Jack Harlow just makes me think about how good Mac miller would be at this point. Like if it was any white person in hip hop I was cool with succeeding it was him. And I envision him on a Tyler type run if he was still here.

I just feel like mac was Joey badass at best. Not breaking any new ground or introducing a new flavor. His biggest achievement was being a good white rapper and now I see ppl putting him on lists with Jay Z and Tyler. The amount of leeway and leverage u can get over in the hip hop community by being average and white needs to be studied real shi. Cause I sure u if a black person released his music he would've died silent because for us that's what ur supposed to be doing.
My HATE for Jack Harlow wakes me up most mornings and is what gets me through to my resting hours.. I don’t believe anything about him as an artist - OK you make a song talking about how your friends are not exempt from being called out from misconduct towards women - but then he goes and collabs with Chris Brown…. He’s been made in a Lab by Apple Music - no I will not take off my tinfoil hat.
“Harlow is to Drake what Cordae is to Cole” I’ve been saying that. Both are young enough to keep an eye on what they become. Cordae’s Lyricism & connection to his hero’s journey aren’t there yet, but could be. Harlow’s hit making ability, versatility, & lady joints aren’t there yet, but could be. I have serious doubts for both, feels rather bland thus far but it’s exciting to speculate on young talent none the less.
1:59 He’s ABSOLUTELY correct! I said the same thing 3 years ago at the peak of his hype. What’s the big deal about Jack Harlow? He’s mid as a rapper and as far as looks he’s just tall and white
He’s a guest, wasn’t invited, was welcomed anyways for a while, started acting up, and then said “I don’t want your respect.” Idk about you, but if someone came into my house uninvited, I was courteous anyways, and then they started acting like he has been, I’d want to kick him out too.
@ I’ll give you my honest perspective, informed by the folks online who know about the history of hip hop and other black art forms. I apologize for the length, but I’m home from work now and can explain my perspective properly. I won’t be replying further in this thread, as I have nothing more to say after this post. Up to this point in history, Hip Hop is one of a few Black art forms which has not been stolen by white folks. By this I mean that rock, jazz, blues, bluegrass, country, folk, and so forth are all rooted in Black history yet are not widely recognized as such. Hip Hop is not this way, and from what I’ve heard most respected figures in hip hop would like to keep Hip Hop recognized as a primarily Black art. This does not mean the exclusion of white people, but it does mean that white people are not to be made central in Hop Hop; it is to stay a centrally Black art. With that said, I can now properly explain my comment. White rappers are considered guests in Hip Hop by people who would like to keep it centrally Black. The metaphor is that Hip Hop is the home of Black artists, with white artists welcomed in depending on their merit and respect of Hip Hop. That’s the metaphor I am making reference to in my original comment. White rappers essentially are never invited, but can still prove themselves to be honorable guests. Jack Harlow is a white rapper who hasn’t been a respectful guest within this metaphor. He has a whole song on his last record complaining about people attributing his outsized success to his whiteness. This attribution is accurate, and even someone like Eminem recognized this about his own success on “white america.” Now Jack Harlow is saying he doesn’t need the respect of Hip Hop, which is itself disrespectful to Hip Hop; he’s saying that he doesn’t need the respect of his peers, predecessors, and the people whose art form he is making money off of.
