You know it’s funny, I have a ton of extremely expensive gear (mainly traditional type) for month long expeditions, different gear for winter travel, fall and winter travel while hunting, etc. etc. so I got the Nova Craft Prospector 16’ in Tuff Stuff Expedition. It’s fantastic…..my point is that even with this gear which is incredible and I enjoy every minute on a trip, some of my most satisfying trips have been with a minimalist bushcraft setup. Those are the trips where I have lots of time leftover each day because of simplicity, where the full kit trips…..I WORK HARD! Those bushcraft simple escapades are when I wish I also had a restored Chestnut cedar/canvas about 14 or 15’ long.

What would you suggest for a big water canoe touring type canoe that you could load up with camping gear and fish out of for one person.

What type of canoe is good when the lakes get choppy a foot or so, from the wind? Thank for sharing the knowledge.

Yea, I really miss it too. The spring and fall expos were great. We don’t have anything like that anymore. I wonder if there is an opportunity for Rutabaga open a store in the Twin Cities, or move Canoecopia here in the future.
It’s kind of strange, many of the canoe specialty stores are no longer in the TC area in spite of the large canoe/kayak community.

I watched a video of a guy remodeling his canoe 🛶, it was similar in structure and design to the oldtown canoe with the seats being the width bracing and also the gunwall to floor bracing he didn’t like the seats were to uncomfortable so he removed them he had good ideas but completely ignorant of the fact that he had completely removed the structure in doing so which can distort the shape and performance. He constructed a couple of platforms he mounted deck swivel seats that you would see on a bass boat and just set them in the canoe without fastened , I wish you could give dos and don’ts for the guys that don’t understand that if you take out the structurally designed support of the gunwalls to floor you must somehow replace that when remodeling your canoe 🛶 a short video of the canoe structural bracing and purposes would probably do .

Don’t even try canoeing if you can’t understand that you may as well just stay home and smoke some more and just dream about it
