We have columbia Bugaboo's that were made in the late 80's. We wear them for everything from hiking, camping, snow blowing and home construction. They still look good as almost new. The outer layer looks like new. The inner layer just looks like fleece that gets washed monthly. Just light pills. We love these jackets and can't part with them. They are the most comfortable, long wearing, high quality reasonably priced warm coats. We just purchashed another because we loved the colors. We would highly recommend and you are 100% accurate with your review. Weare 63 & 74 still using these coats. They last a lifetime. Never had to use the lifetime warranty and they are perfect.
Since they bought Mountain Hardware, their technical stuff like this has gone up a few pegs. good long lasting versatile jacket. Wayyy nicer than what you'll find at Walmart
@@Dark30Outdoors Mountain Hardware is all i buy.. or Patagonia for stuff they don’t sell. Not cause I’m a glutton for being broke.. but after two decades of backpacking they are the stuff you can depend on in the middle of nowhere. My ten year old Patagonia Rainshadow was getting boring and I had lost weight so baggy. I emailed Patagonia like hey would you buy it back I want a new jacket. They legit said what jacket do you want? It’s MSRP was the same as my Rainshadow. They sent me a brandy new jacket. They even covered the shipping back to them on the old one. Nice review, Kyle. My wife had a Columbia 3 in 1 for many, many years and it served her well. The seams in the armpits finally ripped out, but it lasted over 10 years.
I find when putting a 3-in-1 together, it's easier to put it on. I've had a Columbia 3-in-1 for 15+ years and didn't know about the warranty. Mine's suffering from the waterproofing not working too well now, but I really need a bigger size, and Columbia do have them.
my bugaboo jacket does not has any omni heat layer. just a fleece based inner jacket, and regular normal outer windproof waterproof jacket. i think it's version 2.
Must be so. I just saw version 3 in the store, the outer jacket now has omni heat layer but not covering all surface. not sure why Columbia choose to do so.
It is common in the winter to get to about 0 - 10 degrees, and definitely need them combined for that. The jacket works down to about 30 degrees farenheit!
They are always changing the model name, and mine is about 6 years old now so I don't remember. Any model that is listed as an interchange jacket or 3 in 1 jacket.
Howdy! Nice review. I noticed that your jacket has the silver Omni Heat lining on both the shell and the inner insulated jacket. This interests me and I am trying to find a 3 in 1 jacket like this. The link that you included to Amazon for this item and the Columbia web page do not show that the outer shell has the silver Omni Heat lining on it. All of the Whirlibird jackets I see only hast the Omni Heat lining featured on the inner jacket. Was your jacket an older model? Is it a special model? Please explain. I want to find one like yours.
Very good observation! I used to work at a Columbia store, and I bought my inner liner and outer shell separately. That is the only reason that both pieces have the silver omni heat! They do not sell a combo like that. The only way to get the omni heat on both pieces is to buy them separately!
@@Dark30Outdoors Thank you for the rapid reply. I think I want to buy the jacket the way you did, with the Omni Heat layer on both jackets. Can you tell me how to do that? Which two jackets do I need to buy? Will they be compatible with each other and have the sleeve and collar snaps/buttons to keep them together?
@@DomingoJack You can't buy any Columbia fleece or jacket. Only specific ones designed with the right zipper can be put into an outer shell. I was looking online and couldn't find one. Might have to buy one from the store directly. I'll try to get to my local store tomorrow and see if they have some, if so I can identify the current name of them and look for them online.

@Dark30Outdoors thanks! Bought a 1000 goosedown whatever power rating years ago but the wind chill still got through the stitching so I want to try this one in the future

It applies to all of them. The different names mostly just signify design and appearance differences. Though, some will have a fleece liner and some will have a puffer style jacket liner. Otherwise, the differences are mostly subtle and aesthetic.

Just bought one on Ebay for $39. It is a flipping beast of a jacket. Can't wait to wear it in the Brrrrrr!!!!!

Thanks mate for the great content!
Thank you! Yes, it would be very ideal for that type of activity as it is good at breaking the wind and it is breathable as well!
Nice jacket! Columbia makes great products I agree!
They certainly do!!
Will it work in -20 degree
Yes, it will work just fine!
Which is best, omni heat reflective or omni heat infinity and will I get it in India online?
Omni Heat Infinity is there latest technology so I believe they improved it.
hi kyle, nice review, may I ask , how cold is it over there at ur place? could the jacket alone protect u from the cold or u need additional layer?
