      Greeting from China! Our ancestors already wrote the advice that could help Western leaders look at the current tension between US and China in a calm and wise way, that is, "知己知彼, 百战不殆, " in the book called The Art of War. I think Prof. Wolff has such wise, but, unfortunately, he cannot do anything help his fellows but only see the thing slowly happen. Peace & Love:)

    • @mark98115
      @mark98115 Месяц назад

      Not really a miracle. They played a smart long term game. They took advantage of capitalists who had zero loyalty to the country of their residence.
      China did not build their industrial base from scratch and by themselves.
      They had western corporations do that for them.
      They also dropped communism. China is communist in name only. The better descriptor would be fascism.
      Which is also true for most of western countries. The big difference is that in China, the government is at the top and they are focused not on enriching themselves but improving their country.
      Are they perfect? No, far from it.
      However, they, as a nation, are going in the right direction. West on the other had is going the opposite way.

    The more I listen to Mearsheimer, the less I trust him, the less he appears wisdom. He has hidden agenda which is to defend and justify US hegemony
    1. The reason he defended Russia is because he wished US government had allied with Russia to gang up on China.
    2. He kept saying we are living in an anarchy world order, no major power is really given the authority to enforce law and world order. Has he totally forgotten there is an international institution called United Nations, it’s not perfect, but it’s a good base to start with if all countries work toward abiding international Democratic process of law and order, instead of unipolar hegemony making the rules and veto against the will of majority of the world. US helped created UN and now helped dismantled the legitimacy and function of UN today.
    US wants to make all the rules for others to follow, yet itself doesn’t abide by the rules and keep breaking the rules it made by itself. This is worse than dictatorship or authoritarian, this is pure mob thuggery without law and order.
    Wisdom tells us “big power comes with big responsibility”, that’s how you sustain your power with trust and credibility, which US has NONE to sustain its power except weaponizing its US dollars, fake ideologies and military might.
    If China is the threat to U.S., then U.S. is the biggest threat to world peace and humanity.

      @arnoldstrong5553 Месяц назад +2

      I disagree with your opinion somewhat.
      I have spent some time listening to him and I don't think he has hidden agendas. He seems pretty open in wanting the US to keep its supremacy.
      He has his views which are pragmatic and tries to judge the US policies by whether they are logical or illogical, smart or stupid from what he calls a realist view (in contrast to a wishful view).
      For example, he was a vocal opponent to Ukraine giving up on their nuclear arsenal (his statement) due to the fact it has Russia, a nuclear power as a neighbour and a potential enemy... That proved to be true, unfortunately.
      In the case of US-Russia-China, he views China as a competitor and Russia as a potential US ally in a hypothetical future conflict. The ship carrying that possible future has been sunk by the Ukraine conflict and now Russia and China have been joined at the hip.
      As for the UN, it is a nice idea, but it is a hostage to great powers.
      I wouldn't say Mr Maersheimer's views are consequences of his patriotism, even though i think he is a patriot, but of the realist way he views the world. He judges China or Russia in the same realistic way.
      This brings him in a difference of options in regard to China since esteemed experts like Mr Wolf for example view China as a "different animal" (and i hope they are correct) but Mr. Maersheimer is true to his "realism" and projects to China a repetition of what every world hegemon has done. Conquer, grow and focus on subverting the others who threaten their hegemony

    Great show. Regarding the talk w Sacks and Mearsheimer and their opposing views on the topic; Mearsheimer believes the US must contain China because if we don't they will do exactly what the US has and is continuing to do around the globe once it becomes a regional hegemon. Its why he calls this competition of great powers and their seeking power/security a tragedy. He doesn't believe there is another possible way this can go unlike Prof Sacks

      There’s a parallel in the topic of racism in the US, empirically speaking. Many white people believe that if black people were to be fully in power the way white people are now, that the black people would do to the white people what the white people did to them. By and large, this is not the case. Sure, there may be a few white people they would want to get back at, but not the entirety as a whole. I believe Mearsheimer would entertain such an argument that China might then act in a similar way, more benevolently, where it wouldn’t act like the US if given the opportunity to be a regional hegemon. Of course, that would depart from his realist logic and he would not agree with it wholeheartedly, but I’m sure he might conceded that it’s possible and consider it a reasonable argument that could be made. He has stated himself that realist theories tend to be right most of the time, but not all of the time (somewhere in the 60% range, if I recall him saying so at one of the lectures I heard of his on offensive realism).
      I do enjoy listening to Wolff, but I can tell he’s a bit out of his element here talking on realism, that he remarked the opposite would be “unreal” - commenting that notion was childish - which it is not, as there are three main theories when it comes to IR theory and “unreal” isn’t one of them. I was also surprised that he did not listen to the whole talk between Mearsheimer and Sachs and yet he’s still commenting so verbosely on the talk and its content.

      This is exactly what Prof Wolff said about “projecting”. I am sure similar reasonings were given to wipe the American Indians too.

    Very good, Mr. Wolfe. The Soviet Union 's military was primarily a defensive force, whereas the US Military was and is an expeditionary force, designed and intended to enforce and expand the Anglo Zionist Empire.

    ah Richard, given the dark humour in the centre of this broadcast that had me howling with laughter I see you are enjoying that time of live when you should give no f****s markedly.
    Onwards my friend. As for Mr Sachs, he is like Larry Wilkerson, a man with deeeep regrets. Who is also a man of conviction in his faith which I believe is also what has made him reject his former self and the capitalist system it served.
    We cannot fix our mistakes made in blindness and ignorance, all we can do is try to make up for them, which they both have been doing admirably.
