  • Belvedere Palace (Italian: Belvedere) is a baroque palace complex in Vienna. It was built by Lucas von Hildebrand as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy, one of the great knights of his time, in the early 18th century. After the death of the prince, the Belvedere was bought by Maria Theresa.
The lower and upper belvedere with a beautiful garden around them create a magnificent baroque ensemble. Today, these two palaces house the Austrian Gallery.
The construction of the Upper Belvedere began as early as 1717.
The building was completed in 1723.
On May 15, 1955, the Declaration of Independence of Austria was signed in the Upper Belvedere.
The Upper Belvedere appears on the 20-cent Austrian euro coin.
