“Ever since the womb till I’m back where my brother went, that’s what my tomb’ll say, right above my government Dumile. Either unmarked or engraved hey who’s to say?” First time I heard that after the news I just smiled knowing he’s finally back with his brother after a lifetime without him. Hopefully he’s telling him he became a big rap star like they always dreamed and that he became hip hop’s favorite villain.

Doomsday girl was a hired girl who was named Pebbles The Invisible Girl by DOOM. She was hired to do the Sade lyric (slightly changed). She’s also minimally on a track called Me Verse Me which is also on RUclips.
This is a desert island album for me, i just love it so much. The thing that I think really sets this album apart for me production wise is the truly lo-fi quality as well as the fairly obvious, yet brilliantly creative sample selection, as well as the offbeat, cut and paste arrangements. I cant think of any rapper/producer who could flip The Deele "Shoot Em Up Movies", or Quincy Jones / James Ingram quiet storm jam "100 ways", or a tiny sliver of Steely Dan "Black Cow" into such brilliant creative lo fi underground hip hop. Unlike Madlib whose sample selection is obscure and heavily curated due to having access to untold thousands of records, it seems like this album was just done with a few records he had laying around, a 12 bit sampler, a cheap mic, a 4 track, a pen and a pad and the twisted hip hop genius mind of DOOM, and he made an absolute masterpiece with these ingredients. And of course so much can be said about the insanely witty, layered, hilarious, twisted and even thought provoking wordplay all throughout the record. Sorry for babbling I could go on and on about the brilliance of this fascinating and incredible album. Long live the legendary Daniel Dumile a.k.a. Zev Love X a.k.a. MF DOOM!
I love your whole deal so much lol, it's not for when i want to listen to something new or essential at any one moment, but when i need what you provide it's the peak of RUclips for mine.. special mention of the introspective smirk when you admit that every cat woman has done it for you 😂
This was my first DOOM album both to listen to fully and own on vinyl. What a joy to see someone listen to this for the first time. Love the longer vids like this! p.s. shoutout to your vocal harmonies at around 26 min. I was like ooo yes, he feelin' it.
Throughout the 70s n 80s on nyc late night radio certain djs would play mixes of instrumentals juxtaposed w dialog of movies n tv shows. Doom would emulate this through his career on all his projects along with Wu tang and numerous other artists it became a hip hop staple.
The singing on Doomsday is not a sample. It was original vocals recorded by a friend of DOOM, although I don't think her name is publicly known. MF DOOM did a Red Bull Music Academy interview where he addressed that.
It’s a Sade sample - Kiss of Life, the whole story about his friend singing the part is just a effort to keep the track while not getting the sample cleared - Fondle ‘Em records could never afford it, Cool Bob Love just wanted DOOM’s music out after all the shhh he went through
It's very nice to see you not looking for things you don't like, being overly critical like your taste in music is somehow superior to anyone else's. How you always find something you like and bring anyone into the experience you are having. It's been a while since I listened to DOOMsday start to finish so thank you. Edit: if you haven't figured it out you asked about Doomsday sample it's Sade - Kiss of Life
Under my government, Dumile. Dumile is his government last name, but you can also interpret it as "under my government, Doom will lay" as in Doom will lay under his name in his tomb.
Great reaction! Maybe just my interpretation but the last line of Questions (?) makes me sad, especially combined with the music video: "I keep a flick of you with the machete sword in your hand Everything is going according to plan, man" At this point in the video, MF DOOM is sitting on a bench covering his eyes while his mask is on the floor. He then drops the machete I assume his brother was holding next to the mask. That visual combined with the line makes me feel like "everything is going according to plan, man" is more of a coping phrase about his brother's passing and how he had to reinvent himself afterwards. If it's all part of your plan, then you feel more in control of what happened than if it was an accident. But I may be wrong, MF DOOM was also religious and he may have been saying it in a "God's plan" sort of way too.
"Formor brit pop/punk singer ignores the lyrics and has a good time listening to a vinyl copy of MF DOOM's classic debut album, "Operation: Doomsday" for the first time"
Surprised you didn’t pick up on the glass onion sample on tick tick, granted it like the one song no one remembers off of white album, but none the less awesome stuff!
MF Grimm (the first MF) used to be close with DOOM and had a big part in this album being made but they had beef and the relationship ended in the 00s. My favourite project of his is "The Downfall of Ibliys" which was made in one day while on bail from his prison sentence.
Brother 😑 im excited about your MF DOOM journey ... but this is not the way to do it. You keep going on about stuff over his music. it's jarring and pulls me out of this experience " we're" trying to have together. Calm down a bit- make a comment "here and there"- maybe after the song is done elaborate a little more

The MF in MF DOOM has 2 meanings. When he's rapping it stands for metal face & when he's producing it's metal fingers.
The Viktor Vaughn album is so gooood! The 'Can I Watch' sample is amazing
second this!!

my fav DOOM record by far .. love the production so much . Glad you liked it !! Enjoyed my morning coffee to this ☕️

2 of my favourite albums of all time in the intro frame, Innerspeaker and Doomsday, Ta Mimpala and DOOM-- my 2 favs.

Kiss of Life by Sade is the sample for Doomsday.
Under my government, Dumile. Dumile is his government last name, but you can also interpret it as "under my government, Doom will lay" as in Doom will lay under his name in his tomb.

Your uploads are what is keeping me in course. Much love to you man!
That cover has so much class. Yes, comicstyle, but rather a child in an adult body.
I love you

It's my birthday today and this is an album I've wanted you to react for ages. You made my day thank you :)

Doomsday track 2 is sampled Sade Kiss Of Life
"Former brit/pop singer ignores lyrics on Doomsday"
This is why you're the GOAT for album reactions 😭
MF Grimm (the first MF) used to be close with DOOM and had a big part in this album being made but they had beef and the relationship ended in the 00s. My favourite project of his is "The Downfall of Ibliys" which was made in one day while on bail from his prison sentence.

One of DJ Red Alert’s singles was Gone Berserk which is the reference, stringing it together in a rhyme works nicely both literally & metaphorically

Doomsday, what. a. debut. track.
Really glad you did a bit of background and knew who sub rock was, and about MF DOOM's years in the wilderness (/on the streets)
The vocal sample on doomsday was of Sade
"Stephen Hawking is the overall narrator of the album who'd've fought it?" Hahaha
"To slow down and speed up again is a no-no in rock" tell that to Tool! Hah...
