- I didn't expect to like the HoverAir X1 drone...BUT I love it. For me it's almost perfect. It's a lightweight compact drone that is the easiest to use and get some great shots for RUclips and Social Media.

It's like a portable camera person, the way it tracks as you walk by. Incredible. A person could make a movie with it.
"Isn't technology brilliant?!" - Brilliant Kid
I love my X1. I use it loads loads more than my old DJI drone. It’s easy, deployable and saves so much time. The 11-minute battery lasts ages as you don’t waste power on setup time. Just press and go. Yes it’s pricey but it’s a really underestimated bit of kit for outdoor channel use - in my view! Love it.
I think it’s great for outdoor RUclips. It gives you that different perspective in super quick time.
Same old shots all across RUclips, it gets boring..
couldn't agree more. I had one of those big 4k camera drones for the last 6 years. Hardly used. Still looks brand new sitting in the box. My Hoverair, so easy to use. :)
Starting to win me over about drones. Only reserve I have is living within 1 1/2 miles of an airport. Doubt I’d be able to use, but saying that, plenty of places I go to would be great to get a different perspective on.
Such a fantastic little thing - good criticisms too, Paul. I think you pointed out before that the noise cancelling could perhaps be a less aggressive - which I also agree with. It'd be amazing to see them put a similar quality camera to a DJI action on that thing.
We have a software release coming that will provide different levels of noise cancellation!
I use my X1 all the time on my outdoor channel. It's perfect for vloggers; not everyone needs a full blown drone.
Definitely miss not having 4K. Price is worth it for the follow me feature alone - DJI charge almost double to have that.
I had the mini 3 pro and flew it 5 times in 2 years
I don't even film anything (though I have thought about it a lot for a good few months now) but I was never one for drones. But I do like the look of this one. Just it's size alone is a massive plus.
it looks like a great little drone. When I used a drone it was my hexacopter I built myself in 2011. A dji phantom is very very small and easy to use drone compared to my old drone. So it's funny to me that now the phantom is considered by many a big drone.
I don’t know much about drones but going by looks I expected it to be about £80, revised to about £200 when I saw what it could do
Yeah. I tend to agree with you.
yep!! 200 quid would seem fair , i`ve just looked it up on Amazon at 469!!!!
I said yes to testing one of these, but then they saw my website and turned me down 🤣🤣🤣
Did make me laugh
Looks perfect for most RUclipsrs to be fair, but too expensive
fantastic little bit of kit paul , but 469 quid????? you`d have to knock at least 200 off that before i`d look at it
It's absolutely great at the specific thing it's made for, ie following video shots. Couple it with a light drone like a Mavic Mini and a smartphone gimbal and you've got a complete video setup you can easily take anywhere, with quality that is frankly more than most people need for what, £750 plus your phone? Which is nuts really. 10 years ago you'd pay ten times that!
I'd go for that for quick shots of job set-ups. Hmm...
23% off for Prime Day too. Good timing on the video. ;)
Nice review. It actually sounds like a neat thing to carry for social media videos viewed on phone or iPads etc. I love that automatic taking out the drone noise: superb. If your videos are more about you and less about the scenery from on high then this is the drone. I’ve got a DJI Mini 3 Pro that I carry in a fisherman’s waistcoat (fancy name is a gilet isn’t it?) Pocket. Spare battery in another smaller pocket. RC in the big mysterious back pocket (anybody know what that’s for?). Honestly now it doesn’t take me more than a few minutes to get it up in air: but not as quick as you did by any means. Thanks for putting ideas into my head😄
It looks a great little drone but that Chromatic abberation in strong highlights is a shocker.
Great little drone for out in the field shots
For folks like yourself and perhaps Simon (a bloke in the woods) it would save you a lot of walking back to pick up your static camera which must be a right old pain in the arse when you are on a long hike and getting tired near the end of a day's walking. I quite like the idea of it for tracking me down rapids in the canoe. But its still a bit too pricey even with the discount.
Love mine!
This is actually sick. Yes paul 👏🏽👏🏽 id use this to record gym session 💪🏽
Nice to see you back out and with your drone this time looks good stay safe and stay healthy one life enjoy blessed be
In the EU, you beed to register it in the sub 250gm category but dont need to do pilot training. That means you can use ut legally in most countries as long as you dont fly it near airports or over groups of people. It is a bit silly considering this doesnt really act like a teaditional dtome but thems the rules.
What about the UK? Qnt restrictions?
Maybe you should proofread your text before posting
Just bought one. Thanks for an honest and good review Paul.
I love my X1 no controllers, very lightweight and fits in my pocket. Can't fault it for what I need.
Can you use it to do walk by shots without having to walk back and pick the camera up?
I think so. There’s a manual mode but not used it myself
That thing is very impressive.
great piece of kit, but imo should have upto 30m range at least as sometimes want to get good landscape shots from above etc!
The day the Hover AirX1 folks make a 4k shooting drone with log profile, just as portable, longer range, can be manually controlled, tracks fast & keep up with cycling speed & can withstand average wind speed that would be lights out for DJI drones. Or maybe DJI should incorporate AI mode in their already successful conventionally drone line up then, it would be Hover packing up.
Not bad at all. makes it all so easy for sure.
They are amazing Drones my mate got one they look awesome I'm definitely going to buy one thanks Paul for sharing this absolutely fantastic video 😊👍👏
Very informative video Paul. Thank you. Cheers 🍻
Looks incredible. Would really enhance the videos I'm making.
I am definately getting this one it's just so easy to use!
I use mine all the time. I do think it’s expensive though so I’d definitely wait for the sales or a promotion
Looks great and does its job, but that's expensive!
I agree. That was the feedback I gave them. It’s a cool bit of kit and I use it all the time but it’s down to the individual if they’d pay the price.
Do you need to get a licence with this one as you would with the DJI mini?
What about water could it be used from a rowing boat?
I would hate all that faff of putting your camera down and then walking back to get it. This thing would save time and faff for solo filming on the trail.
Too expensive for me!
Its really loud and high pitched,
I like mine, use it on most of my videos...
Prime day has it on a discount today. Pity it is halfway between pay days.
Are the motors brushless?
It's OK but the camera struggles in some lighting conditions. Also battery charge is quite bad in cold conditions really bad actually, but it will get "The shot" sometimes :)
I like it seems to work well , but the price is a little expensive
That's pretty good, but price is a bit high. But an innovative product.
It seems designed for the selfie generation. I’d prefer a mode where you can point the camera away from yourself.
Yeah it’s definitely for more selfie kind of footage
You can control it manually with just a phone. Only thing is it's limited to the range of wifi so you can't send it very high up or very far away.
Still a great little drone though. I use it to film myself messing about on a bike.
If I could get this for a fair bit cheaper I would have bought one but they seem to have spent so much on marketing. I must get 10-15 ads for this everyday.
Roughly £500. I’ll pass
Is it waterproof? Could be interesting to record some sea-kayaking?
Hi, no it's not and also can't be flown over water as its downward sensors need solid ground underneath it 👍
To add to what Mick said, you can't send it over the edge of a cliff/hill either. It needs to be able to see the ground to work.
Still, it does what it does well and they keep releasing software updates to make it better.
@ifitrollsrideit530 exactly if you want that orbit shot on the edge of a cliff your gonna have to be prepared to watch it plummet away beneath you as it needs to be 15mtrs above the ground max, these are the things they forget to tell you 👍
@@Mickoutdoors it is a big limitation but it is the first thing they tell you when you download the app.
I'm surprised that they can't get the drone to either backtrack or continue round the arc to its launch point, assuming that is a safes distance from the ground.
I suppose it uses the feedback from the sensor to adjust the motor power.
I'm hesitant. Since it's only 125 grams, how does it perform when it's windy?
It’s wind resistance to 17mph according to the specifications. Although the high birdeye shot it more prone to the wind I’ve found.
£200 quid too much for those stats. Nice toy though.
Now obviously the question is can you do walk bys with it so you dont have to trapse back for a camera 😂
looks amazing but the price is mental sadly.
More of a flying camera.
clever thing, but too pricey
Not like you to drone on!
😉
Couldn’t help myself 😂
It's what happens when someone boils down a product to the things people actually want to use it for.
😂👍👍👍👍👍😀😀😀
Pure tat get yourself a Mini 3
I got rid of my mini 3 pro for the reason I never used it.
@PaulMessner should of uses it more Paul cracking drones the mini 3
Great bit of kit but overpriced
🥱
😂
Ridiculous price
Please don’t take this as a comment
But I’m writing a comment
😂😂😂😂
I never once thought of your comment in that way 😂
Too expensive 😪
I think so too. Hopefully the price comes down as the tech advances
@@PaulMessner the price is s in the "wife disapproval zone"! It doesn't seems to have the "well is was 30% off" excuse that seems to work for her shoes!
I wonder, in your quest to be the honest, man of the people, salt of the earth, etc, outdoor youtuber, did it ever occur to you how outrageously overpriced this thing is? It's ridiiculous! The pairing down and simplification of functions (that I also like by the way) should mean a commensurate reduction in cost, from the other drones available. But no. This thing, which is like the 'pensioners phone' of drones, with a camera resolution (which you rightly take issue with) of a smartphone from 2014 costs north of 400 quid. Seriously!? I know. You do mention many of these things but it seems like you've been led down the garden path by their persistent emails... Maybe the title of the video should have been, "Love the concept. Hate the price."?
I do think it’s too expensive. I said that both in the video and to the company that sent the drone. I paid a lot more for my DJI drone that I barely used. I guess it seems better value the more it’s used. The DJI must have cost me around £70 per use. Where as I’ve already used this around 20 times in a couple of months. Would I buy it again at full price? No. But if they make the improvements I suggested to them I definitely would. I guess it’s down to personal use case.
I got one couldn't believe how crap it is, never use it.
you want a 100 nicker for it then? 🤣
@@waynus2021 Would of took 150, i bought the hard case and 2extra batteries. But I gave it to my Mates little girl.
battery life? can you get spare batteries?
It's quoted at 11 minutes. You get quite a lot out of the 11 minutes though because there's no faffing about to get it flying.
I bought a spare battery with mine and a little charger.
