excuse me to say this but the side effects just might not justify the drugs it as though you give numerous physical disorders to cure a mental disorder and in the end the patient is unhappy and nonproductive this seems a little cave age is this moral ethical medicine ?

I have MDD and anxiety. Abilify saved my life. Several years ago I was suicidal and very depressed. I had tried other antipsychotics such as Seroquel and Risperidone. They had so many negative side effects I couldn't take them well. But Abilify was different. My worst symptom was weight gain but i could still function and feel better at the same time.

The individual who needs these medications, hopefully is monitored with a doctor so they can quickly respond to the side effects. I am glad we have them for those who are psychotic, however, we have to make sure they are only treated to the need they have, not over treated. We also need to make sure there is adequate psychotherapy to work through the trauma they possibly have experienced which helped produce their psychotic break. There is a need for medication and there is a need for psychotherapy. We need both. Read information by R.D. Laing and the history of understanding Schizophrenia. It is more than just a dopamine problem. It is a multi-causation mental illness which needs to be treated in a bio-psyho-social approach. I have a sister who has this disorder and another sister who has a drug induced delusional state. One is on state assistance, the other uses drugs and won't stop. So, I have seen both ways a person experiences delusions: Drug induced and naturally occurring schizophrenia. It has been a real journey.

Consider talking about the patient's perspectives as these things are happening. It's quite perplexing to think through those changes in your brain as they're happening to you, and many times it's assumed the patient won't remember what's happened, and abuses are rampant. It's odd to see this taught with so little of the feelings of the patients involved, but it does cover the science of the thing at a decent level.

My wife and I have 15 years of living with schizoaffective disorder. Over that time we have tried several different antipsychotics. They all seem to work in some way with varying degrees of success. All of them have a certain number of side effects. Some bad and some just mildly annoying. Over time she has ended up taking Clozapine. Of course it has side effects but luckily she hasn't had any of the serious ones. She drools like Cujo in her sleep and we write about that here - www.queenslandmentalhealth.com/clozapine/ Overall the Clozapine has lived up to its reputation as the "Gold" standard of antipsychotics and she wouldn't change back to either Olanzapine, Abilify, Haldol or Risperidone for anything.
Thanks for your excellent vid explained the chemistry behind how the drugs work

Most anti-psychotics are dopamine antagonists, but why is aripirazole a partial agonist for D2 and still does the job?
I was also thinking about Parkinson's disease. it can also cause psychosis but PD patients have a dopamine shortage. Would Aripiprazole as a partial agonist be useful in PD patients with psychosis?

Most psychiatrists are psychos ! And need a taste of there own medicine ! I had to help my woman wean off after antidepressants made her mad and then they forced her on the antipsychotic ,but now she is normal except EXTREME tailbone pain which I hope she does not have to endure long , the pain meds are going to be hard to get off as well but at least she is not running all over looking like a nut case or beating on herself , yelling NOOOOOOOOOO ! and her eyes aren't opening and rolled to the back of her head while sleeping and much more ! She is normal again except response in speech is slow because of pain. I knew it was the drug cause her autistic niece takes the same drug , but not for pain , and does the exact same things.
I am so mad I want to get even ! I want to start a world wide protest everywhere and all over against all that have a hand in destroying peoples lives with these DEATH SENTENCE PILLS ! If nobody is going to do something about it , then it's time to go to war against them and all who have a hand in it !
Lets not just sit around talking about it , lets do something about it ! And NOW !!!
    WHO'S WITH ME !!!
