Operational Camouflage Pattern Effectiveness
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 май 2016
- In this video we look at the effectiveness of the U.S. Army's Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP), in a Woodland Environment during the Spring / Summer time (North Texas woods). This video will consist of numerous scenes where each will begin with a concealed stationary position (both with & without the use of vegetation), followed by a movement phase out of the initial position. The purpose of the video is to give the viewer a chance to see the individual camouflage pattern and how it looks and blends into this environment. There will be varying degrees of how much of the uniform will be exposed to the viewer. Some scenes will only expose little more than perhaps a hat, while other scenes will have virtually no vegetation covering. This video is a little different then my normal effectiveness videos in that the camera is moving opposed to a still shot.

If a country ever decides to invade us, I feel bad for any enemy soldier that comes across this guy. This man has a camo pattern for every damn day of the year, he would be a ghost lmao
+Ichigo Kurosaki what if the enemy has thermals, does he have one of the uniform designs that heavily reduce thermal signature. Because lets face it thermal optics are one of those things we will see more and more on the battlefield.
+John J standing under a tree hides your thermal image if say a drone is looking for you plus i think thermal blankets can also hide your thermal image and at the end of the day you can simply smear mud all over your body à la Predator
Riad Haidar
the mud smear thing doesn't work, well it does but only for like a few seconds. Thermal blanks I don't think will work since they are so thin and are meant to trap heat, thus would easily show up as an unnaturally occurring thermal signature.
He even drew down on Santa.
This man is a combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, and he still is serving his country in two other aspects. I'm pretty sure he was a staff Sgt. while on active duty, and I believe a Gunnery Sgt. in the reserves. WTF have you ever done other than troll youtube comments.
I spotted most of the hiding places in a matter of seconds, so effectiveness is hard to judge. But there's also a difference between knowing what to look for beforehand and stumbling into a scene like this in real life without knowing that an "enemy" is there.
You'd think that the greener/woodland patterns would work better in this sort of heavily vegetated terrain, but I actually think this OCP (Operational Camouflage Pattern) works best of all in the various tests he's done. Most woodland patterns are darker, and tend to stand out more than the slightly lighter/paler patterns such as OCP.
Very good video - well done.
I think the pattern works wonders against the ground - especially in his environment; lots of greys and tans - but once he rises to anything crouch or above, the pattern sticks out like a sore thumb, to me. I think if it had a bit more green in it, it would work better at a crouch or a standing position. Still, not a bad pattern.
Brent.....OCP was excellent in this coloured environment. It especially blended in well in the shaded areas of the forest/bush. I have found that it is also very effective in the bamboo areas of SE Asia in the dry season. Can send you some photos for you if you would like to see them. Cheers mate,
Rosco
I think the MultiCam patterns, while they don't have as much contrast for breaking up a silhouette as old school Woodland, have excellent qualities when standing in shade, you don't end up looking like a dark blob.
The brightness on this is good, but it needs a richer apple green to match the dense vegetation like greenzone pencott has
also they are good in semi arid environments.
I really appreciate you putting the British MultiTerrain in the side-by-side shot. I've been wanting to see a good comparison between these patterns.
*those
+Jordan Hoffman Actually it would be great a Brent´s squad video with all 3: Multicam, multi terrain and ocp
Jordan Hoffman they more or less are the same except for the slight difference in pattern shape or a little more color to adapt to certain terrain like Multicam favors desert and urban terrains while OCP scorpion favor woodland a little more and British multi terrain is like a variation of multicam with different design both are probably the most universal camouflage there is in the military market right now
That slight variation in pattern can make a significant difference. I don't own any British MTP so I haven't tested it and I'm not sure if Brent has tested it yet, but just judging from the side-by-side comparison the MTP incorporates longer splotches, essentially mimicking existing foliage e.g. sticks and branches. It's admittedly a small difference, but I'm betting it's effective.
@@hanburgundy4317 I own some MTP, and personally I think it's great, it matches just fine against any MultiCam gear I'm wearing like my backpacks, and the DPM brushstroke shapes match foliage like branches very well.
Actual real world performance between the three is likely very close.
Do we all agree this is yards better than UCP?
UCP = Unoperational Camouflage Pattern
Thank god we are switching them out
Not yards miles and miles!
@Red Hunter Desert marpat worked way better than ucp in Urban.
meters*
im impress how effective it is blending in the enviroment
This is a GREAT tactical demonstration!!! AND! Those patterns are pretty much alike, with minor differences...BUT what I enjoyed MOST was FINDING YOU! THANKS 0331!!
AS USUAL, I BOTH learned, & now KNOW, what works in what way!
I'm a TEXAN, so, your terrain is quite DEFINITELY, my back yard!!
What would be really helpful is if you repeated the test dressed in blue jeans and a white t - shirt, that would really enable us to see how effective the cammo is :)
Or just don't film with a potato.
@@brookshadlin117 yeah because in real life, you are watching a hi def screen. oh brother.
@@jtjt1836 When you assume. Al you do is a make an ASS out of U and ME.
Jarred Taylor Do you not understand how eyes work?
@@jtjt1836 Eyes are way higher definition than 720p.
WOW !! That is the BEST one yet!! The other multicam pattern a person could spot you a mile away because it had too much tan in it. But this one you vanished! There were numerous times I could not see you and you were out in the open!! I was always skeptical about multicam but this pattern seemed to have more green in it.I will definantly be purchasing this stuff !!
Thanks for always getting down and dirty just to show us the real time effectiveness of these camo's. No ego's just business. I just received my own OCP FRACU BDU's.
love it !!! glad I got this pattern as soon as it was released to the troops.
Seriously, brother, thank you so much for making these videos. They are bloody brilliant!!!
+mysticookiebear Thanks brother, I appreciate it.
Somehow I always imagined Texas to be more arid, but where you're at looks amazing. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.
Towards the west and south
First thing I noticed on this pattern was the amount of browns compared to the original MultiCam.
This one is great in this envorionment! Both the terrain and the camo are very bright.
Great comparison - the lack of knowledge to tell the difference between what MTP and Multicam is, good job sir!
+Tom Eason Thanks man.
Awesome Display with the 3 Varietys next to each other and looking into the Difference between them.
This was a great video. I really enjoyed it I can't wait till the Air Force starts wearing it in October!
Damn, at 8:24. Hey Brent, when did you get a cloaking suit?
it really did look like that lmao.. thats crazy.
I expected to hear "over here...over here...anytime..." in a creepy metallic whisper.
Sick! For real
Even in 720p, he was easy to spot in that one. Do I just have better eyes than everyone else? Forget about color, just look for a human silhouette, you'll see him most of the time in this sort of pattern. The higher contrast patterns are more difficult, provided the overall design is not too dark or too light. Multicam, and its derivatives like this one, are much too flat for this sort of environment. They do better in more open environments where the light is flatter.
@@fakecubed - I think I just happen to pause on that frame, and looked away for a bit, looked back and lost him.
That's awesome camouflage it works well
Great video and the pattern is very effective especially the incorporation of light when it hits the pattern. There were times where your rifle gave you away. Overall very effective.
I agree how many people consider Multicam and the like to be universal. When under shadow, it matches the foliage really well. The only issue I have is that when in broad daylight, and against a summer green backdrop, they light up like a birthday candle. I like specific patterns myself, so in the summer here in Michigan, I picked Multicam Tropic. I would also probably prefer a camo that was a little too dark as opposed to a little too light, like Multicam. It seems like a little too dark doesn't make you as easily visible as a little too light.
exactly, where i live is mostly bright green grass 9 months of the year, ocp definitely works but if im prone in a field i'd stick out like a sore thumb, not that i have a huge problem with that i did two tours in ACUs. mixing and matching ocp and tropic seem to be my best bet.
Funny thing is, I’ve done field training Ops in Michigan with the Army.
Finally!!!!!!! I've been waiting for this!!!!!!!
Outstanding video, as usual. Thumbs up!
+Chris Adams Thanks
This video was like playing where's waldo. It was really fun! In about half the clips I literally had no idea where you were!
I remember being out in the boonies in the grassland desert of Colorado for a vehicle class. There was a group of us that went out to do a class while I was a part of the group that stayed with the vehicles. It took me a second to find them. But eventually I did. It was so hard to find them when they're wearing OCP and I didn't know where they were! Ofcourse after I knew where they were, they were easy to find, but it just goes to show how magnificent this camoflage is! Unlike that dog water grandma's couch crap.
good stuff, I really like this pattern thanks again for posting the video keep'em coming
+Richard Santiago Thanks bud
Hey Brent! Thanks for the vids! Your channel was my go-to resource when trying to select a camo pattern for wildlife photography. I think my selection would have taken longer and involved more expense without the benefit of your videos. I selected CADPAT in the end but I still like watching your channel. Thanks Sir!
Thanks brother, I appreciate it. Glad I could help.
awesome camouflage! OCP kicks ass :)
Great vids brother !
Thank you as always
Sometime in the future you should try out aor2/NWU type 3 and as always keep up the great videos.
To really experience this somehow close to what it would be IRL one has to watch it on a big screen and proper viewing distance.
Each time I couldn't spot Brent fast enough I got this "You have died" video game feeling which adds up to these videos being surprisingly fun to watch
Well this is a fun little channel going to be spending to much time on here hunting, one thing to say after a while I end up hunting for your hat more than anything.
I gotta say multicamo and realtree edge are very great for any wilderness like this
👍 great video and I appreciate the video test
I like that OCP it is very effective I the woods and you were very good . thanks for sharing.
+Rusty Nail Thanks
:-) just say you do a great job . brent
greatr videos, and this does prove that this camo pattern and colour sceme is ideal, and much more adapting to woodlan. Not nearly as dark as woodland was, and 110% better than UCP.
For temperate climates this pattern seems superb. Big improvement on the MTP & Multicam.
when i saw you sit on the stump, i knew this was gonna be better than multicam right off the rip.
this is freaking where's waldo next level
Crushed__Ice I was going to say the same thing lol
Great videos, as always. Like a chameleon.
Great stuff
Very good video. Best
+Tom M Thanks
Hey brother! love watching your videos man especially the patrol considerations, learned more from your vids then when i was in the army (19D cavalry scout). Think it would ever be possible to do a camo effectiveness video on South African Defense Force Nutria brown and the pattern 83 battle jacket? (strongly considering getting that LBE for various reason)
Thanks brother, as far as the SAF uniform/gear I don't know if I'll ever get that filmed, however, you can watch my video on Coyote tan to get an idea on how it may preform.
Great pattern
Excellent video as always and great comparisson between MTP, OCP and MC. It would have been great to add the australian version of the MC but I guess is really hard to get...
Cool video
Been looking forward to this one, great as usual! if I ever stop by Texas I should bring some Spanish camo for you to test lol
+Daniel Adam Thanks man.
another great video!
+Godthepredator Thanks
Nice video
Thanks great job. I use these to teach my granddaughter to use her "(hunting eyes)". shes getting much better now that we are putting a movie night out as the prize if she spots you more than I do.
+HellsScoutAct Nice
Very well done, Even though i can Spot you in the videos i couldnt spot you in a Combat Situation.
Very well done
Thanks
Usual good video. Thanks for pointing out that the older garments were faded; there can also be differences in batches of fabric. I have a Multicam boonie and a couple of Multicam BDU-style coats; even new, the coats were noticeably duller than the cover.
+Pete Sheppard Yeah, I have a few different garments of Multicam that very slightly in appearance. The most notably is a pair of Multicam BDU's that I bought back in 2008 (Before Multicam really became mainstream). They are visibly different in colors then the ones I bought years later. Both are Crye, and both garments are made by Propper.
awesome video brother, it's like a tactical wheres waldo
Thanks for all of the time, effort & money you put into these vids. They're awesome. Have you ever viewed any of these patterns with night vision goggles (not for the IR visibility, but for the color comparison)? I've heard that some of these patterns really stick out in the NVG's color alone, without any heat source.
No, I don't personally own and good quality generation NVGs to do that.
Lol I had fun trying to spot him in the video!
Definite improvement over commercial multicam. I like it better.
very good
That's VERY good in that environment
First I'd ever seen any of this guy's videos. While I was able to correctly guess where he was in many of the tests, I also kind of know what to look for, AND to look for him in the first place. It wouldn't have been much easier if my crappy connection results in my browser automatically selecting a lower resolution. That being said, with just the uniform and some face paint, I'd say this stuff worked pretty damn well. He didn't attach anything to his clothing, like foliage or whatever, that would have helped break up his outline even more, but just staying still with some plants between him and the viewer worked pretty damn well.
So now I'm going to have to see how well the all terrain tiger stripe pattern works.
glad we chamged the army camo the old one wouldent blend in with jack shit it stood out 😂
Ezno313 it would blend in with that one couch
The thing I noticed with this pattern is that it blends better when he was in places where both light and shadow were present. He really faded into the environment when he chose to be in those mixed lighting areas.
Much better than the original Multi cam. I finds that Multi cam because of its fine patterns just blend into a mono-colour blob at a distance. This one seems to have more larger patches of different colours.
Hey Brent did you see the new US army camo , it is a mix between DpM , Multicam and woodland , really good , I am getting it when it comes out
very good thanks
+ccccrnr Thanks
WOW its pretty damn good camo! primary i was confused about OCP comparing to MultiCam but this day i definitely saying that is the best camo pattern so far. in Europe i still cant get this camo with new ACU :(
Brent0331, pretty good video, substandard camouflage. The Scorpion w2 pattern should be phased out when the entire military decides on a pattern that is used universally by every branch. Such as a Hyper stealth pattern, or a homegrown, omni directional fractal pattern.
I expected it to do well. However, it exceeded what I expected. Thanks again for doing these vids. I hope all is well.
+Worldwide Bushcraft & Survival Thanks man.
I love this pattern. Army finally got it right
Hey make a vid with pea dot 44 , it is my favourite in the fall and concamo .
I just recently tried a cool combination I mixed UCP pants and a OCP top with a UCP FLC and mixture of OCP and UCP pouches and it worked very well for my environment what's your guys option
Nice! I like the pattern a lot. But man, it is pretty expensive for the pants alone. Thanks for the video! I might pickup that pattern if it gets a little lower.
Thanks
If you had to pick 2 camo patterns excluding snow, for year round, what would they be?
Have you tested "Natural Gear" camo as of yet?
The most dangerous game of Wheres Waldo
Also, this stuff works way better than I initially gave it credit for
Dude I could hear the reconnaissance aircraft trying to find you, LOL. It seems like these patterns act more like vegetation in areas where there is some light coming through. Leaves do reflect light and the light colors in the patters mimic that more closely.
You make I hard to pick one..... Good vid
+Beaneeman67 Thanks bud.
Ok it is just a little different maybe slightly more green and brown. Great video🇺🇸
Brent - any plans to review Polish "Camogrom" - their version of multicam ? Helikon makes a very cool uniform in that pattern
Not at the moment. If its similar to Multicam I have videos on Multicam, MTP and OCP already posted. You should be able to get a good idea on how effective it would be by watching those.
That camo rules!
cant wait to wear this uniform when i join spring of 2017
It isn't till 2019 that everyone must go to OCP so you still might get the older UCP.
diamondheat9 No. Basic Training will distribute them starting 2016. So he will get the new uniform.
they aren't giving UCP to the new guys anymore.
keith mooney I'm going to miss this transition period when it ends it's pretty cool to see all the different variations of uniforms like wearing desert sand t shirts and boots with OCP
did you EAS yet soldier??
This right here would make for an effectively fun drinking game.. I think I only spotted you once. and that was a guess.
Choosing between Multicam and OCP; which one would be the best all around pattern? Thanks
whats a good camouflage for the caribbean
nice..
Ok. So I have a Multicam Molle ruck. Is there a way to make it more into a Ocp ( (scorpion) colors ? Has anyone done this ? Did it work? How did it work out ? Thoughts ? THANKS!
In you're own opinion, do you think this has any advantages over multicam? Also, what about this compared to multicam tropic?
OCP seems it would work alot better in the fall season.
Works quite well there in the light woodland but at times it really sticks out, like taking a flashlight
Damn...thought Pappy Boyington was looking for you there ...was waiting for a straffing run to come through
Ha, did you watch the show Black Sheep? That was one of my favorites growing up.
@@Brent0331 I did, and I figured I throw a famous jarhead aviator out there for ya....keep up the good work, I've been enjoying the various ACSS optic videos as well...huah
Btw...I say jarhead with the utmost respect ...we're all on the same team, and you guys usually have better ROE, so I liked being around you crayon eaters...lol
OCP is my favorite multicam. US Army finally got it right.
The Army is moving to Scorpion Camo. They added sage and tree bark brown. Once again a private company gets the nod. Hunters have been using Scorpion Camo with the muted brights for a while. They fixed the fading problem also the Army claimed.
I'll endeavour to send you a sample of the new Australian Army multi-cam mate.
This out performs traditional Multicam in a greener environment by a significant margin. I do believe however, that in the event you are actually there in a physical sense, perceiving things in a 3d space instead of a 2 dimensional screen makes an enormous difference with what you eye is able to pick up on.
not too shabby. i used to hate MultiCam but it's grown on me. but between the 3 different patterns... what would be the specific areas you'd pick for each one? to me MultiCam seems to be the all-around-go-to. i feel all 3 probably would have done well in this exercise. IMHO.
great vids man.
+Dan E. Thanks brother, I think all these of these patterns offer relatively the same level of performance. If I had to recommend one I would say buy MTP because there is plenty of great quality British military garments on the surplus market right now at great prices. You wont be spending as much as you would if you buy Multicam or OCP.
Can you do a vid on Boonie hats and which ones you prefer?
You should try the LBX Project Honor Camouflage
Where do you get all your camo , I usually get mine off Amazon because there isn't a surplus around where I live .
+S. Murphy Sportsmansguide, majorsurplus, keepshooting, ebay, etc.
IDK if its the camera or what but it seems like Multicam and OCP tends to just blend into a greenish tan blob .
I spotted you most of the times in this one and easier than average. From now on I'll keep track, just to be semi-scientific for ya
