If the opponent crouch blocked, they would have blocked the lower hitbox, which was quite minus. Christian could have blocked low and then mashed out, but don't tell him I said that. That being said, Botan was the only character in the cast whose crouching hurtbox was still tall enough to get hit by the upper hitbox of 5M. So she had a really bad matchup against Suisei because she was the only one who could actually get stuck in the infinite blockstring. Thankfully Suisei's 5M got changed to always be -2 regardless of hitbox we're good now.
