I highly doubt they bought MGM because they wanted Bond. Amazon Originals are exceptional but lacking in prestige and what's the point of having trillions of dollars if you can't buy prestige?

AFAIR part of the rights to use Tolkien's books for movies belong to MGM, so I guess Amazon wanted these rights - badly :D
