I think we can all agree this wasn’t a predator attack… the question is what happened to cause all these birds to crash into the ground. Their impact created a giant dust cloud…
Magnetic anomaly, pulse. Birds as a flock, lost their up/down bearing same as stunt aerobatic pilots sometimes do during manuevers. Entire flock dived, lost track of how close to the ground they were, slammed into the ground full speed. Most got up, flew away but a number of them died on impact.

My guess is that their flock was to low above ground, then one of the birds spotted some threat then moved in the wrong direction and the swarm navigation sent them all downwards. It's because when they fly in the swarm they don't really look where they're going, they just look at the distance, direction and speed of the birds directly around them and try to maintain the desired position without regard for the movement of the whole swarm. They practically follow only two rules: Try to stay in the center of the swarm and maintain a proper distance to the other guys. @@ingwiafraujaz3126 As a native English speaker, the contemporary use of Amazing is almost always in a positive sense. And never in a negative sense. Whereas "shocking" would more often be used in a neutral or negative context. He chose an awkward adjective there, that's all.
They don't fly individually, they fly in a collectively guided manner. If many of them decide to fly down and up to avoid a predator, the entire group will replicate the movement, even if there isn't enough altitude for everyone to do the maneuver.
Best answer out of all the other…idiotic…descriptions. Starlings do the same thing at dusk. Thousands of them move about in this memorizing cloud of birds changing directions every second.
@@yaynative I watched a bird fly down and into a window and kill itself to avoid a predator - with another bird smacking into it from behind to ensure the poor thing died on impact. I think it's just very atypical.
This is false. Fish for example swim in groups to avoid predators (because predators will have to traverse larger distances until they find a prey), and when the group gets attacked by a predator they swim in all different directions to maximize they survival chances (as predators will get confused) and then slowly group up again (smaller groups first, then a big one). This same principle applies to flocks. This is explained in several books about chaos and complex systems.
It happens with starlings when they group up really big. The back half of the flock cant see through the flock so the first half turns out of the dive and the second half doesn't have enough time or room to pull up.
This is what I was looking for. Some sanity. The predator theory is asinine. A hawk? What did he round up all the birds first? The concentration of birds did not come close to confirming that conclusion. Sorry about the c's. Unintentional. Your theory makes sense. I think their expert should have thought about it a little more.
I've seen this several times. They're merely flying along with the group like how sheep would follow each other without knowing where they're going. They just go with the flow. Some of the maneuvers involve sharp dives. Obviously if you're flying in a pretty dense flock, you're not going to be able to clearly see what's ahead of you, this is what caused some of the birds to smack into the pavement and die. Imagine you're running in a dense crowd headed towards a cliff. The people at the front will see the cliff and move aside, but the people in the middle will not be so lucky and end up falling off by not reacting fast enough, and/or by being pushed off by an equally oblivious group behind them..
After what happened at Astroworld, I avoid dense crowds like the plague. "Fall off a cliff"..more like compressive asphyxiation or trampled to death before you even get to the cliff
Amazing does not mean good, it means somebody is amazed. I can be amazed sometimes how bad my kid is. Although he did have too much of a smile in his actual voice when he said it… Dang
What about those two helicopters that fell out of the sky on the same weekend......one in Los Angeles and one in Miami........wouldn't doubt if this is all related.
This happened near where I live. A couple of years ago the same thing happened right outside my house. It was very sad to see all the tiny birds on the ground. Edit: damn I wasn't expecting all the angry people in the replies. This happened near a small city called Rubio that is minutes away from my hometown of Cuauhtémoc, in the state of Chihuahua, México. A similar event happened right outside my house a couple of years ago. The same type of bird too, they migrate from Canada in the winter. No one really knows why it happened, but some say it was due to the smog. I kind of agree with Angeline in the comments though, about it being a magnetic anomaly. Weird stuff happens around here.
I feel like a lot of people have never even seen flocks of black birds like this. It’s pretty normal. Used to see them all the time making weird shapes in the sky and completely covering power lines as a kid but as I got older I feel like it was less and less. Nice to see them again
Umm, but this isn’t a flock of birds flying around? It’s a flock of birds flying so fast into the ground that dozens or more of them died. I see flocks of birds flying around literally all the time it’s an extremely common thing to see here in upstate NY, but never seen them fly into the ground and kill themselves like that. C’mon, it is not “pretty normal”
It is less and less and it will be less and less. Big Agra and pesticides, pollution and many other issues have decimated the bird population. Butterflies too. When I was young the yard was thick with them. Almost never see them now. It’s sad.
@@nate-the-fate6584 Dude grow up. Youre how old? Calling someone a snow flake for having empathy for animals that died on impact because they were in danger is not neing a snowflake its being a decent human being.
@@krazeelety Amazing isn’t necessarily a positive thing. It just means something was worthy of causing you to be surprised or astonished. That many birds falling out the sky like that would definitely leave most people amazed
If this was because of a predator, wouldn't we see the predator flying after them and grabbing the ones that were left on the ground or flying after the ones that took off?
That's not how an entire flock responds to predators. The ability to fly does not leave them when a hawk or other predator birds single out one bird among many. This was an Electronic Pulse of Frequency that made them all dive simultaneously and plummet to the ground. THAT IS NOT NATURAL!!
What would be 'going on with the world'? We don't need animals "acting strange" to know about climate change. So what could it be? There could be many explanations for this, sometimes some birds flock up too big and lose direction, it may have been an electric wire, a predator, etc.
Just because this was recorded doesn’t mean it’s just happening. You do realize camera footage hasn’t always been around right? This isn’t a plague it has happened before
As someone who works on AM radio towers: they probably had just turned on the tower after workers were on it - and their little bodies usually can't handle it. That's why there's so many bird carcasses in tower compounds.
That happened to me riding my bike in my neighborhood! They were hundreds of birds that suddenly dropped down and covered the street. I've never seen it before!
Did the fly down and land or were they pushed down like in the video or did they free fall ? Serious question I'm only asking because we have huge flocks of crows that land in our adjoining field sometimes and it's amazing to watch. They all take off together and it darkens the sky as they go over it's crazy cool.
While I was duck hunting one morning I saw two huge flocks of teal fly directly into each other at what appeared to be 30 mph or more. I expected them to hit each other and fall to the water but instead they instantaneously formed one larger flock and never touched each other. It was a phenomenal sight.
It's never happened with a flock, but I've had birds run into my house's tinted window about 2-3 over the last 10 years. One of them died from the impact, and the other two times the birds were just stunned for about an hour, and then flew again after recovering from the impact. They were parrots all three times, and I live in Asia.
When I was a kid, a bird smacked our window and landed on our dog house. I took a picture of it and won the junior high photography contest. Soon after the picture, the bird bloated up from eternal bleeding and died.
It really broke my heart, I feel so awful for some of the birds that died or got seriously injured. I wonder what it was that made them do that. It looks like that old horror movie with the birds attacking (not sure what it’s called) I hope it wasn’t toxic fumes or electrocution, makes it hard to believe it’s a defence thing because I’ve never seen anything like this or heard of such thing. This is a unique situation but yet a lot of animals do crazy things for self defence so we really don’t know for sure. Edit: thank u for letting me know what the name of the movie is.
I’ll give it to them, amazing does not always mean a good thing. I can be pretty amazed at how terrible things can be or how bad things can be sometimes

Invisible wall? Ummm I saw very visible asphalt they flew into. The oddity is the fact they flew directly into the ground, not that they were suddenly stopped by some invisible force.
It feels like a wind! You can see the wind swirling with dust when the birds try to fly away after the impact(don't know if it was caused by birds though). It could also be that they did indeed inhale something toxic along the way that they fell off.
I’ve seen flocks of birds, but never in my life have I seen this many birds together at one place, and i’ve definitely never seen them pour out of the sky like black liquid
Back when I lived out the country thousands of these black birds would put on little air shows. It look like black clouds were waving through the sky. And when they all landed in the yard or pasture they covered the entire place. One little tap on the window and they would all take off though lol.

I feel like humans behave in similar fashion
Still doesn't seem like a typical outcome of a predator attack 🤔
@@yaynative I watched a bird fly down and into a window and kill itself to avoid a predator - with another bird smacking into it from behind to ensure the poor thing died on impact. I think it's just very atypical.
This is false. Fish for example swim in groups to avoid predators (because predators will have to traverse larger distances until they find a prey), and when the group gets attacked by a predator they swim in all different directions to maximize they survival chances (as predators will get confused) and then slowly group up again (smaller groups first, then a big one). This same principle applies to flocks.
This is explained in several books about chaos and complex systems.
