This is the issue with None Contact Karate. Very hard for everyone to see who is really winning. There really is a better way. If we want to get Karate back into the Olympics after this year we will need to make some changes. Consider Koshiki Karatedo rules. We need contact to get the hardcore audiences and people that don't practice engaged.

FYI Rafael Aghayef has competed in full contact Karate before, and he did win. Point sparring and full contact both serve different purposes, and both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Gotta respect both.

Particularly if they don't practice themselves. I appreciate both. The problem is when people only practice point fighting they often find out that their timing and distance is not suited for a real contact sparring session. I can pull my kicks and punches just fine but I never practice point fighting in the Dojo. We all have control when we need to. The average person needs to be able to see who is winning clearly to get into the match. And unfortunately this type of point fighting with no contact is just to difficult to judge properly. It does not represent the whole Karate community. And as a result we have been kicked out of the Olympic games. People would rather watch skate boarding. This is the point I am making here. No disrespect to point fighters that go both ways.

Great AThletes, really ... maximum respect for them, they are absolutely great in what they do ... But this is sport, not martial art ... I will always prefere traditional Karate, although i think that combining their athletic skills and modern methods od training with the tradition (search of Kime, spirit, in other words BUDO) is probably the best way to follow!

This style is based on Shotokan, but certainly isn't shobu-ippon.

@@hiranom20 Agree to an extent, but even in the nihon or sanbon format there is too much emphasis on that "golden", decisive strike, and it favors waiting and positioning rather than closing in for a technique. If we are talking about point-kumite, than possibly ITF or WTF Taekwondo rules would be more interesting as a spectator sport, IMHO.

This is WKF, not "Shotokan-Style". Shobu Ippon is the Shotokan preferred kumite format. WKF have become more sport than an martial art.
Just look at the ridiculous point system in WKF. Trying to promote spectacular techniques rather than those that really work.

Алексей Орлов эти движения на подкорке выстреливают в бою. Дал что: скорость.. наверно все, ее теперь не пропьёшь, ну иии техника тоже на автомате, кумитэ , все дела. Больше ничего, в контактном реальном бою- это все фигня.. попрыгать как обезьянка перед соперником, пофинтить, подергаться.. на этом все заканчивается искусство шотокан... про ката я вообще молчу🤣выступал в основном в кумите на соревнованиях( бой), ката считал парашей ещё будучи юнцом и не прогадал))
