I am 33 years old today. When I was 23 I used to live in a different city where I lived 20 years of my life. I used to have a small old sedan, used to drive a lot, smoked, drunk at times with friends driving in the neighborhood and this song which I always played in loop purposely knowing the complete meaning of this song at that particular time which I wanted to freeze this song in that time. 10 years later I have switched 4 cities, having family and kids, i went back to the neighborhood in someone's car (sold my old piece 5 years back) and i played this song, you won't imagine the feeling of seeing that same old neighborhood, i could literally see myself standing and talking to my brothers and up in a smoke in another moment just like the video shows. My eyes were numb seeing that. Indeed time flies which you will never get it back so just embrace where you are now and go one step forward with that. If you look behind you will only see this beautiful song and those moments you ever spent.

So long as all the original PT members are still alive, never give up hope of at least one reunion. I believe Steven and the gang are doing solo work and will come together for at least one tour and blow everyone away. If not, all the solo work is there and there's an entire 1989-2011 discography to go on for PT. It happens but progress is as such friend
I have seen my friends admiring Pink Floyd a lot, and other rock (and several other genres of similar kind) bands. But none of them knows Porcupine Tree. WHY? HOW? and above all.. WHAT? All those beautiful admirers here, it feels good to know that there are humans on this planet who love this band. And Steven Wilson, I'll always be thankful to you and your team for giving me the music of my life.
It's just about what you discover and what you don't. It's all probabilistic, what hits your head. Can't say about the band, but this song is just wonderful.
This was the song, many years ago, that first made Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree "click" in my head and my heart. I suddenly really HEARD his voice, I really FELT the meaning, I understood all of the pain. I have been continuously listening to Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree, and all the other bands on that web of associated artists, for almost a decade now....... has it really been that long? TIIIIIIIIIME FLIES!!!
That monotonous cadence is what gives Wilson the baseline to juxtapose the subsequent jangly guitar and rise in volume and intensity against. The way he uses contrast in songs is what makes him such a good and unique artist.
This is fantastic. Progressive music just about always incorporates the sounds and techniques of other bands. The mixing of all the different sounds together - with all its emotion, drama and contrast - is what makes prog music such a delight for the mind.
Absolutely Amazing!!!! Try listening to this song when in need to relax.... take a walk down memory lane.... open your horizons to the tribulations that you have conquered... gearing up for the ones to follow... it gives you so much strength...
This song really touches me for some reason. Never really got into Porcupine Tree but I am gradually getting sucked in! Going to try and arrange and perform this song for solo-8string bass/bass pedals/voice - wish me luck!
Well for a start they're wearing clothes, it's not about sex or drugs and is played by a band that knows for sure what they're doing. So they don't stand a chance.
Frank Zappa told is a long time ago. Exactly why. Those people do not earn that fame, its manufactured. An you have to be for sale to get there. It's even a conspiracy theory...
I was born in 89 too, and for the past 8 years I have been to the darkest recesses of my mind and back again. I look like a 19 year old, but my mind is old and withered like that of an old man. Now more than ever do I see how fast time flies.
I was born in '67 The year of Sgt. Pepper And are you experienced Into a suburban heaven Yeah it should've been forever It all seems to make so much sense But after a while You realize time flies And the best thing that you can do Is take whatever comes to you 'Cause time flies She said luck is what you make it You just reach out and take it Now let's dance a while She said nothing ever happens If you don't make it happen And if you can't laugh and smile But after a while You realize time flies And the best thing that you can do Is take whatever comes to you 'Cause time flies And laughing in the summer showers That's still the way I see you now How does time break down With no marker, things slow down. A conference of the strange And your family is deranged I could tell you what I'm thinking While we sit here drinking But I'm not sure where to start You see there's something wrong here I'm sorry if I'm not clear Can you stop smoking your cigar But after a while You realize time flies And the best thing that you can do Is take whatever comes to you 'Cause time flies And the coat you wore to Alton Towers Is still the way I see you now
Their first album came out my birth year and I remember my dad blasting "In Absentia" when I was a young child. These guys are a large part of my brain's development. Thanks Pops!
If you are not having an armchair, air-guitar moment at the epic moments of track... you know..... that uncontrollable, spontanious impulse thrash around 2:21 in, with your best 'rock god' teeth baring grimace and you strumming hand flailing like a errant windmill, you must be a rhythmicly deficient, turnip licking stump kicker of a human to not be moved by this. My sympathies to you and superb Kudos to Porcupine Tree. Well played Sir.
There is no greater sense of worth to an artist to hear those words, or to read them. Maybe after you are done crying, come to my channel and find unadulterated joy.
I'm falling all over myself at how good PT is every time I listen to one of their songs. Some of the finest music ever written. I love it, but I am remiss that it's so good I have no words for it.
Right now life's just a total mess. I just heared from my hospital that I've got a chronic disease in both of my kidneys and that it's propably going to kill me. There's nothing they can do. I really can't get along with other people from my age because my puberty came 4 years earlier (special thanks to medicines for my kidneys) No-one in my class really likes me and I don't like anyone from my class. My grades at school are getting worse and worse. But when I listen to this song, and to this band, I can forget everything and smile. Steven, you're a hero!
Hi fellow PT lover. After reading your post I realize my problems are small in comparison. Do not lose hope, it is not over until it's over. I can tell you have a very sensitive Spirit, as I do. The things with the classmates will pass with time, that's just how people can be at that age. I need you to understand something there is a God and he loves you very much and does not want to see you hopeless as this life is only momentary in the context of Eternity. You are braver than you think, please hang in there, things will improve. I don't care much for religion but a relationship with God is another matter altogether. Jesus Christ is the Son of God and he loves you and wants you to be with him forever. His gift is free but it is not cheap. He wrote you a love letter in blood on a wooden crossm two thousand years ago. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever would believe on him would not perish but have everlasting life". John 3:16. Pick up a Bible and read it will bring Comfort to you, I know this from my own experience and the lives of hundreds of others that I have seen transformed miraculously. Again I am not talking about religion, I am talking about a relationship with the true and living God who gave his own life so that we may live. Peace to you if you ever need to talk please feel free to message me. Sincerely, A Friend
The one that makes you think he didn't exists. Also isn't a true god. he makes you think God wants to make you suffer but isn't, its kind of a really long talk but i'll resume a lot. Satan is the reason why God permit the suffering in this world.
Steven Wilson is such a boss. This was the first song I heard by Porcupine Tree. His solo career is just as great. Hand. Cannot. Erase. and the The Raven have become some of my favorite albums. Just the way he views music is cool.
my sister had this music video downloaded on her ipod touch in 2009, i must’ve watched it a hundred times. now i’ll b a senior in high school and hearing this song since then jus made me cry:,(
I think PF would be honoured to have such talented musicians "rip off" one of their most iconic tracks. Fact is, the 2 songs compliment each other, and both showcase different, but undeniable genius.
She said luck is all you make it... You just reach out and take it, now let's dance a while. She said nothing ever happens if you don't make it happen... And if you can't laugh then smile
I went to see this band at Wolverhampton civic centre a few years aback as a treat for my 2 sons who were mad about them at the time. Good night and very memorable
Life really goes on. It really does. Slowly and gradually you’ll understand life. You must accept that everything is temporary, you’ll be here for a short time and gone in the blink of an eye.
I wish someone had collared me at 12 years old--grabbed me by the neck and hissed, "PAY ATTENTION TO THIS." Knowing how I was, he or she would need to repeat this procedure often during my adolescence, and plenty during my twenties, then again in my thirties. There is nothing in our lives--often not even death--that can prepare us for the serious business and absolute necessity of paying attention to our own lives, of squeezing every minute out of it, and gracing it with as much of our presence as possible. If you won't believe your mother, believe me--I'm nearing 60--it's not the long lost years that torment. It's wondering where the hell you were while they flew by.
+Lynne Perkins I'm turning 21 soon and I just realized that I haven't paid attention to the last 3 years of my life. It's scary how fast things fly by when you don't take time to think about your own life and who you are.
+Lynne Perkins I say this to my children all the time. Yesterday they were so small and now they are teens...where did the time go. Make the most of the opportunities you have because before you know it.....
"spin on" something could easily be interpreted by another as "inspired by". imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, they took the time to remake what they love with their own unique twist.
Absolutely stunning... both the music and the video. Shades of Floyd and Genesis, yes, but you have to admit Steve Wilson has taken the genre into "today" and has a feel (and musical elements) all it's own!! .... amazing.
Hahah, good one! I just checked. I was born in '89 when all these awesome albums came out: The year of Dr. Feelgood (Mötley Crüe), The Miracle (Queen), When Dream And Day Unite (Dream Theater), In Step (Stevie Ray Vaughan), Dangerous (Michael Jackson), and Symphonies of Sickness (Carcass)..That's a wide range :P
I was at a store and a clerk claimed I looked almost like Mr. Wilson, which prompted me to check this group out... and here I am. Right up my alley in musical taste : )

If not, all the solo work is there and there's an entire 1989-2011 discography to go on for PT. It happens but progress is as such friend
SpikeTheSpiker I saw them four times.....all in Philadelphia.
Amazing how great and Gilmour-esque the guitar sounds once it breaks out of its monotonous cadence---enough to resurrect the song!
That monotonous cadence is what gives Wilson the baseline to juxtapose the subsequent jangly guitar and rise in volume and intensity against. The way he uses contrast in songs is what makes him such a good and unique artist.
My good friend introduced me to Porcupine Tree a few weeks ago. Saw a live show DVD of them this weekend... Simply awesome! New favorite band!
Descubrí este grupo hace poco y es lo mejor que le ha podido pasar a mis oídos y a mi mente.
This is fantastic. Progressive music just about always incorporates the sounds and techniques of other bands. The mixing of all the different sounds together - with all its emotion, drama and contrast - is what makes prog music such a delight for the mind.
Gavins playing is superb on this, as usual. Great feel.
I love Gavin, what an amazing drummer
Absolutely Amazing!!!! Try listening to this song when in need to relax.... take a walk down memory lane.... open your horizons to the tribulations that you have conquered... gearing up for the ones to follow... it gives you so much strength...
This song really touches me for some reason. Never really got into Porcupine Tree but I am gradually getting sucked in! Going to try and arrange and perform this song for solo-8string bass/bass pedals/voice - wish me luck!
I started listening to Porcupine Tree whenever I was high, and their sound took me somewhere I had never been before.
Why can't we have this kind of music in the charts :(
Because we have protected stupid people for a long time, at the expense of those of us who are not.
The rest of the world couldn't handle this . Their minds would melt.
@@gerbulonthebold1918 I think they need to...
I was born in 89. This song shows me how I'll be viewing my life in a few years. Paroxysm of many emotions. Beautiful!
I was born in 89 too, and for the past 8 years I have been to the darkest recesses of my mind and back again. I look like a 19 year old, but my mind is old and withered like that of an old man. Now more than ever do I see how fast time flies.
Missioneer Darkest recesses? Well, haven't we all?
I was born in '67
The year of Sgt. Pepper
And are you experienced
Into a suburban heaven
Yeah it should've been forever
It all seems to make so much sense
But after a while
You realize time flies
And the best thing that you can do
Is take whatever comes to you
'Cause time flies
She said luck is what you make it
You just reach out and take it
Now let's dance a while
She said nothing ever happens
If you don't make it happen
And if you can't laugh and smile
But after a while
You realize time flies
And the best thing that you can do
Is take whatever comes to you
'Cause time flies
And laughing in the summer showers
That's still the way I see you now
How does time break down
With no marker, things slow down.
A conference of the strange
And your family is deranged
I could tell you what I'm thinking
While we sit here drinking
But I'm not sure where to start
You see there's something wrong here
I'm sorry if I'm not clear
Can you stop smoking your cigar
But after a while
You realize time flies
And the best thing that you can do
Is take whatever comes to you
'Cause time flies
And the coat you wore to Alton Towers
Is still the way I see you now
Santos khadka, Thanx 4 lyrics
Their first album came out my birth year and I remember my dad blasting "In Absentia" when I was a young child. These guys are a large part of my brain's development. Thanks Pops!
Wow, nostalgic feelings, seems I spend my whole life watching this video but I took just 5 min.
I'm just wondering where the other 6 minutes of the song went.
+Michael Edwards It's the 'single' version, I think.
I'm glad that the studio Steven Wilson is with now doesn't cut out parts of the song for the video.
This short version is not enough to apreciate the magnificence of this song ...
God, thank you to my ex for being obsessed with this band. now i am too. Love him for that
If you are not having an armchair, air-guitar moment at the epic moments of track... you know..... that uncontrollable, spontanious impulse thrash around 2:21 in, with your best 'rock god' teeth baring grimace and you strumming hand flailing like a errant windmill, you must be a rhythmicly deficient, turnip licking stump kicker of a human to not be moved by this. My sympathies to you and superb Kudos to Porcupine Tree. Well played Sir.
A real modern genius, Steven Wilson, following the great ones, Pink Floyd.
Before I knew it, 17 years has passed since I saw Procupine Tree at NEARFest 2001... and I love Steven Wilson's solo music even more.
Makes me want to f*cking cry each time I listen to it. Wonderful in several senses.
I was born in '93
the year of Up the Downstair
and In Utero.
Had to do it.
Born in 62, played and loved prog/art rock, and I just discovered these guys yesterday?!🤔
Stay strong, brother!
Hope you're still fine dude. All the best for you, you'll come out of it stronger than ever
Sincerely,
A Friend
The one that makes you think he didn't exists. Also isn't a true god. he makes you think God wants to make you suffer but isn't, its kind of a really long talk but i'll resume a lot. Satan is the reason why God permit the suffering in this world.
not necessarily, God is a God of choice, and if what the Word says is true, than God gives us a choice of life or death
Steven Wilson is such a boss. This was the first song I heard by Porcupine Tree. His solo career is just as great. Hand. Cannot. Erase. and the The Raven have become some of my favorite albums. Just the way he views music is cool.
Definitely has a "Dogs" feel
chippchipp1 shure, it's almost a citation...even in the lyrics
chippchipp1 Yes, the inspiration is apparent.
+chippchipp1 2:19 feels like the ending of "Sheep"
+chippchipp1 I was thinking the same.
+chippchipp1 just wanted to write same line, they're great i mean same story as if i am listening to pink floyd, i can listen same song for 10 years!
Now that's what I called - Psychedelic Rock!! The audio version is even lengthier..Awesome!!
Bandas como esta son un regalo para nuestras vidas.
my sister had this music video downloaded on her ipod touch in 2009, i must’ve watched it a hundred times. now i’ll b a senior in high school and hearing this song since then jus made me cry:,(
So much nostalgia in this song....
First 45 seconds 1 accord. Definetly high quality music, bring a breath of fresh air to rock music.
+EveningAsylum its not the same accord. first change at 0:08
its just the highest note that stays the same
I think PF would be honoured to have such talented musicians "rip off" one of their most iconic tracks. Fact is, the 2 songs compliment each other, and both showcase different, but undeniable genius.
Man, finally someone wrote a song about time flies! Those bugs are crazy, always zipping around in the 4th dimension.
so is this song about flies that travel time?
+Morgan Aubin shit this could be a Rush song
That is what I've always thought hahahaha
Morgan Aubin bahahahaa
Now I'm gonna spend the night thinking about it!! 😂
A typical mosquito remark.
Can’t stop playing this song - just brilliant
She said luck is all you make it... You just reach out and take it, now let's dance a while. She said nothing ever happens if you don't make it happen... And if you can't laugh then smile
I went to see this band at Wolverhampton civic centre a few years aback as a treat for my 2 sons who were mad about them at the time. Good night and very memorable

Such a beautiful song, it's incredible how music travels and reaches whoever has to arrive, at the moment it has to arrive.

Life really goes on. It really does. Slowly and gradually you’ll understand life. You must accept that everything is temporary, you’ll be here for a short time and gone in the blink of an eye.
The best thing that you can do is take whatever comes to you....
+Lucas Weissenborn Porcupine Tree! Time flies!
42 likes. I'll let that be :D
Discovered Porcupine Tree on Radio Paradise. I don't know how did not know of this band. Great Music!
It's wondering where the hell you were while they flew by.
that was a beautiful story! its a one way road that's the toughest fact to accept at first..
+Cyan3205 Figure it out now or your 20's and 30's will fly right the fuck by you.
Deezildennis scary stuff. I'm so confused about how to go about all this
I almost share myself in tears with this beautiful song
amor eterno por esta cancion❤
Every now and then I come to listen to this.. and every time i feel a different way
I like this spin on 'Dogs'.
👍

I was born in 02', the year of In Abstentia
I was at a store and a clerk claimed I looked almost like Mr. Wilson, which prompted me to check this group out... and here I am. Right up my alley in musical taste : )
Exelente tema
author of THE DEATH TAX sez: God, but what a gorgeous, soaring, haunting riff, so beautiful you don't want it to end! Enough to put tears in my eyes every time. And, at the end of the vid, the people disappear one by one... erased by time. Emotional dynamite!
you´ve got to be crazy.... gotta have a real need......
You gotta sleep on your toes and when you're on the street
You gotta be able to pick up the easy meat with your eyes closed
And then moving in silently down wind and out of sight
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinkiiiiiiiiiiiing.
Tin-Tin Castro after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile
Another beautiful song performed by a great band, they keep amazing me with there music!!!!!
Time flies..
This song makes me tear up. Beautiful song and video.
This is fucking amazing
My favorite Band.

Britain is so lucky to have these guys
The best part, a video of this amazing song.
The worst part, skipping half of the song for the "radio edit".
Go look up the original!
