? That it can't just exist on it's own?

@wmotamedi God, you are such a troll. First look up the definition of song. In fact, I'll do it for you: a musical piece adapted for singing or simulating a piece to be sung. This isn't a SONG. Second...name me ONE traditional structural format without going to Wikipedia. Structure is such a vague word. The piece might be "structured" around melodic material (this one isn't), or dynamics, or timbre etc. There are many things that can be defined as "structure".

@wmotamedi Art: The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination. Stop being an elitist. I saw the piece you "composed". How much creativity or imagination did that overly emotional, derivative "song" of yours take? Let's see...common time. A minor (did you ever modulate)? Triads throughout in the left hand. Simplistic, repetitive harmonic progression. Did you even bother to notate it? By the way, the Mars Volta is a huge fan of John Zorn. You will crap bricks to his music.
