Just bought the Dell Inspiron 15 Touchscreen Intel Evo Platform Laptop - 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 Processor - 1080p - Windows 11 with 16GB RAM, 1 TB HDD (Model i3511-5088BLK-PUS) ~$550 US. McAfee Security fouls up mouse response, too many defaults cause problematic jerky motion, lagging keyboard and several other glitchy problems. Have spent about 30 hours correcting the Dell out-of-box problems since it was not usable; removed McAfee and use Microsoft Defense, Malware Bytes, and WebRoot. Now works great and HDD doesn't seem to slow it down. Overall, happy with it now and love the upgradability; lack of USB-C is a bummer, but don't need Ethernet.

The mechanical hard drive will be really hurting the performance - particularly when it had McAfee installed.

I picked up one of these for 200 bucks recently and it was super easy to throw in extra storage and memory. My work provides a machine with a lot of horsepower to run all the applications for my job, so this laptop is perfect for personal use (emails, web browsing, occasional word doc or spreadsheet)

Bought a 3501 for my 10yo in 2021. I thought it was quite good as was able to easily open it to put in a hard drive and upgrade to 16GB RAM myself. Intel Tigerlake XE graphics is OK for light gaming, Fortnite even. Practically a gaming laptop!

Biggest problem with this is the attachment of the hinges to the lid. It's easy to upgrade...just a few screws...and you have access to two memory slots and a bay for a 2.5" drive. Obviously the ssd can be as well.

    • @BrueComputing
      @BrueComputing  2 года назад

Never had any problem with the hinges, but anecdotally they do seem to be a weak point - generally its the mounting points pull out the plastic as opposed to the hinges themselves failing.
I have an upgrade guide here: ruclips.net/video/hSrN1tw4a9A/видео.html

Thanks! Very clear observation of this model. I have just bought it and since I am absolutely inexperienced in this kind of shopping, it is my first bought laptop ever, before I used to work on a second-hand laptops given by my richer relatives; and thus, I have just started to panic as I don't discover in it a port to connect to the wire from my modem as I have the wired Internet connection. So, I wasn't completely wrong by buying it? It cost me 41 thousand roubles plus 7380 roubles additional service guarantee for three years. On the whole, it cost me the fortune of 48 380 roubles, an enormous number for me and I hardly can breathe right now. So, I can connect this model to the wired Internet connection, but I need also to buy USB A adapter, right????!!!!! And one more worry for the present which prevent me from normal breathing, it has batteries, does it ???!!! I haven't discover them on the backside of it placed alike with my previous second-hand laptops and immediately started to panic that I spent the fortune for a wrong laptop.? did I???!!! Are those batteries hidden and can be removed by a user? And one more detail, I have installed WINDOWS 11 on this model. And the last thing, which is my biggest worry for the present, I was told in the shop that I have to perform the initialisation of this laptop to make it work and there at once appeared a problem as they (shop-assistants) said that I have to choose ONLY one language and it will be the system language. I have got confused as I used to work in English and need English as the basic language of the Microsoft Office Word for example. On the other hand, I am not so perfect in English to understand everything and also, as I have already known for sure, to my great astonishment, programmers here, especially the staff in the service centre, don't know English at all and thus there will certainly appear the problem for them to fix it if the system is in English what will be a problem for me as well. And I have other questions. Can you do a tutorial about how to do that initialisation and advise on the language and the rest, please! Please!!!

Such a shame that new laptops are more prone to QC issues. Manufacturers are cutting too many corners and it's the customers who are hurting.

HP looks to be a slight better choice - has a slightly brighter screen (250nits vs. 220nits), and 256GB SSD is a lot more useful than 128GB which can quickly fill up. Has USB-C as well, albeit not with USB-PD or DisplayPort I assume as not listed in the specs.

Dell is now denying warranty for "Accidental Damage" for things like the power port failing. Their hinges are an issue for sure, but the power port design and/or installation fails when the solder connection separates inside the device. This will cause the power to disconnect then reconnect and eventually will not allow charging. My unit was 10 months old when this started to become an issue. Dell Warranty department told me that plugging in, and unplugging the power adapter is cause for failure and is "ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE" and therefore not covered. They also told me that an issue I was experiencing with the mouse pad was due to using the laptop on my lap?? They have fallen to new lows with ways to scam the consumer.

Sounds a lot of money for the 3511 - particularly with only 8GB RAM. Don't really know the US market/pricing though.
I'd probably take an i5 (or Ryzen 5) in a better quality chassis with 16GB over a 3511 with an i7. Its a budget chassis design so I'd not pay for high-end hardware in it.

The packaging is terrible and exposes the laptop to accidental damage while on transit. I guess because insurance covers that.
The plastic casing feels cheap and the keyboard rickety to use. It releases annoying clunky sounds when typing. I've never encountered a keyboard so cheapish like this on a laptop.
Battery drain is terrible even when on power saving mode. I get around 5 hours on lightweight usage. I expected around 8 hours from it's 41Whr battery.
My old Asus had a 26Whr battery and could manage 7 hours when new.
The good thing about it is the WVA Full HD display. It has excellent colors and it's crystal clear from any angle.
Performance is amazing too because the 11th Gen processors and Ryzen 5 5000 series deliver more than enough power to run through office tasks easily.
The 65 watt charger also comes handy for quick recharges.
It's sad that DELL makes it difficult for customers to post product reviews on their website.
It's 13 days now since I bought this laptop and I can't see anywhere to post a review. DELL customer support are also not of help at all.
Give or take, I wish I would've spent $200 more and get a better laptop.
