They need to be installing more storage and more efficient long distance conveyance (covered to limit evaporation) and more efficient methods of irrigation. They have been delivered a clear warning that the storage is insufficient to meet demand given current use practices. But I can hear it already wah I cant wash my car. wah I cant afford my water bill, wah there is no lettuce...

Yes, Mead and Powell will rise this spring but it'll take several years of these same type winters to get back to full and even then, will still have water shortage issues in the SW as there's just too much demand for one poor river.

Many Golf Courses use dirty water to irrigate...Funny how many commenter's like to bitch about peeps in CA having a lawn and some Golf Courses...We all do conserve...The people that are managing the resource are the problem in my opinion...They never allow the lakes to fill up...In CA they are already letting extra water out when the lakes are 40 to 50 feet below full because they are scared of future storms and snow melt...They do it every year and then cry about no water all summer and fall...just like clock work...

All this snow is certainly a good sign but keep in mind that it took years to fill the basin up originally. To fill the reservoir, we'll need many years of this kind of snowfall to get where it needs to be.

The only solution is to use less water. All the old water compacts need to be tossed out as they were based upon invalid assumptions. The federal government should mandate a new water usage plan to all the states as the majority of the Colorado river watershed is federal lands.

since both lakes are wide places in the colorado river they would have to raise. BUT that doesn't mean the dams are retaining the the water, or open letting it go on down river. If lake powell is retaining a lot then lake mead will receive less since it is down stream. who will win the bidding for the water?

Depends on which section; West Water Canyon will be big as well as Cataract Canyon which has the added Green River, and also Glenwood Canyon. Grand Canyon is dam controlled and They no doubt will be trying to bring the levels back up in Powell. They most likely will be sending some extra down to Lake Mead but I doubt if it will be like the old days. Your best bet for a big ride will be Cataract as it may be running 30-40k cfs or more by early june.
