They actually are a good AI, even better than some of the newer entries in terms of alerts etc. Because in every game after 2, the enemies knew exactly where you were as soon as you got spotted, while in 2 they have to call for backup and if their radios broken they go to a room and tell everyone and then they call HQ.
That's cuz this game is before combat was at the forefront. That window before the enemy radios for reinforcements was to give you time to fix your mistake, since you weren't well equipped to handle an entire onslaught, whereas Snake Eater onward began emphasizing gunplay, so triggering an alert wasn't suicide anymore.
@@NihilisticSnake True, but I think made sense to make guns more emphasized in the series going foreword. After all, the games all carry deep themes of war and how it affects others, so it only made sense to allow you to wage it yourself. Besides, each game still allows you to go non-lethal(for the most part).
@@NihilisticSnake I can survive a gun fight in MGS2, and in MGS3, you can destroy their radios too. I don't remember if they run for back up tho. Before I learned how to sneak well, I had resorted to violence, and as I played harder difficulties I was forced to learn how to sneak. But yea, MGS2 along with the others after it, have encouraged players to not get caught or kill, and will reward non lethal runs. But they won't punish your for killing if you can survive the waves of enemies. Tho MGS4 will call you out with flashbacks from MGS1, when Liquid said that you enjoy killing. In extreme difficulty it is nearly impossible to survive getting caught, so sneaking is the best way. However, for speedruns, now that's when I seen others get creative and take advantage of every game mechanic possible which includes skillfully killing without triggering an alert. Idk much about MGS1, I didn't enjoy the gameplay as much so I didn't play it as much lol.
That timing when the other guy came inside and him turning around before fully opening the locker to look inside is like something straight out of a movie

It’s like a scene in the movie where the main character is seconds of being caught by the bad guy but then something distracting happens and the bad guy moves on
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this was intentional. It seemed like they wanted to make it as tense as possible, by having the guard checking the lockers get distracted at the very last second by the 3rd guard opening the door. I also really like the fact that when they discovered you in the room, they didn't enter immediately and prepared for a proper room sweep by entering together. And that little detail of the other guard walking backwards towards the exit to guard their flank. They don't make AI like this anymore nowadays. Closest modern game would be either MGSV or TLoU2
It's very impressive how they move into and out of the room though, as a group with someone taking up the rear. The way the enemies move is really well done. Of course they're still dumb as a bucket of rocks but, oh well.
Damn MGS2 was an amazing game. And this isn't hindsight talking, I remember when I got the game on launch day I was in heaven for a month. Story and gameplay (beating it on extreme was ludacris) ... teenage younger me was having the time of my life lol
Honestly I only loved the Snake Tanker section.. It was the most "Metal Gear" that it could be beyond the MGS1 on PS1. It was like MGS 1 but with next gen graphics(back then). The Raiden section totally ruined it for me.. I couldn't stand playing as this feminine character when Snake was all gritty and badass. It's just such a turn off for this game after the masterpiece that was the first one.

@@makoto5851 I say this, I'm very fortunate. Not many (in all aspects of life, but in this case gaming) get to have halcyon days to back on. What's funny is that I was in highschool when got MGS2... MGS1 (LOVE beyond words) was when I was in 8th grade... so it's not that difficult to look back and have vivid memories of it. I would have to go back to the NES playing TMNT 1 or Streets if Rage 1 + 2 on the Genesis to get my really old (but still very clear) gaming memories lol. Pole Position and Popeye on the Atari on the other hand... that's where my memory gets fuzzy 😂

Dude all MGS games are really good, I haven’t seen a game as good as this one. What I love the most is when there are 4+ people in a level and you kill and hide there body and leave only one, that soldier is freaking out because no one responds to him. He doesn’t know where everybody is. 😅

You should see other stuff from MGS2. One of My favourites is guard on the tanker listening to music on the headphones so loud that You can follow him closely and listen to it as well. Also messing with guards kept on the gunpoint gives kinda different results depending on the person You capture etc
Man, MGS2 had the best encounter music. It's invigorating, but instead of being doomy and dramatic like MGS1, it gives this "sly fox" vibe that keeps your head cool.
Honestly, besides the glitch at the end (which almost seems like the other two guys simply interrupted the search) the way the AI was clearing the room was surprisingly well done for the time

dudes, he didn't see snake because the soldier is noise-reactive and got distracted by the other soldier. that was the only point of the video: showing that the AI is meticolous in checking the room, and noise reactive.
I think they are more likely to miss you on normal and below. When you start getting into hard and above, these guys become much more efficient. Much like the bosses.
Man that’s what makes this game great though, you could have gotten spotted but just barely managed to get the enemy AI to move onto the next task, such a legendary game series

dudes, he didn't see snake because the soldier is noise-reactive and got distracted by the other soldier. that was the only point of the video: showing that the AI is meticolous in checking the room, and noise reactive.

Man that’s what makes this game great though, you could have gotten spotted but just barely managed to get the enemy AI to move onto the next task, such a legendary game series
