I regards to leaving Wavey outside of a store. Make up a sign with the message that states she IS NOT abandoned and list your name and number on it. Use it where needed. Also add a tracker to her collar that will link to your phone so if she ever is taken, you can track her. Easy Peasy

I grew up in a port town still in its hey day. It was like something you see in movies. Then the malls, Wal-Mart and Sam's came along and it was like death by cancer. Slow and sad. People tried to bring the downtown back several times over the last 40 years but no luck. I love seeing the ones that have come back from the grave and the America I grew up in still exists in part.

Muscatine: In Twain's Life On The Mississippi he wrote that the best sunsets he has ever seen were in Muscatine. On our own CG rivertender down in Keokuk, I thought the winter sunsets to be awful spectacular, too. Memories In Muscatine: Our river tender pulled in for the night in Muscatine. Not often did we overnight there, but that night, we did. With time to kill, my Damage Controlman 2nd Class and myself broke out our mountain bikes to do some local recon of the area. We headed north and were on a side street filled with some single family homes. It was O-dark thirty, like no street lights! We passed one home with their garage door open and brightly lit, several folks sittin' around in chairs, talking. How, I'll never know, but one of the guys saw us ride by and asked us to come over. "Hey, would you guys like a beer?" For sure, thanks! We told them we were from the CG rivertender and they asked how the duty was, etc. That was now some 30 some odd years ago. And it's those human acts of kindness that always stuck in this New Jersey-born and bred Coastie's mind. The nicest and most welcoming folks I've ever run across were those good folks living in the Upper Mississippi River towns. As always Brenton and Wavey, thanks for bringing us along for the ride. You don't know how many memories you've brought back with my own time on those river miles you've traveled on!

Glad to see another old Coastie on here. I never did get to be on an ATON boat on the river, I thought I had gotten a billet on one that runs the Tennessee out of Chattanooga. It fell through on me. I did my time on different Cape Class 95" WPBs out of Key West and Miami Beach. SEMPER PARATUS.

I've noticed over the years watching YT that there's two basic approaches to making videos: one tries to inspire folks to do the same, and one tries to provoke envy. I try really really hard to inspire folks. It literally comes down to: if we can do it, so can you. Believe me ;)

Back in the 70's I would travel to Florida on route 27, it would take a good week to make the trip from Big Rapids Michigan but you drove thru all these little towns; then the interstate highways & often routes 27 began to build bypasses around the little towns so the traffic only saw the little towns from a distance & many of those little town businesses could no longer remain in business. Your filming of these little towns may be the only way many folks get to see a time when passing a person on the street you called them by their name & wished them a good day.

    • @michaelgarrity6090
      @michaelgarrity6090 10 месяцев назад

I think Cairo is pretty well dead. Several bad floods contributed to that and that for the most part, that entire region it's in is pretty well devoid of much economic activity these days. On the Ohio, there really are only three main regions that things are good economically, right around Pittsburg, from Cincinnati and on downriver to Louisville. Paducah, Ky seems to be doing pretty good too, but most of the Ohio River Valley towns are pretty well beat down economically.

I did read up on your Yammie "making oil." The easy fix is to run your motor at WOT for a short time before you shut it down for the night. On a boaters forum, a lot of people with just about every make of four stroke obs, their dealers told them to do that. I had a 70 foot river going houseboat with twin gas Mercruiser inboards that I mostly ran at less than full throttle most of the time but at the suggestion of the mechanics, I'd run it at full throttle for five or ten minutes every so often.

Seeing Wavey at Dollar General, makes me want to share my own Dollar General Beagle story with you. ~
A few years ago, my Beagle Rico & I went to Dollar General one hot summer day. I left Rico in my truck with the motor on & ac running while I dashed inside the store. (I carry an extra set of keys so I can leave truck on & also lock the doors) ~ I also rolled his passenger side window down about a 1/4 way. ~ While I was at the check-out, a young boy flew open the store door & hollered “Hey! Is the lady with the Beagle in here?! Her Beagle has his head stuck in her truck window!!” ❗️ ~ I took off running for my truck to find Rico had stepped on the electric window button & rolled the window up on his neck. ~ Thank goodness I ran around to the driver’s door & opened it & pressed Rico’s window button to let it down. ~ In hindsight it occurred to me that if I had opened Rico’s door in panic, I would have strangled him. ~ But all ended well. 😊

You You should try trolling a crank bait behind the boat on your traveling at 5 mile an hour. You probably get some hits and some fish to eat. Just straight back behind the outboard would be great

I just realized just what it must take to get you out of breath while walking. I doubt I could ever keep up with you and Wavy for long.
I agree with you completely about your thoughts on on slightly emptier town centers.
    The 1851 church was amazing.
Is Wavy chipped? I highly recommend it. Stacy is. Max will be soon. You just reminded me.
Very cool view out the window at the end.

Just subscribed to your channel! We so get it that there is not enough footage, especially of the crazy wild moments when you can't pick up the camera because the rain in pouring and your grabbing fenders to Raft in a Lock or on a dock😅 Enjoying your videos and wish we were behind you to get some more stop ideas 😊

Welcome. Thanks for finding us. I know what you're talking about with having the camera out. It really takes 2 people. The Beagle is useless;)

My thoughts too. A light vest type thing you could carry in your pocket, and then slip it onto Wavey that says..."My Human will Be Right Back"
