I'm not quite sure if his voice could be as it used to be but as long as he can sing and play guitar i'm a happy John Mayer fan!

Out of all the guitarist John Mayer's guitar style is the hardest to master. He doesn't play fast like malmsteen and doesn't have the versatility of guthrie govan but his sense of rhythmic patterns when he is playing is on a whole other level. If you listen to the outro of this version, John Mayer is incorporating a very smooth guitar technique, where he is just playing a few notes but each note is being complemented by a slight mute. This is just pure feeling and it cannot be taught.

To all those scared about his voice. He's recovering both physically . And in terms of his vocal form. I take voice lessons and have been singing for a couple years now. And if. Take a couple months off or get sick for a while it Hurt my voice even a little. It takes me a good couple months to get 100 percent confident in my range and tone and register control. THIS MANS VIOCAL CHORDS WERE PARALYZED FOR MONTHS ON END. It will be a while but his voice will return.

I couldn't agree more. There are guitarist/bands from the 80's , even the 70's that have a level of difficultly that will frustrate you in so many ways possible. For example: RUSH, VAN HALEN, TOTO, GARY MOORE, JEFF BECK, STEVIE VAI, ERIC JOHNSON, or DAVID GILMOUR. Don't get me wrong, I love John Mayer and does do some crazy stuff, but you can see where he gets his stuff from. Especially form Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I love the new version, but it's still sad what happened to his voice.

I think the point that 'EDDERGC' is trying to make is this: I don't think anyone will argue that Hendrix's sound is harder to repeat...due to his use of effects, guitar setup, and natural playing style. But from a technical standpoint, mayer may be more challenging to repeat just because of how incredibly clean and rhythmic is lead playing is

I know Voodoo Child. In fact I'm a huge fan of both Hendrix and SRV but I'm talking as a guitar player. They're legends, nobody can't deny that, but I'm talking about the playing technique. Mayer does things that none of them ever did (I don't know if they lacked of the skills to do it but it's a fact that a lot of Mayer songs take a lot of practice)

you're always good enough to play like you but you're never good enough to play like someone. you can only add a little bit of someone's flavour.

    1) go on google and search type in this song called 'voodoo child'.
    2) listen
    3) Compare to mayer
    3) Repent.

have you heard of these names?
    a) Jimi Hendrix
    b) Stevie Ray Vaughn
Hardest to master, please, do you even guitar

Did anyone else play this then find themselves wondering if he would be able to hit the falsetto as the chorus approached?
I am here for the long haul... You wouldn't hear a word from me if John Mayer needed a tad assistance from Autotune. That would be the ONLY case of it being acceptable.

  • @EDDERGC
    @EDDERGC 11 лет назад

Without Hendrix or Vaughan there would be no Mayer. But still, Mayer's style is definitely harder. Do YOU even guitar?

i have no idea what hendrix you listen to. Mayer's fast licks are just pentatonic scales, you see many covers of mayer on the internet that can sound exactly like mayer, but when watch hendrix covers it always sounds a bit off. Is that not enough proof that hendrix is harder to emulate? Have you played any of their songs before? Seriously dude. I could go on but i feel like im talking to a brick wall. Anyone on the internet will agree that mayer is a basically a portmanteau of srv and hendrix.
