- Yesterday I made my last flight with this beautiful #ASK13 glider. I learned flying with the "Bua´le" when I was 14 years old and even made my first solo flights with it. My former gliding club MBB SG Augsburg e.V. decided to sell it because they got a newer doubleseater #glider for training flights. So one last time I took place in the "Bua´le" before it is sold. I fly a Grumman traveler, the canopy slides open and you can fly open cockpit, it’s the coolest thing ever

Fantastic. Those winch launches look like so much fun. I think my favorite part is at 1:34 when it just goes dead quiet. Gives a real sense of movement at that moment.

Despite my fear of heights I did aerobatics with a pilot friend in what I think was a Cessna aerobat. The feeling was indescribable ,while I was up it was scary happy but can't wait to get down. When we landed I just wanted to go back up.
This video bought back all those emotions.
Great stuff! Brings back memories! I spent many years instructing on this beautiful trusty work horse. But only with the bubble canopy, never in an open cockpit. The challenge was always to out climb the K-8’s with the 13 in thermals but you had to be really on top of the game. With a good K-8 pilot there was no chance of winning but sometimes I did....👍

That was cool, Haven't seen a glider like that with open cockpit. I'm thinking of doing this as a step up from hang gliding. It's a lateral step really I guess. Both have their charms.

Usually I´m flying the glider on my own, but with the topless canopy it is more fun to enjoy the ride than flying ;)

Hello there. Yeeears ago I got my license thanks to a K13. Those old birds are so fun to fly and this video brought back good memories.

Die K13 ist schon cool . Wenn während des Flugbetriebes der Regen einsetzte, fielen die Hochleistungssegeler buchstäblich vom Himmel . Und der Fluglehrer ritt mit mir in der K13 einfach den Regen ab . Er sagte zu mir , dass dieses Flugzeug mit nassen Flügeln in der Leistung nur wenig abfällt im Gegensatz zu den Wettbewerbssegelern mit ihren Laminarprofielen . Ich konnte dieses Muster immer feiern . Auch ihre kleine einsitzige Schwester ,die K8 . Die konnte die schwächste Thermik nutzen . Klar , Wettbewerbe kann man damit nicht gewinnen . Für Lustflüge sind sie aber immer gut .

How cool is this? Just the other day, I asked a friend who owns a glider if there were any such thing as an open cockpit glider, because the would be the ultimate experience! And here it is!
At 2:50 you can see it looks like they removed the canopy from a standard model. See the lip there on the edge where it would fit in.

I have never flown a ASK-13 . Now it's on my list.
It's probably the best two seater trainer. I've done soaring flights in them. Do it while you can as they are dying out.
Not so easy to find an open cockpit one though. Just for fun it is absolutely fantastic to fly.

When I was a kid my dad took me up in an open cockpit glider. We sailed over Northampton and it was sheer magic! Then he got a friend to take me up in his Tiger Moth! That's the only time I have ever been proper flying!
