Eric doesn't know it but he's still poor because everything he thinks he had is nothing without George and Tracey supporting him when he had nothing! Instead of being grateful for his friends for helping him, he complains that they are poor and tosses them aside because he's living high on the hog at the time with his rich older lover! He loses his job and his rich older lover and becomes homeless and complains to Eric. He realizes that life has improved greatly for Eric when Tracey reveals her true worth to Eric who now love each other! His friends are now moving forward without him leaving him behind. They know him as a selfish immoral greedy guy who rejected true friends for money and he's on his own now!
George did try to get Tracey back when he realized he tossed away a treasure but, too late! Tracey found real love with Eric and the true immoral worth of George!
