Personally, I never saw Savimbi as a “big halfwit, war-hungry” leader when I played this mission, I saw savimbi as an awesome character that boosted my morale when I first played the mission (first cod game btw) and save me and hudson while escaping with Woods. Definitely one of the most memorable characters for me.
Apparently the family of Savimbi did try to sue the devs or something because of how he was portrayed (because he looked dumb to them?), but I don't see what's their problem he was awesome

That Savimbi's children even sue Activision for portraying their father as a epic war hero is beyond my comprehension. Activision actually made Savimbi more known to the public now and the fanbase welcomed him into our collection of most epic characters in COD history. That with only ONE mission, damn it when did we go from this to enemy team and my team?
They claim he was portrayed as “barbaric” even though he literally lead one of the best opening missions in video game history
On god, I would never have known savimbi normally and this single mission makes me admire and wish he was a mainstay character in the story sometimes.

Fun Fact: Jonas Savimbi was a real person, who actually did fight against the MPLA in Angola. In fact, he left behind several wives and 25 children, 3 oh which went on to sue Activision for their depiction of Savimbi, claiming it was offensive.

I think it has an African element with the drums but then the trumpets sound more Latin. Which fits well because Angola was colonised by Portugal and has some Portuguese culture remaining.
