Thank you for posting ..I was the youngest member of the London Pirchim Choir at the time which I was honoured to join at the age of five (around 1970)....I went on to have a successful career as a stage and screen actor..Now over fifty years later I remember all the lyrics (even if I still don't understand them) and haunting melodies as though it were yesterday...Thank you Yigal!
20 year old listener here. First time hearing some of these Yigal classics and I've been infatuated with the music ever since. Listening on repeat and picking apart the beautiful harmonies. Thoroughly impressed they all remember their parts from their childhood and also believe their matured voices have vastly improved their sound together. Kol Hakavod to all participants.

Howard Gaventa: I sang on the 1st record and have the privilege of singing Ki Heim Chayenu with Nicky Borgenicht and singing Hamavdil with Doodi Rosenberg. My memories of over 50 years ago are still vivid. Going to Stamford hill with my father every Sunday for choir practice, which my father loved listening to. Yigal coming to our house with a cassette tape of him teaching me how to say yoim not yom. My mum Rica buying many records to give to all her friends. My sister Tina singing all the songs at home with my mum. I have taught all my children the songs from that record, and we sing yevonim every Chanukah together. Yigal brought the choir to norrice lea to sing at my barmitzvahs party. We sang the songs at my boys barmitzvahs. Tina, my brother David and I sang the songs with my mum the day before she passed away in 2020. So yigal has been a great influence in our family's life for all these years.
Wow Howard! Wonderful memories. How typical of your mother, everyone’s dear Auntie Rica, to give these records. She was so full of love of people and of Yiddishkeit and generosity was her trademark. We have missed her now for nearly 2 years and your father Norman for50
50 years to short...yigal calek and the London school of jewish song run 24/6 in my house!!my grandchildren sing every song!!!nothing comes close!!!! Your music changed the Yiddish world music!!!! IYH you shall merit to greet Mashiach Tzidkeinu in your days!!!!!
Wow I couldn't put it down. What memories. Yigal conducting exactly as I remember. I remember till this day when we were recording and I felt my voice was breaking. I tearfully and dramatically told Yigal that I "resign" and he would not hear of it and made me sing... 45+ years later I have not forgotten. Yigal Bezrat Hashem I wish you Ad 120, in good health and spirit. Yonatan (ex Jonny) Lehman.
That's incredible. You were so lucky to be part of this group. The music is beautiful, timeless, to be cherished. I grew up on this even though I was born in the mid-80s.
Looking for a different pirchei song to listen to at work and came across this. Now I'm tearing up at my desk because of all the nostalgia. Such beautiful music that I still sing all these songs. Thank you!
I got the London boys choir RECORD for my Bat Mitzvah in 1975 and those songs with the beautiful and pure voices are still the only way I know these songs! hearing them as grown ups singing in the same harmony is so moving. thank you!
I used to work for him 25 years ago. Boris, from Turkiye. I hope someone will send my regards to him. Used to call him George, Vivaldi. My mentor for life. Cant thank enough

What a beautiful heartwarming get together. Yigal’s songs are ageless and priceless. True authentic Jewish tunes sung with heart and emotion. May yigal and all his former choir together with klal Yisroel be zoche to sing the songs of harmony that welcome and usher in Moshiach tzidkeinu bekorov.
Thank you Pini! I just read about Yigal Calek ז"ל in the Jewish Tribune and what memories this video brought back of practicing with the Pirchim choir (just a couple of us boys from Stamford Hill joined the Golders Green/Hendon crowd). And what an absolutely tremendous finish to the evening with אני מאמין! Though, as a boy in 1970, I knew Yigal as a young man, I'll remember him as portrayed in your video, leading his tisch singing Hashem's and Israel's praises with gusto. Long life to us all.
Omg it already happened that I was trying to find out how yigal is these days, but didn't succeed finding him, I was beyond thrilled and emotional to see this beautiful heartwarming reunion!!! It's beyond words how nostalgic this is and thanx for sharing with the world for the ones who grew up with this there are no words!!!!! Cant wait to show it to my elderly mother who is b'h in the 90's she will love it!! Yigal still brings joy to this day to see him lead just like 50 yrs ago. Wishing him best of health till 120 yrs !!!!!!
Nostalgia. Absolutely brilliant!! Thanks so much for sharing, I've been listening to it all afternoon. (Would love them to get together again and sing all the old songs!). Wishing Yigal good health ad 120.
When Jewish music was 'Jewish' and was 'music.' This is so moving to watch. It's a shame Yigal didn't produce more than six albums. [There actually was another album back in the day called "the Return of the London School of Jewish Song," with great songs, like "Ha'am," "Eliyahu HaNavi," "Kol Mevaser," etc, but, as I understand it, not many copies were produced and it's very hard to find. I'd be very grateful if someone would upload it!] No subsequent choirs hold a candle to the London School as far as quality, each song a veritable masterpiece of talent and authentic Jewish feeling. The intricate harmonies and creative arrangements of these eternal songs are also remarkable. Reb Yigal, may you merit a refuah sheleimah in the zechus of all ruchniusdike pleasure you have given us for all these many years. A grateful fan, Lakewood, NJ

Wow what an eloquent and articulate comment that really sums up the TRUTH about real Jewish music!!! Yes, Yigal's stuff is truly the best there is....Such a shame today's generation is so misguided.
@@mostlymusicdownloadservice4913 Thanks for the (eloquent) compliment! In total, I believe there were actually 8 "London School of Jewish Song" albums produced and [for the most part] masterfully composed by Yigal (including the lost one I referenced in my comment above), the first of which is "Ma Navu" (1970), and the last of which is "Mama" (1997). In addition, Yigal conducted the (somewhat difficult to find) Pirchei Yerushalyim album, as well as (correct me if I'm wrong) "the New York School of Jewish Song" in the late 70's, early 80's (3 albums; not sure of he conducted all 3 of those). Finally, the choir's electrifying reappearance at Hasc 4 is equally unforgettable. All the best to all the best!
Wow. There are no words that share my emotions. This is the pure music we grew up with Amazing to see Yigal with the boys of a few years ago. Just beautiful. May you all blessed with arichas yomim vishonim tovos ad bias goel
Thank you so much for this great reunion! It brightened my day! What a Kiddush HaShem to hear again so great music that do so much to our Neshama! Thank you! Timeless!
Really heartwarming, I had the zechus to daven WITH reb yigal in my childhood and he always was heard giving the birkas Kohanim with real feeling. He should be gezunt ad 120.
Watch Yigal at 51:30. That movement is unique to Yigal as a conductor. The shoulder movement and palms upwards. Conductors generally conduct with palms down, or tending downwards. Yigal will often have his palms upwards. Think of the cover of the Mah Novu album. It gives a whole different feeling to the choir.
My whole childhood 🧡❤️💛 I even had to sing that solo in French in our girls, I think I still know it!! Un soir d’ete… lol And years later my son Yoni was in the choir when they briefly came back in the 90s…we went to New York on tour and I had to find him a bright green shirt! 😂💚 Refua Shelema Reb Yigal 🙌🏻 What beautiful memories, thank you Freidi and Daniel kol hakavod for making this happen!
👆This precious Pirchei Reunion with Yigal Calek- Watching Zaidy’s coming together to sing the same songs 50 yr later ….it evokes so much emotion. (I’m glad I don’t cry for my ears, so I can at least hear the songs.) Growing up in the 60’s we lived, we sang and we loved Yigal Calek’s masterpieces!! We anxiously awaited every next release. I still remember the excitement when my father said he picked up the new release. Ripping open the plastic packaging. The smell of the new record. Seeing the choir grow up to become erliche Zaidys of today…is also quite an emotional moment... These songs anchor me right back to the 70’s. Watching this today….made me think how much klal yisroel has accomplished in the past 50 years - how we picked ourselves up from the ashes and rebuilt a new Jewish world- All the celebrations and tragedies we've lived through & experienced together, as a real family…..This reminds me, no matter what color Yarmulka or what size…. we as Yidden are a family- share the same memories, the same goals. Klal Yisroel are all traveling together as brothers and sisters, sticking together, in this one huge charter bus journeying through golus. Let’s all Daven that on Zos Chanuka that this Charter Bus picks up epic speed, so we can finally arrive at our destination- the Geulah haShlaima!!
Wow! It’s incredible that after 50 years so many of them still remember their original harmonies. Thanks so much for videoing this (with good immersive sound!) makes me wish I was around when all these ppl were young. Thanks for preserving this amazing reunion!
that is the most heartwarming video I have watched lately. so happy to see Yigal is getting better. I grew up on your songs, brought so much good to my life! thank you.
This brought me back to my childhood 50 years ago - just missing Yossi Sonnenblick :). Yigal Calek enriched our generation with true Yiddishe niggunim, with depth, emotion, and off-the-charts talent. How moving to see this reunion, amazing to see Yigal bli ayin hora still vibrant - it made me cry. Yigal, klal Yisroel is indebted to you, 'der zchus zohl dir baishtayn' many more years of gezunt!
@@jekyljacobson Whoops you are 100% correct, I confused my star soloists when I closed my eyes conjuring up the high part of Ma Navu :)...Thank you for the correction. Its incredible how my kids, who grew up with albums that featured way more sophisticated musical arrangements and sound engineering still LOVE the London albums. Its a testimony to their timeless quality and appeal.
This is fab - such a great sound in an informal setting, thanks to everyone still knowing their well worked out harmonies, and of course the richness of the nigunnim. Far superior a sound to many a recording (over)produced in a studio.
we can never forget these harmonies, he drilled them into us -- we went through hours and hours of rehearsals. We can sing these harmonies in our sleep.
They have to do this again. I'd love to see and hear some of the children or grandchildren of choir members join in the singing so we hear the sweet voices we remember so well. Imagine that, a boys choir and no scandals G-d forbid! Yigal Calek has enriched our lives may he be blessed with long life and good health!
I know this msg sound like pie in the sky talk but a reunion performance or even album is very much desired. This has left us all with a taste for more. Please, please, please, someone push for this to happen.
How exciting! What a trip! Every time I watch I feel I was (or should have been) sitting there and sing and harmonizing too (even though I wasn't in the choir)! Good thing brother Yossi (who was in the choir) was there 😘 Timeless songs that have been part of our singing and davening repertoire for decades. A reminder how Yigal עמו"ש is up there with R' Shlomo and R' BZ Shenker as one of the forefathers of modern Jewish music!
Thank you so much for sharing this. You can hear the joy in the room. These are The songs of my youth. Brings me back to sitting in the living room listening to their music. @27:40 Od Yizkor Lonu. Reminds us just how good they were and the guys still sing well together.
I saw this a few days ago and then listened to all the Pirchei videos and understand why Calek and his kids are so unique. Nothing inUSA compares. To put him in the same boat as S.C. is almost a chilul-hashedm. Calek is still inimitable.
Hello Mr Dovid! this is your friend from Argenitna! Itzi Plotka (your roomate in Kfar Chasidim Yeshiva!) very nice to see you again! my best regards and Wishes!
What an incredible treat. This brings me back to my living room 50 years ago listening to the records on repeat. And those Brooklyn college concerts! Life didn’t get better :). Hashem should grant him 120 happy and healthy years !
Thanks so much for posting this video. Absolutely beautiful! I've been letting it play in the background on my office computer for the past few days while I work, and I love it. It's also amazing to finally learn the origin of so many heartfelt songs I remember from sleep-away camp in the mid-1980's! (We didn't have these records in my childhood home.) Yasher Koach!
Wonderful memories indeed from this recording. I am fortunate though to Daven in Raleigh Close nowadays though with your son Rabbi Zvi Portnoy who continues your great musical tradition

Wow. There are no words that share my emotions. This is the pure music we grew up with Amazing to see Yigal with the boys of a few years ago. Just beautiful. May you all blessed with arichas yomim vishonim tovos ad bias goel
Thank you. Sunday afternoons singing in the choir were amazing. This brings some of that to life. wonderful!
Thank you so much for this great reunion!
It brightened my day!
What a Kiddush HaShem to hear again so great music that do so much to our Neshama!
Thank you!
Timeless!
Thanks for sharing, my family grow up with his music, such great memories.
R’ Pinny thanks so much for this video. Watched/listened to it 3 times already. Can’t get enough of it. They were the best.
Wow wow
I’m in a different world every time I watch this
His songs was so pure
What a legend
Really heartwarming, I had the zechus to daven WITH reb yigal in my childhood and he always was heard giving the birkas Kohanim with real feeling. He should be gezunt ad 120.
Oh, I didn’t know he’s a Cohen.
There is so much love and respect here. so beautiful.
We need a reunion disc!!! Your voices are so rich and beautiful together 💕💕
My whole childhood 🧡❤️💛 I even had to sing that solo in French in our girls, I think I still know it!! Un soir d’ete… lol
And years later my son Yoni was in the choir when they briefly came back in the 90s…we went to New York on tour and I had to find him a bright green shirt! 😂💚
Refua Shelema Reb Yigal 🙌🏻 What beautiful memories, thank you Freidi and Daniel kol hakavod for making this happen!
Simply cannot stop watching this video. Thank you for sharing, Rav Dunner!
Me neither! on a virtual continuous loop
From NY; beautiful reunión; Shalom everyone!!
Just incredible!! Pure joy to watch!! I was so disappointed when the video finished. Definitely need more!!
Such beautiful classic songs! Such a joy hearing them live as if they were recorded yesterday ❤️❤️
👆This precious Pirchei Reunion with Yigal Calek- Watching Zaidy’s coming together to sing the same songs 50 yr later ….it evokes so much emotion.
(I’m glad I don’t cry for my ears, so I can at least hear the songs.)
Growing up in the 60’s we lived, we sang and we loved Yigal Calek’s masterpieces!!
Watching this today….made me think how much klal yisroel has accomplished in the past 50 years -
how we picked ourselves up from the ashes and rebuilt a new Jewish world-
All the celebrations and tragedies we've lived through & experienced together, as a real family…..This reminds me, no matter what color Yarmulka or what size….
we as Yidden are a family- share the same memories, the same goals.
Beautifully said!
נכון מאוד
כל מילה!
Such eloquence. Thank you.
Wow! It’s incredible that after 50 years so many of them still remember their original harmonies. Thanks so much for videoing this (with good immersive sound!) makes me wish I was around when all these ppl were young. Thanks for preserving this amazing reunion!
Such beautiful music - and warm childhood memories. The sounds of yesterday are still exceptional! Thanks for posting.
Grew up on these songs. Was singing along. What nostalgia! Thank you for organizing and posting
Chills. Priceless. Thank you thank you. They're so fantastic. We need a kumzitz with all of the songs.
that is the most heartwarming video I have watched lately. so happy to see Yigal is getting better. I grew up on your songs, brought so much good to my life! thank you.
I have watched this already multiple times. Thank you so much for sharing
Sonnenblick sang on earlier Pirchei Agudas Yisrael albums.
Yossi Sonnenblick was in the New York Pirchim choir.
@@ouaga2010 As I said. It was called Pirchei Agudas Yisroel. It was based in NY.
Yossi Sonnenblick was on the other side of the pond in the Agudah choir albums which preceded LSoJS by 10 years.
@@RabbiPiniDunner I bet you did!
Yes. A reunion album would be a dream come true.
If RUclips was created for this video only - it would be worth it!
I agree.
Good thing brother Yossi (who was in the choir) was there 😘
Timeless songs that have been part of our singing and davening repertoire for decades. A reminder how Yigal עמו"ש is up there with R' Shlomo and R' BZ Shenker as one of the forefathers of modern Jewish music!
Indeed. While Yossi is the guy who makes the cheesy jokes!
Wonderfull it let me to think about my father in France
He was just such a marvellous singer
But still 70 years ago

You can hear the joy in the room.
These are The songs of my youth. Brings me back to sitting in the living room listening to their music.
@27:40 Od Yizkor Lonu. Reminds us just how good they were and the guys still sing well together.

Wow! This video is precious! Will be watching this over and over! It’s! Such memories
יפה מאד ומאד מרגש . יאריך ה' ימים ותזכו כולכם לשיר בבית המקדש במהרה
I saw this a few days ago and then listened to all the Pirchei videos and understand why Calek and his kids are so unique. Nothing inUSA compares. To put him in the same boat as S.C. is almost a chilul-hashedm. Calek is still inimitable.
Pure and amazing old memories!!! Txs for Sharing!
איזה נוסטולגיה... זכרון ילדות קסומה. בריאות ואריכות ימים יגאל צליק היקר
Wow this was really nostalgic!
Thank you for sharing this special reunion with us all..
So special how lucky we are to have these beautiful melodies now part of our mesorah

What an incredible treat. This brings me back to my living room 50 years ago listening to the records on repeat. And those Brooklyn college concerts! Life didn’t get better :). Hashem should grant him 120 happy and healthy years !
Amen !!!
Brooklyn college concerts!!! So many wonderful memories
Thanks so much for posting this video.
Absolutely beautiful!
I've been letting it play in the background on my office computer for the past few days while I work, and I love it.
It's also amazing to finally learn the origin of so many heartfelt songs I remember from sleep-away camp in the mid-1980's!
(We didn't have these records in my childhood home.)
Yasher Koach!
Thank you soooo much for sharing this. Wish we were there - much love from ירושלים עיר הקודש Ruthie and Joel Portnoy
Joel, you would have had a solo, for sure!
Wonderful memories indeed from this recording. I am fortunate though to Daven in Raleigh Close nowadays though with your son Rabbi Zvi Portnoy who continues your great musical tradition
BDE Yigal!! A special musical genius soul!

I was extremely moved to see Yigal conducting the choir like it was 50 years ago!!!! I suggest next time to have the reunion on zoom so us foreigners can join in!!!! I am especially delighted that באין מליץ יושר was sung so beautifully. I make a point of singing it if I am Chazzan on ימים נוראים and very few people join in!!! We all wish Yigal a רפואה שלמה .
Indeed. How fast those 50 years have flown by. Having grown up in your fathers Shtibl Michael I miss those happy days but it’s great to reminisce with this RUclips. Great to see how Yigal still brings out the talent. Wishing Yigal will for many more years
