I like episode 1 more after I saw the making of. they used a lot of pratical stuff. by episode 3, a lot of the crew left and there was a lot of new people doing 3d garbage.
Dimitri Bitu I think from the PT, Episode 1 looks the best. But I enjoy Episode 3 a little bit More. Oft course the whole PT sucks (in my opinion) compared to the OT
oh. my. God. John Knoll is THE Jedi Master of VFX. That digital set was beyond amazing, I really admire that man, he deserves more credit for all the work he's done for Star Wars and visual effects in general since the prequels
ILM has been and still is the best VFX house in the Industry, holy hell this stuff is amazing. Fun fact: The guy narrating most of this panel created photoshop.
Hearing this guy talk about George's creative process kind of upsets me, it makes me feel like Star Wars just isn't the same anymore because it's not coming from George's mind and vision, there's no recreating the mind of the maker himself...
George is on the creative team for Star Wars. He isn't obviously the one that calls the shots anymore but he definitely has an input on designs and stuff.
Here's the thing: George was brilliant but he was a "shopper." He knew what he wanted AFTER he saw it. He was dependent on the people around him for the raw ideas. And this would be fine, except, in his old age, George eliminated anyone who challenged him on creative grounds. Interviews with the cast of the prequels reveal they weren't allowed to read the complete scripts even days into filming, and you couldn't ask him "why," he didn't want to explain anything to you. He refused to show anyone the scripts as he was writing them, definitely didn't solicit feedback, and wouldn't even tell actors the full context of what they were saying. On one hand, I can understand him wanting complete control of his own project. He's a famous rebel who hated the studio system and wanted total autonomy. But when Star Wars became more about HIM then about the world, he nearly sank his legacy. He needed to either open the film world back up and invite people to criticize him again, or he needed to step away. His heirs were ready to fly on their own. He saved Star Wars.
This was really cool watching! I have spent a lot of time looking at Star Wars Bonus Content from the DVD's/Blue Ray's over the years. I never realized how practical Phantom Menace was. I also really like they way they were able to make the deathstar in rouge one look like a model.
And suddenly Lopez has his house broken into and the Death Star is stolen Not the plans, but the _entire Death Star_ "What do you mean you _lost the Death Star?!_ That thing wasn't even fully paid off yet!"
I know right? As a SW fan, it's fun to go outside the series lore & behind the scenes creation and learn so much about how the crew at ILM create the iconic visual effects for recent films and old and new SW films. Especially with John Knoll (since John has been booth at the start of SW and subjectively ((There are prequel fans so i use that term with no negative connotation)) when George held account for the backstory to the series, showing up a lot in the Behind the Scenes stuff). All honesty, having Dennis Muren would of been even better but this was plenty enough.
Anuran Dev Oh man, that would be awesome. I mean this years celebration got like some small role actors with HUGE influences or legacies in other formats of the series, so having a segment with Joe & Muren would be like....awesome to say the least. Curious, out of all the films Joe's done after A New Hope, which is your favorite he's worked on? Me i'm kind of going the generic route, but Jurassic Park & all 3 LOTR films were like AMAZING with his involvement.
Nice picture of Norman Reynolds visiting the Episode VII set at 57:17. Good to see him looking so well. He worked on all the Indiana Jones movies too. (All three of them) :)
This was easily the best panel of 2016 Celebration. So much more interesting than anything else. I did like the "sizzle" Rogue One reel and the Rebels trailer but as far as "was the full panel amazing?" - this one plus the droid panel. Oh yeah!
what's wrong with you man? It was uploaded yesterday at this very same Star Wars channel. Instead of telling you everything in 1 minute 15 sec, it shows you bits and pieces of behind the scenes which have never been shown before.
I think in Legends, the difference between the 3 ft and 8 ft (ANH and ESB) Star Destroyers is that the 3 ft (ANH) is the Imperator Class I Star Destroyer and the 8 ft is the Imperator Class II Star Destroyer. Easiest to tell is the top of the bridge tower between the shields.

Anyone know what happened to the "making of rogue one" panel this year? I saw some stuff about it at the start of celebration, but didn´t hear anything else about it after that.
Not sure I like that "new" Stormtrooper helmet. Not because it's pristine and has all those sharp edges, but there's something about the face and lower jaw that doesn't look right. So yeah, neat, but weird. Wonder if they went the EFX route and made the jaw a separate piece. Although the teeth are clearly separate and attached from the inside.
21:56 But Ralph McQuarrie didn't make that model, it was Colin Cantwell. In fact, Cantwell made those models first, and McQuarrie based his paintings on Cantwell's models.
***** right, because I was talking about the one they exclusively shown at the Rogue One panel that a small part of it has been leaked but they haven't released it online yet
Uhh. The original storm trooper helmet looks much better. Maybe because it's been burned into my brain since I was a kid but it just looks "right". They should have just copied it.
I hope sou Disney will liquidate *legends* nonadecuate status of all SWGalaxy, and not toch all another from its. Second-Disney *must* not broke this Stories awcors
Amazing professionals, hat off to you, sirs, but I'm still waiting for a Kathleen Kennedy panel...the one that will never happen, the one in which she would try to explain to the SW fans crowds why they've rehashed Episode IV, why Ars Gratia Artis (art for art's sake) is a forgotten concept and why female protagonists are the new Disney trend (I could live with the new SW trilogy focused on Rey, but not with every singular story in that universe). I'm not misogynistic, but wars were and are fought mainly by by men since the beginning of history. Obviously, women helped them a lot in different roles, but to have two consecutive imaginary war movies based on their exploits seems a bit over the edge, unless your executive producer is a female too.
22:48 _"The limitations that were given actually improves the look of the films."_ Absolutely. With the OT Lucas had lots of limitations, while with the PT, he could just throw in whatever he felt like.
This is awesome. By far my favourite panel I've seen yet. Outstanding work and attention to detail.
I was in heaven with this panel. Fascinating from start to finish.
me too, I just LOVE this stuff
As someone who has watched the extras on DVDs since childhood, this Archaeology Panel by LucasFilm was fantastic!
The movie magic behind star wars is incredible to see. Thanks for showing the secrets for us to enjoy :)
This makes me appreciate the prequels waaay more.
why?
Because human have yet to master space travel
I like episode 1 more after I saw the making of. they used a lot of pratical stuff. by episode 3, a lot of the crew left and there was a lot of new people doing 3d garbage.
Dimitri Bitu I think from the PT, Episode 1 looks the best. But I enjoy Episode 3 a little bit More. Oft course the whole PT sucks (in my opinion) compared to the OT
and even the actors were often done in CGI
This is EXACTLY what I love of Star Wars! More of this please!
I love these three guys they have done a good job on the saga!
i love miniature ships! They always hold up better than cg ones
oh. my. God. John Knoll is THE Jedi Master of VFX. That digital set was beyond amazing, I really admire that man, he deserves more credit for all the work he's done for Star Wars and visual effects in general since the prequels
I love the attention to detail that's going into Rogue One- can't wait to see it!
A real highlight for me from the livestream was this panel! Thank you for spotlighting the amazing creatives at ILM!
I sincerely hope they have another archaeology panel on this year's celebration! This was awesome
That moment when you relies more cgi is used in TFA than the Prequels
Ironic.
The level of detail is astounding!
ILM has been and still is the best VFX house in the Industry, holy hell this stuff is amazing.
Fun fact: The guy narrating most of this panel created photoshop.
they don't pay their staff well tho. but they look after them at least...
I will always be on the edge of my seat during that X-wing scene in Force Awakens. And those Trade Federation ships are some of my favorite models
This was brilliant! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Hearing this guy talk about George's creative process kind of upsets me, it makes me feel like Star Wars just isn't the same anymore because it's not coming from George's mind and vision, there's no recreating the mind of the maker himself...
I think it's pretty undeniable that Star Wars at its core is George Lucas
Thank the maker
George is on the creative team for Star Wars. He isn't obviously the one that calls the shots anymore but he definitely has an input on designs and stuff.
Here's the thing: George was brilliant but he was a "shopper." He knew what he wanted AFTER he saw it. He was dependent on the people around him for the raw ideas.

This panel is amazing, hearing John Knoll, inventor of Photoshop talk about UV unwrapping and rendering is really cool!
That's why I love these guys and Star Wars!!!
And suddenly Lopez has his house broken into and the Death Star is stolen
Not the plans, but the _entire Death Star_
"What do you mean you _lost the Death Star?!_ That thing wasn't even fully paid off yet!"
The Doctor They lose some treasures of original, that what saved, they have done Reincarnation. Its was good, Projects normal, and good
Very cool panel.
dude, i wish I was able to watch this when it came out!! better late than never!!
I really enjoyed this panel, it was the only one I could get into
No video? That's a shame. Watching Knoll talk is always a great thing.
I know right? All honesty, having Dennis Muren would of been even better but this was plenty enough.
CathedralWater Dennis Muren is such a great guy. There needs to be a talk segment of Muren and Joe Letteri in SIGGRAPH or some other occassion!
I knew there was fairly common use of it but I never realized how much of EP1's shots were with miniatures, that's awesome.
Nice picture of Norman Reynolds visiting the Episode VII set at 57:17. Good to see him looking so well. He worked on all the Indiana Jones movies too. (All three of them) :)

This is brilliant, fascinating stuff. Great panel
POOOOOOST THE TRAILER PLEEEASE
its out
GREAT VIDEO, THANK YOU!!!
WE WANT THE TRAILER!!!
true man
what's wrong with you man? It was uploaded yesterday at this very same Star Wars channel. Instead of telling you everything in 1 minute 15 sec, it shows you bits and pieces of behind the scenes which have never been shown before.
+Strawberryknight That's not a Trailer bro
It's online already saw it
That's the trailer, the real second trailer was shown only to the people who attended.
This is absolutely fascinating! Wow!
I just played the Inception soundtrack (Mind Heist) in the background and it actually sounded pretty freaking good!
The response at the one hour mark is actually super interesting.
Trailer please!!
you're missing the point
No
I'm still waiting for that trailer:(
hey a youtube i know

Poe Dameron escaping the oscillator on Starkiller Base = AWESOME
33:20 Q-Tips!!! My brain just exploded. FYI... John and Thomas Knoll created (invented) Photoshop in their 20's. They sold it to Adobe.
AWESOME!!
29:45 in a way, stop motion and miniature models are more real than cgi, because they ARE real physical, tangible props.
ok? I'm not trying to argue at all. Your point is as valid as mine.
At first I was disappointed with no Rogue One trailer. This Star Wars Archaeology Panel was great. I can wait a bit longer.
Well said! This panel and the droid panel was the thing I love!
Thanks. Can't wait. It's not easy making a starwars film.
This is awesome!!!!
Polish up that model kit library and you could have a fun little starship creator game.
Where is this Rogue One trailer?
Up me arse
+Darth Vader only you could be so bold.
+Darth Vader only you could be so bold.
It was only a minute or so long. The 3 minute one was the bts reel.
Everyone will get to see it, except for you.
Anyone know what happened to the "making of rogue one" panel this year? I saw some stuff about it at the start of celebration, but didn´t hear anything else about it after that.
29:11 Grant Imahara!!
Nice video. thanks.
I wonder if there will be a clever explanation to why the plans that rebels get is not the same as to the actual build of the Death Star
in Rogue One that is
2:07 Where can I download this as a VR App/file for my VR glasses?
Maybe there was just a mis-communication (by ABC, Disney, or whoever) and they never intended to release the trailer yesterday.
I feel cheated
No, the one that ABC was talking about was the 3 minute long bts reel.
+budmeister I know. That's why I said there could have been a mis-communication, where news sites thought they meant an "actual" trailer, not the BTS.
everyone there was a trailer released, but it was only for the people at celebration hopefully it'll be up soon
+Cary Qian
It had vader at the end!!!!!!!
I need it now!!!!!!!
Excellent
This is so interesting!
Where's the Rogue One panel, where is Carrie's interview, where us Day 1?
I miss Pod-Racing..
I got a notification and thought this is the new trailer.. Ugh..
its is amazing
I just noticed that maz has her own statue on her castle lol XD
Not sure I like that "new" Stormtrooper helmet. Not because it's pristine and has all those sharp edges, but there's something about the face and lower jaw that doesn't look right. So yeah, neat, but weird.
Wonder if they went the EFX route and made the jaw a separate piece. Although the teeth are clearly separate and attached from the inside.
Notifications squad!
a lot of nerdgasms here.
he is doing fan made things but with lucasarts inside knowledge :)
this was dope
21:56 But Ralph McQuarrie didn't make that model, it was Colin Cantwell. In fact, Cantwell made those models first, and McQuarrie based his paintings on Cantwell's models.
they were hired around the same time; November 1974. but Joe Johnston re-designed it later 22:26 not McQ
Trailer!!!!
"Nay-Boo" he says 😂
Do they use the Unreal Engine? oO I'm pretty sure it is the UE-Kit.
So that means, thousands of year later and many galaxies away, James Bond is descended from a Skywalker?
put the rouge one trailer
Star WARS!!!
Has anyone ever combined Matte Painting and Pepper's ghost?
muito bom!!!
Just noticed that the Starkiller Base has guard rails. Family Guy influence there?
Where is the hour long mark hamill panel?
Kevin have such an imperial accent :P
27:00 prequels were not all cg
What is the software they used? :)
star wars最高!
Dat trailer though
word
Who cares when you have panels like this?! This is real Star Wars fandom fodder. Plus the RO "sizzle" click was way better than a trailer.
Is Doug chiang the VP of Lucasfilm now? If yes then great!
Nope!
rogue one trailer rogue one trailer rogue one trailer
They already showed it. It was the BTS celebration reel.
***** no that was the reel, at the celebration they shown off an actual trailer that hasn't been relw asked on the internet yet
Scine Bamm The reel is the 3 minute trailer that ABC said they were going to play. That's what I meant.
***** right, because I was talking about the one they exclusively shown at the Rogue One panel that a small part of it has been leaked but they haven't released it online yet
Scine Bamm unfortunately, i heard that one is just over a minute long.
Where's the trailer?

Why the LOL?
+Rowan Strang just laughing like a kid realising he's got what he wanted like a laugh where you are happy
Uhh. The original storm trooper helmet looks much better. Maybe because it's been burned into my brain since I was a kid but it just looks "right". They should have just copied it.

Kevin Jenkins really doesn't like talking much, does he?
