  • It is VERY RARE for a group of males of any background to come together to speak openly and honestly about fatherhood, about manhood. In a very special Sirius XM Radio program (on Urban View Channel 126), GRAMMY-nominated poet and noted journalist KEVIN POWELL did exactly that: 5 generations of Black men, all different types, shared their hearts and minds, for 3 hours. It is a powerful and breath-taking conversation. All the men who appear in this interview are also in Kevin Powell's forthcoming documentary film about fatherhood and manhood, WHEN WE FREE THE WORLD. It is time for Epistles on Fatherhood to be written...so let The Word and your words flow ~
    Let us continue acknowledging
Malachi 4:6, "His preaching will turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise I will come and strike the land with a curse.”
This message is NOT about religion, but about RELATIONSHIP.
Malachi 4:6, positioned as the closing verse of the Old Testament, acts as a bridge to the New Testament. It speaks of fathers and children having their hearts turned towards each other, foreshadowing the importance of healed families and lineage in the coming era.
This echoes the 400-year gap between the Old and New Testament ~ while ALSO drawing a spiritual parallel of the 400 years since the arrival of African forefathers on these shores.
And so, after 400 years, on this day, in this time, we stand poised to experience the fulfillment and blessings of Malachi's prophecy --- while simultaneously knowing all too well the backdrop of a 'curse' that can happen when fathers aren't engaged, or able to be engaged, as loving, praying, guiding, and affirming fathers.
As fathers and children (both literally and metaphorically) embrace this bridge...we will continue to witness more and more hearts of fathers and children turn back, paving the way for a New Testament reality filled with His Peace as we walk with Him through temperance, atonement, forgiveness, healing , reconciliation, restoration, redemption, and salvation...and the blessings of building nations (plural ) in God's kingdom together...
