    I do think it’s interesting how so much of the issues of the deck are “too many sideboard cards accidentally destroy bogles”

    Wow, and I just recently placed 4th on my LGS a few days ago, and I discovered this video. I placed 3rd and 4ths in my LGS tournaments with Bogles, beating the likes of Rakdos Scams, Izzet Murktides and Rhinos (by the skin of my teeth tho). I won't deny the mulligan problem, so I tried slotting in at least 2-3x Silhana Ledgewalkers. TBH, the only reason I'm even playing Bogles is for an excuse to play Light-Paws, so...Yeah. Really can't deny the big flaws. Best Bogles can be in is Pauper of all things.

    I hope that Bogles will one day become THE cheap starter deck for modern again. It used to be easy to play for a total noob and a good way to learn what other decks do while having a decent chance to win.
    I don't want to take a friend to FNM and have to lend them some mind melting deck that I have to explain to them for an hour first before they can play - and which they themselves couldn't afford without saving for a few months first.

    • @sephyrias883
      @sephyrias883 6 месяцев назад

      "Starter deck" maybe, but I don't think Bogles will become a viable tournament deck again, at least not with the game plan of hitting the opponent with a big beatstick, Modern is well on its way of becoming a turn 2 kill format.

    Great topic for a video. I really like how you made the bigger point that the style of "Auras" decks has been pushed out of WotC's design philosophy. One nuance I would like to mention is that it seems WotC has dedicated aura design to a strictly limited sphere. We are seeing some strong auras being printed at common and uncommon rarity in newer sets that are playable in draft and sealed. I guess the future of auras will only exist in that space.

    • @HPuzzleYT
      @HPuzzleYT  7 месяцев назад

      Yes, I agree with that completely! We have these strong auras that are great...in limited lol

    • @ich3730
      @ich3730 6 месяцев назад +7

      i kinda want to speculate its because aura's just dont support fun gameplay in a constructed enviroment. Either you slap them all on a dude that cant be interacted with and your opponent has to watch your creature go brrrr, or your opponent uses one of the answers to 5-for-1 you and instantly win. Equipment shows how this sort of "buff up your unit" style of card is done much better. They are more interactive for the opponent, since they can respond to the cast and the equip ability. Its more fun for you because if you get blown out, atleast the equip is still on the board.

    • @JimmyR42
      @JimmyR42 6 месяцев назад

      Ah yes, the very interactive meta of embercleave... jokes aside, the "pure" aura deck with a single creature on the board is unlikely to come back with the amount of sacrifice effects that are now available, which also bypasses totem armor. But as standard has shown, wotc isn't limiting auras for limited, ossification and that +2/trample draw on death aura are two good examples of that. With the emergence of enchantment creatures you get a more consistent board presence than what classical bogle decks which means you need to mulligan much less because you have more viable openers than looking for 1 or 2 specific creatures.
      There's always going to be a tradeoff between power spike and consistency, assuming good card design in the first place, so "fixing" the bogle mulligan problem is only going to happen with a stronger card that does the same thing or with a different strategy, more reliable, but less explosive. But if you trade too much of that explosiveness, others will have time to setup their plan or deal with yours.
      tl;dr : Bogle having built in protection simply means he's going to remain relevant based on how strong attaching effects are in green and blue. Auras, Equips, counters, there's a bunch of ways to exploit bogle's hexproof and since he's a 1 drop, he's always going to be around as a great deck building check, sweeping anyone who cuts corners and can't deal with hexproof. Pro Tour material? unlikely given the wide card pool of modern, but still a sidedeck check even there. LGS champion? just as likely as any other competitive decks.

    Great overview of the deck! Surprised you didn't talk about its fall from grace in Pauper - while it still puts up the occasional 5-0 league and it's not in as dire a place as other formats, the rise of Tithing Blade decks and people putting in enchantment hate for Glitters Affinity has put a serious dampener on its effectiveness.

      Thank you! For this video, I talked a lot based on my personal experiences with the deck which were in Modern, and because of that, I realized there was a lack of research into Pauper Bogles. I plan on doing more research for these in the future, especially since I will be talking about decks I did not personally play!

    I think Bogles suffer major problems like other "powercrept out" deck(ie Tribal decks), which is Reddit/Twitter constant meming about it and down playing the deck without really playing the deck.
    Just accept your deck cant beat everything and have fun. You can be successful with any decks with good player skill and sideboard plan

    The reason why that bogle deck lost to Reid, beside the rng, is that he isn't running canopy cover and kor spiritdancer. Paw is great but doesn't get you lands, which are usually short in a low curve deck like Auras. The turn 3-4 bogle is a much different beast when you hit your land drops and have 7 mana for turn 3 and 4 instead of 4 because you're stuck on 2 lands. Paw is faster than kor due to the cheating of the aura, but I don't think cutting the most snowbally creature in the deck is a good move for a deck who's primary strategy is snowballing. Kor+Canopy is a lot more threatening than a bogle. Also, Ossification and Calix can recur a removal each turn. There's plenty of ways for the bogle decks to evolve and the best thing about them is that they are much cheaper than other meta decks while still packing pro tour level punches.
