It sounds like they're not explaining why Hollywood is woke but why conservatives shouldn't feel like there's something wrong with them for not being woke
Odd considering there are literally documentaries AND WIKIPEDIA that PragerU could look into with as of why Hollywood is more progressive/left-adjacent… Hollywood was becoming progressive at first before 1930s until it was incentivised to not be restricted by governmental law because of poor morale regulations (abuse of power, scandals, murders, etc. Also money was a factor - which is ironic considering there still were wrongful things happening during the Hays Codes era but it was nipped in the bud by publicists, execs, etc. and the guise of it being “Christian-friendly”). I swear it feels like a lot of conservatives pick and choose what type of history they wanna remember, promote, and complain about and/or think everything that is happening presently has never happened before and/or not connecting context clues. A bunch of narcissistic behaviour imo because everything has to deal with how it effects them presently and not rationally coming to a conclusion of how we’ve got to where we are in the first place lol
There are tons of flaming reactionaries in Hollywood. It's exactly as flyingfish says. If pager u ever takes off, we're screwed. They have reduced the art of propaganda down to a hard science. It's disgusting how potent their bullshit is
So basically Hollywood is woke because being woke is popular but I can’t say being woke is popular because I’m a conservative and I don’t want to admit that.
I think they admit that. I think that's the basic assumption underlying all of this, that the right is suppressed by the almighty left, which justifies killing people in the end.
"Woke" is just the latest term for "political correctness" and political correctness was just a method of pruning topics as to offend the least number of people. And that is why right wingers wring their hands over "Woke corporations" (for things like not calling homosexuality a sin, and not calling all black people criminals) when all they are doing is positioning themselves to cast the widest net and get the most customers possible. There is a HUGE market incentive to be "Woke" and they hate when capitalism disagrees with them.

No, conservatives have meaning, that meaning is to be a nasty little shit to everyone, I mean, we've all seen they can turn on their own just as quick as they can turn on any person of color asking for equity
Sam Seder regularly says that the entire conservative movement is just pure aggrievement, and this video demonstrates that. The real value of this video is to express that conservatives feel aggrieved that Hollywood overwhelmingly dislikes their ideas. Fellow aggrieved conservatives will feel validated watching it.
They're saying it's good to be a good person, but saying it is all Hollywood is doing, at least Conservatives are actually trying to be good. They're not just thinking about what feels good, or what new fad to support. You morons hear people you support say something and NEVER actually check to see if they're speaking the truth, whether it's condoning something or condemning someone. You idiots just believe them like sheep. At least the Right does research into the truth, and has solid proof why the left is so full of shit. You're just too cowardly to watch any of the channels that don't support you little safe space. Also they're calling people who've admit to being Marxists, groomers, and so many of you lefties leaders have literally said they are Marxists. It baffles how uneducated and ignorant you people are.
I think the implication he’s subtly trying to peddle throughout that conservatives are oppressed, which is why someone who wants to be loved / wants job security etc. wouldn’t choose to align themselves with conservatives. It’s a kind of underdog/victim mentality that allows them to feel like they’re in the right and being true to their values, while everyone else is just hollowly virtue signalling or going along with the crowd.
Yes, it's not that leftist ideas are popular, it's that a cabal is brainwashing everyone into believing in evil things like equality and a fair society when they should be fighting for more godly things like segregation, canceling trans and LGBT people and tax breaks for billionaires
But doesn't the question "why is Hollywood so woke?" kinda imply "why is it disproportionately woke relative to the population at large"? I read it as saying "most normal people aren't woke but Hollywood is weirdly woke and those actors just convince a bunch of sheeple to side with them". You're right that the contents of the video seem to imply a totally different narrative though, which contributes to it being so baffling. The cogdiss is real.
Beyond political alignments, if it looks like an industry that revolves around storytelling trends “woke”, maybe it’s partly because good storytelling requires an ability to understand and empathise with perspectives outside your own.
They are literally paid to let go of their ego and convincingly step into the shoes of another. Not saying all or even most actors are empathetic saints, but even the ability to mimic someone who isn’t yourself as a job requirement seemingly would weed out most conservatives from the industry.
In my experience this empathizing experience left a Lot of franchises with a hollow and badly written storytelling. Let's be honest here people, that happens because some naive white liberal want to feel good about himself without doing something useful and Also it's a opportunity for ESG hedge funds to open to your Company, meaning: you can deliver bad products and services and still receives enormous amount of capital from those hedge funds.

Actor here. I don’t know who this fellow is, but I can assure him: Hollywood ain’t *that* liberal; plenty of people are not that nervous or worried about their job security, especially movie stars; and the performing arts has always attracted people who don’t quite fit in to a small-town conservative mindset, for one reason or another. But the people who hold the purse strings want to make things that make money, and things that they think people want to see. So their decisions tend to be rather conservative, as well as what they’ll allow on screen. Conservatives often don’t work because they’re crappy actors, and also no fun to be around. You have to have empathy to be a good performer, and if you’re difficult AND not very good, bye bye career.
I see this tendency all over the right to pathologize people who disagree with them. Jordan Peterson is probably the most famous for doing this, with his weird rants about protestors just being there to prey on women or get their friends to like them. I feel like they tend to think of themselves as the big mature adults in the room who have to figure out what to do with the impudent teenagers worried about their friends liking them and trying to figure out their independence. As someone who’s interested in going into the entertainment industry, and has talked to a fair portion of people involved in that for that reason, I think three of the reasons that there may be a correlation between working in entertainment and “leftist ideology” is that: entertainment is largely collaborative- it requires groups sized from a few to several hundred people, entertainment is a risky job- someone may be denied entry to their job well over a hundred times, entertainment is about having your voice heard- an idea that might be appealing to certain minorities that may be more likely to be left leaning. If I’m going into a system in which my economic state may end up in crisis at some points in my life, why wouldn’t I support social safety nets?
Hollywood actors are woke because to become an actor you have to be well liked and charismatic, and it's hard to be universally beloved by everyone when you actively hate a subsection of that everyone. People don't usually like people who hate them
“Job security doesn’t exist in Hollywood” is such a wild take. Both bc the film industry is heavily unionized but also people like Mel Gibson and Ezra Miller can still get work. Then again, a lot of these PraugerU types are failed screen writers and actors so what do I know.
Also with the increasing prevalence of the MCU model, with actors contracted to play the same role across multiple movies within a franchise akin to a role on a serialized TV show, job security is even better if you can land one such role. Chris Evans hasn't had to work about what his next job is going to be since 2009.
Conservatism is inherently scared of change. Moving to LA and putting yourself out as an actor is a brave life move. Many actors start out as comedians. It's orders of magnitude easier to punch up in comedy, and conservatives' dedication to traditional power structures often leads to punching down/"putting people in their place", which comes across as angry and sullen rather than funny.
The arguments you showed them making aren't just nonsense, they're true: People who want to be liked by an audience are going to pander to them, and going to display themselves as supportive to the biggest demographic as possible. What conservatives fail to understand is that it isn't just coincidence that larger society views leftist ideas as more favorable right now: its because conservative ideas, and people, are becoming more visibly foolish and unlikeable compared to the past, and people aren't tolerating the awful conservative views and actions which have been abusing our society since forever.
What is particularly confusing to me is that, PragerU makes these videos intentionally pandering to their audience who they know wants to hear the same shit they believe repeated back to them... So why is it so hard for them to understand that other media conglomerates would also do that?
Another thing to keep in mind is the location of Hollywood, itself: Southern California. It's an extremely dense and diverse population. You meet a lot of people from a lot of different cultures and backgrounds on a regular basis. The entertainment industry, itself, attracts people from all over the world. I've lived in several cities around this country, including LA, and it really is a global hub. The Speech Prof recently did a great Short about how colleges aren't actually indoctrinating students to be liberal, they're just....meeting people. Some of these kids are leaving their conservative bubbles and finding out for the first time that, hey, that gay guy in English Lit 101 is actually really sweet, and that Hispanic girl down the hall in their dorm has a lot of common interests, and that hey, maybe they're not all that bad after all. Having to find common ground and learning to coexist with a diverse group of people is what builds compassion and tolerance for those who are different than you are. It's really as simple as that. It's really hard to ignore social issues when they're on your front doorstep every day.

For those curious,I watched the vid - reason #1 was the “guilt” of actors successful roles assuaging their guilt by posturing as if they are saviors of the less fortunate while sacrificing not very much. 1) Artists tend to be open-minded, creative, and novelty-seeking, which lends itself to being left-leaning. 2) In general, art requires a capacity for empathy and imagination. Empathetic and imaginative people will tend to care about others, and that tends to lend itself to being left-leaning. 2) Hollywood is a major metropolitan area, and most big cities are left-leaning. 3) The Film Industry exposes a person to many different people, places, and experiences, which will tend to lend itself to an opening of the mind and heart. 5) People will tend to share or mirror the values of those around them, for good or ill, for a number of reasons. 6) The Arts have historically attracted Outsiders, Outsiders often (but not always!) have a deeper appreciation for justice and fairness because they know what it's like to be ostracized and marginalized. There, I solved it. Of course, Hollywood's much more complicated than the conservatives will ever admit, because Hollywood's culture is actually *neoliberal* overall.

Just returning to this video as the question is still on my mind and yet the answer remains so elusive... It's the number one thing on everyone's minds. I think about it 24/7, 24 hours in a row
To whatever extent Hollywood votes to the left beyond just urbanism, it's probably related to the type of job that actors have: if you're an engineer or a farmer, you should follow in the footsteps of your predecessors or your building will collapse and your crops will fail. If you're an artist or an actor, you *have* to innovate and add your own spin to have any hope of real success.
I saw someone mention that it's probably about how conservatives don't value art, but I wanna piggyback on that and mention that conservatives just don't like the concept of *entertainment* too much. They like having the content to consume, sure. But entertainment as an industry is something seen as meaningless and unproductive among those groups. They believe there's no value in the arts or entertainment as they don't see them as real, tangible things to contribute to the economy. They think that the entire industry would be best set to rot and the actors and writers sent to factories or fields. I think its the same reason they generally hate humanities courses or social science courses in colleges - they don't fit the conservative view of "productivity."
It's rather ironic that the Conservatives think Hollywood is woke. When the industry only been slightly more open to marginalised group for the last decade or so. The majority of the industry kept producing tone deaf movies and TV series that still use homophobic and transphobic streotypes as villains or just fridge the gays. Hell, Star-Lord wasn't even bi in the movies. What PragueU people think of as woke since the time when Kirk kiss Uhura.
The answer is actually quite simple. Actors, along with artists, want to do their work unimpeded, and it just so happens that left leaning people are more tolerant of artworks that are generally more thought provoking or challenging (Say what you will about "cancel culture, I don't care), whereas Conservatives typically go out of their way to ban or place draconian rules in media. If Conservatives had it their way, all our media would just be Christian or capitalist propaganda, as we have seen in the present and in the past.
Hollywood is woke because Hollywood is full of creatives. The best writers, actors and directors are capable of putting themselves in other people's shoes and telling their stories. Which is the basis of empathy. Empathy is the biggest difference between the right and left. Not saying the right are incapable of it, it's just the types of people they're capable of feeling empathy for is much fewer.
It's the same reason all the arts are so woke. Conservatives just aren't creative. Which makes sense since their entire political view is "I don't like change." Ben Shapiro's books and movies are perfect example.
He’s inadvertently implying that only leftists are loved and admired, or have meaning in their lives - we love to see it

Sounds like they hate culture, big surprise, they seem to hate those less well off than they are and resentful if those who are better off...yet don't blame the rich and/or powerful who are mainly the reason the poor stay poor.
It sounds like they're not explaining why Hollywood is woke but why conservatives shouldn't feel like there's something wrong with them for not being woke
Exactly this
Odd considering there are literally documentaries AND WIKIPEDIA that PragerU could look into with as of why Hollywood is more progressive/left-adjacent… Hollywood was becoming progressive at first before 1930s until it was incentivised to not be restricted by governmental law because of poor morale regulations (abuse of power, scandals, murders, etc.
Also… there are WORKING conservatives in the industry. Even to this day! Lol

Not only that: actors make a living of empathizing with others, potentially vastly different from themselves.

I wonder if Ezra Miller will ever be jailed for terrorizing Hawaii.

Here are the main reasons Hollywood is so woke:
Hollywood is woke
Very logic, much fact.
The arguments you showed them making aren't just nonsense, they're true:
People who want to be liked by an audience are going to pander to them, and going to display themselves as supportive to the biggest demographic as possible.
Woke = "Being a decent human being towards other human beings."
That's what it means to me.
Seems to be a way of taking advantage of people.
@@brycespencer6732 Being aware of how government and industry have taken advantage of people and played people against each other is taking advantage of people? What?
I don't believe being an asshole will solve anything but what I dislike about what the comments are failing to address is woke culture is all about giving the government power, just a left leaning side and frankly if you look into what the government does and has done it doesn't matter what side you vote, they're all corrupt assholes who does not care about your rights. I agree right leaning people are insufferable assholes but honestly so are left leaning people. Honestly both sides are blinded by their egos of what's right and wrong. Extremist of both sides shouldn't be taken seriously. Life isn't always easy and you can't always worry about who's feelings you're gonna hurt. There's too many people in the world to not piss someone off but also don't be a major dick that feels a need to be verbally combative with everyone. Not everyone has to hold OR CARE about your political values or your feelings. No one is obligated to anyone.
Honestly no form of economical government has worked, socialism sucks, capitalism sucks, and communism sucks. Everyone anymore is lazy and refuses to work together to make something that works better than what we got. If you are not convenient to convince a point of either side you aren't worth it is how anyone is anymore.
I say people are lazy because everyone stays in a comfort zone because they have the same ai algorithms feeding them the same biased views rather than actually educating themselves. Keep in mind I'm not right leaning in the slightest. I myself am actually left leaning but I care about everyone and I say this not to be an asshole but because I want to shine a new perspective for everyone. Not all right leaning people are bigotted assholes and not all left leaning people are woke sjw's. We genuinely need to learn to accept the aggravation and try to learn each other rather than deny

For those curious,I watched the vid - reason #1 was the “guilt” of actors successful roles assuaging their guilt by posturing as if they are saviors of the less fortunate while sacrificing not very much. And this checks out to me somewhat, modern liberal woke beliefs are more posture. But it still fails to account for differences - guilt can also be assuaged by deigning all less fortunate less deserving.
Aka “conservatives don’t practice what they preach and haven’t read their favourite book very well” because if he believed the crap he said he wouldn’t associate guilt with conservatism he’d say the right cares but they don’t. And they know they don’t.

speaking completely egoistically, this channel was such a great idea
now i can have more nuggets of wisdom from joel more often all the time! thanks, joel!
creative people tend to not be socially conservative. it's not rocket science, though admittedly prager U falls way short of rocket science.
Anyone else seen that PragerU ad where this girl just lists reasons why conservatives are terrible? There's not even a "but", she just keeps going.
And this is an Advertisement?
"There is a presasive belief that conservativsm is hate and anti-science"
WE ALL TRYING TO FIND THE GUY WHO DID THIS.
I just like their one point that a lot of it is "just a coincidence." Like "Why is Hollywood so woke? Idk dude it's probably just a coincidence" lmao
I interpreted that part as sarcasm, like a little wink tying back into deep state bs that the evil liberals secretly control everything
"Why do people dislike me just cos I'm wrong about everything?" - Prageru
PragerU seems like a great place to get a PhD in self owns
When the majority of artists, scientists, and educators are lining up against you, the reasonable thing to do is reevaluate your position, but the conservative thing to do is entrench.
Dare I say… first? Are we still doing that?
You should have stopped 15 years ago
Congratulations
We never were
Congratulations
SLAY FIRST
PragurU and circular reasoning, name a more iconic duo.
also am i the only one who felt like when he says “being woke means job security”, hes implying a certain narrative that pop culture figures are made to conform to
… it felt just a tad conspiracy theory-ish to me
Just returning to this video as the question is still on my mind and yet the answer remains so elusive...
Why is Christian Toto look like the love child of Ricky Gervais and Piers Morgan? I can’t unsee it 😭
The answer is actually quite simple.
It's pretty fucking simple really. Artists tend to be more left leaning because art is a machine for empathy.
I'm starting to think PragerU isn't that good of a university.
🤦🏽♀️
Your main channel should have this channel listed on the 'channel' feed. (currently it's just Jenna marbles?!)
It's the same reason all the arts are so woke. Conservatives just aren't creative. Which makes sense since their entire political view is "I don't like change." Ben Shapiro's books and movies are perfect example.
If conservatives could make good art, you'd think they would have done it, somewhere in the world, at some point in the last 80 years.
