I am sure that you have heard the same for many a person that sits for hours watching you do your trade? I am now almost 83 and don't have the brain I had 10 years ago, but i have a wonderful time watching you use all the knowledge you have I thank you very much. I bought a Nikon F4 and it has an 80-200mm Nikon PLASTIC Zoom lens and it has a problem when trying to zoom if you put a little pressure on one side of the barrel and a slight twist and it will break loose and and work fine until retracted. is it even worth trying to find someone that will repair it? Thank you for the pleasure you give us!

The last Canon lens I worked on was a 59mm f1.9 with the later style of mount. That took me about 14 hours in total trying to get the stupid mount back together. One of your videos was the saving grace there.
And with the 50mm f1.4, same thing. All day I've been on this, and couldn't get the mount aligned properly.
I've stripped and rebuilt loads of Nikon and Pentax lenses, and never had issues like this.
The FD mount is an over engineer nightmare, so thank you for saving me numerous more hours of misery trying to get this thing repaired!

Thx - helped for me right here (Canon FD 50mm 1.8 without the front metal ring in alu optics)
Had to remove fungus and also dust - somebody before left some nice fingerprints in the back of my front lense. After probably 1hour I just finished it : )

Thanks so much for this video! I have an FL 55mm f:1.2 that had a smear on the furthest in of the rear element group, and this was close enough that I could see how to disassemble and clean the elements.

    That's some task performed.
Only x1 Len's from my observation could have been improved upon, but a Most intriguing/informative video.
Lighter Fuel certainly had the edge where cleaning concerned.

    Thanks for sharing.
I have this lens. the diaphragm does not operate regardless of the position of the silver ring, which spins freely with just a click into the ready-to-mount position.
I've seen videos or pressing two small buttons to rotate the lens axis. but on this model it seems fixed, no small buttons.

I Thanks for for your excellent video with all the background information. have just bought the FD 55 f1.2 ssc breech-lock, it arrived from Japan. It's almost immaculate and the first few test shots are promising. I am using an a7r and a6000 and having already got an adapted NFD 50 1.8 I was astonished by weight of this beast. Good job I usually carry my kit in a trolley!
Anyway "The Beast" has a couple of slight tight spots with the focus ring which I assume is the grease dried and it needs cleaning and lubricating.
Am I right thinking the f1.2 is similar to the 1.4 breech-lock you demonstrate?
    Stay healthy and thanks again!

Hi Kenneth, thanks for this video and the many others you put on RUclips. I’m about to clean the same lens here that has fungus. I’ll use hydrogen peroxide, but my question is, should the H2O2 be thoroughly cleaned off before using ISO or lighter fluid for additional cleaning? Will a combination of the two damage any coatings? Thanks in advance.

Hello mikeno I wanted to clean the optics and by accident I have made the mistake to touch the aperture ring, I put it back in place and I reassembled the lense, now the diaphragm closes when shooting on my Canon FTb, even at 1.4 it shoots like it's F16 pls help

I have this exact same Canon FD 50mm 1:1.4 chrome nose lense (S/N: 68889) and I looked at it with a flashlight, like you did on yours, and I see about the same amount of white particles. But! (and that's big but) I don't have 1- the tools you have or 2- the skills you have or 3- the patience nor the amount of courage you have. Ahah! I'll just keep using it the way it is. (Or, maybe I could send it to you and you could clean it up for me?) lol Cheers!

Hi, after disassembling the canon 50mm fd 1.4, I found that there is no long spring under the aperture ring. Is it critical ? And what are the consequences for the lens ? P.s. I don't speak English very well, I use a translator, sorry for mistakes and not accuracy.

Mike I find your videos super-interesting and helpful. I'm wondering if you've ever come across a focus ring with some play in it? It moves all the way from Infinity to close focus, but has about 7mm or so play in either direction before it engages. I feel it should be a simple fix, but I can't figure out a way to get to behind the focus ring to see what's going on without completely stripping the lens. It's a pristine Canon FD 55mm 1.2 S.S.C.
    Hope to hear from you.

Thank's, I only have the 50mm 1:1.4 lens, but I will guess it's the almost same way for the 1:1.2, so I will make a video about how the problem maybe can be fixed in the 50mm 1:1.4.

    • @otherfingerfilms9474
      @otherfingerfilms9474 5 лет назад +1

@@mikeno62 Thanks Mike. I actually figured it out on Sunday using a few bits from your videos to work it all out. Actually remarkably simple. There was a notched gold ring that needed undoing in order to remover the second layer (so to speak) then you can access the little screws that hold the focus ring in place. These had loosened.
Thanks for the good work on all the videos!

Thank you very much for such illustrative video I learned a lot! Just one quick question. Does lens coatings are not affected by lighter fluid? Regards.

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  4 года назад +1

The lighter fluid will not at all harm the coating, the coating is very very hard, but in some other lens brand that have a softer coating, it could be a problem (some older Zeiss lenses).

    Hi Mikeno62.
Thanks so much for your video. Really helpful.
By the way, my Canon FD 50 1.4 Breech lock (same one in your video) has stiff focus ring. So I think I need to remove
focus ring to degrease and re-grease.
Do you have an idea how to remove focus ring ?
All others are OK, no fungus, no Aperture ring problem.
So I just need to remove Focus ring to degrease and re-grease.
    Thanks.

I've just yesterday night disassambled my Canon FD 50 1.8, unfortunally in my lens, the blades were placed into the plastic body of the lens itself, so i wasn't able to take off the iris like a single "block" . After unscrew the 3 screws of the iris, the blades pops up...!However the big problem was to re-assample the back part of the lens... :/
Today i've to clean the lens after the iris, how can i do? Is possible without to disassamble again all the lens?!

no matter what I do I cant get the breech lock to sit and allow screws to be revealed. it only seats in one area. I cant copy this exact because the breech is clocked different. Im so frustrated... Canon is the worst... absolute most obnoxious lens system ever. Got my lens all clean now its useless to me or to sell

No you cannot remove fungus that way, you can only kill it with sun, to remove it you need to clean inside the lens

You will kill it but it will still be there. Its not so bad opening a lens. You will be fine.
