  • If you consider the cost of renting a stump grinder, safety gear and all other tools needed for this kind of project, along with time spent, you're better off hiring a stump grinding business to come and do the job right the first time.Renting a stump grinder can be a good option if you’re comfortable with operating machinery and have some DIY skills. Stump grinders are powerful tools that can quickly grind a stump down to below ground level. Rental costs vary, but you can generally expect to pay around $150 to $400 per day, depending on the size of the machine.

    I've rolled up on many jobs with my lil 252 and I tell them price then they ask when I can do it. I tell them right now and the customer is shocked lol. They cant believe that I was gonna take care of them right then and there. They always jump right on it. It's always a great idea to take your grinder with you if you are ready to work right then. Customers feel like they are a priority and they will be happy.

    I like your videos . I started making a few but I actually use your videos as a reference on how I need to improve. Nice videos.

    Good video and points. Learned alot from your videos. I bought an older 252 a couple months ago and have been grinding as a side gig since my main job is 3rd shift. Really enjoy the work. Lots and lots of competition in our area though so jobs are scarce but have a blast when I get some lined up. First job was x25 30"+ Beech stumps....that was a workout. Lol. Good pay though. Keep up the good work, look forward to watching your videos. Dan

    My advice is, if you can afford it , is to rent a rayco just like in the video. I did twenty years in the parks service and used a machine just like yours. It was always a blast driving around destroying stumps.

    Thanks for the video.
    Quick question- if you offer to do it on the spot how do you handle the risk of underground utilities?

    I would have to disagree regarding at least one point. even if your stump grinder is paid for you still have additional costs other than teeth and gas. you need to be saving up for a replacement stump grinder. if you're not setting aside money for a replacement machine then you will eventually go bankrupt.

      @ChrissStumpGrinding  9 месяцев назад

      @penguinistas, I just thought everybody did that. These machine rattle and shack and under pressure so much you have to set aside some money for repairs. Thanks for watching!

    I would probably charge $375 here in NY. I really need to buy a grinder. I only do jobs when and if I can stack enough, making it worth renting.

      @hilldweller8610, you are doing it the smart way doing it like that. Just line up a lot of jobs at once to make it worth it. Thanks for watching!!! Keep grinding

    Been grinding for a long time now. There is hardly any work because everybody has bought a stump grinder now thinking it’s the next best thing probably because of videos like this. Good luck to all.

    $350 to rent for the day? That's too much...unless they are giving one as big as yours.

    Hi Chris, I wanted to ask you, I have to quote a 20-stumps grinding job here in Avon, Connecticut a Richie section of Ct. what would a ballpark quote be? thanks joe PS just starting out.

    • @ChrissStumpGrinding
      @ChrissStumpGrinding  Месяц назад

      Joe, it all depends on the sizes of the stumps and locations. I would not have a clue without more info. If it's a big job I price for the whole day and not for each stump. You price yourself out of a job really quick doing that way. Thanks for watching!!! Keep grinding!

    I would think this is a job for a huge excavator and a dump truck. (with a thumb on it's bucket) The stump is already broken away from it's root system. Ron W4BIN

      @ChrissStumpGrinding  9 месяцев назад +1

      @W4BIN, it's really not in this case. If you pay someone it to dig it out it cost more. Plus, you have to fill the hole with dirt. Thanks for watching!!!

    I realize not everyone can,
    ... but for me, I'd have just taken a chainsaw and a few Saturday hours to be rid of that stump, rather than pay someone to do it.
    The thing is, there are people who are completely capable, but just won't do such things in their own property,
    There are people who will pay a company to come pick up their own dog's poop from their yard, rather than do it themselves 🤷
    But, these are the best sort of people when you make your living off doing what they don't want to or can't.
