After stumbling upon Michael's "Because its there" video on a display tv in an electronics store, about 1987-88, and starring in disbelief while hitting the replay for 2 hours,(no really, 2 hours..) I knew that I was seeing talent, not of this earth.. Tonight, as I watch the same video, I have the exact same feeling..Miss you Michael..

Just watch him jam out while he's playing. It's like he can scarcely believe the beautiful noises he's capable of making with that instrument...truly awesome to see someone who loves playing music as much as people like me love listening to it.

I was lucky enough to hear him play live, one of his last performances before he OD'd. It was amazing to watch him play, he didn't "learn to paly guitar" he looked at a guitar and wondered what it could do. It really was a spiritual motivating experience to watch him play. Out of this world good. I resent him for dying like that! Would loved to have heard his music for a lifetime.

One of my favorite humans, much less musicians. I first discovered him when Guitar Player magazine had a floppy-45 insert of this song. I saw him twice on my birthday at Scottsdale Symphony Hall in 1988, then a year or two later at Phoenix Symphony Hall. Transfixing all of us onstage in bare feet. It was a dark day in 1997 when I discovered he died in a single-car accident in Northern California. Rest in peace my friend.

A Native American Prayer, for a Nomad. I give you this one thought to keep. I am with you still, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle Autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning`s hush, I am the swift uplifting rush...of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not think of me as gone...I am with you still...in each new dawn.

I first this song and this artist on a TV special by Windham Hill records that had a lot of unusual and great artist appearing. I had since bought EVERYTHING by M. Hedges. As a musician myself I have a DEEP appreciation for his talents. I cried when I heard he died. I hope more people come to know his music.

One of the very first cd's I ever heard back in the early 80's was a Windham Hill sampler disc and it had Aerial Boundaries on it. I was only 13 or so and couldn't believe what I was hearing, I was in awe. I remember seeing this very concert on PBS many years ago and this version of Because It's There has been my favorite M.H. ever since. Another incredible musician that died way to young. :(

I've been inspired to play & write songs on my guitar over the years by it & now know 1 of those main influences is Michael Hedges. I'm playing & singing one of my songs inspired by you Michael, Andy Mckee & Eric Mongrain among others. Thanx, Rob

Since 1990, I have been searching for the title to the soundtrack which Hedges plays "Because It's There." Documentary about a Japanese mountain climber who was ultimately lost in the snow, his body never found.
After long searching on the web, came up w/the film titles "Uemura Naomi Monogatari" also known as "Lost In The Wilderness" (U.S.) 1986. Windham Hill WD-1055 soundtrack is listed as "The Shape of the Land."
Found it! Bought it! Bless you guitarsoul for posting & musicians & Amazon!
