Hey all, so after experiencing some pain and numbness in my feet for 6 miles in the Vongo, I’m sad to say that perhaps my final decision has changed. I love so much about the Vongo, but obviously no one wants pain. So do what you want with this info, but I felt it was necessary to update you all.
Thanks for the update! At the end of the day, the shoe has to work for your individual needs. Hopefully the Arahi will be training companion you were looking for!
I spent weeks researching shoes ( I'm a Virgo 😎)and watching LOTS of video reviews. Your video from Feb 11th and my research convinced me to get the Arahi 5 ( Blue Fog). I have had the shoes for 1 week and for me ( wide feet) they feel like I stepped onto two clouds. It 's the first time in a little over two years that when I take my shoes off they aren't swollen and painful. Pain from my metartarsalgia is GONE! Pain from my Midtarsal caused by my flat feet is GONE ! My over pronating is Gone ! Both a Pedorthist and a Podiatrist said this couldn't happen. Plus they said I needed costly insoles that they personally would make for me. Cost, was going to be either $ 495.00 or $ 550.00 ( Cdn) I have yet to put my over the counter Powerstep insoles into the Arahi 5 simply because, so far, I haven't needed them. All I wanted from a pair of new shoes was that I could be pain free. That's all. I am happy and very grateful. Thank you for another really good video ! P.S. At 75 yrs you want as little pain in your life as possible. 😁
Good comparison, I will pass on both and sticking with the Endorphin Speeds for all my training these days. So versatile. Thanks for keeping us updated on your training for Chicago, wishing you the best from 🇨🇦
Sorry to hear about the foot issues. I hope you find the right shoe soon. That shirt, aside from being for a great event for a great cause, is also one of the softest, most comfortable shirts I’ve ever owned. 🙌🏼
We need Doctors of Running to hook you up with an exam and some shoe info. Would be a super interesting mashup since you’re having issues. Enjoying the training recaps, and glad to hear your opinions here.
Bummer! I was hopeful for an alternative to the Arahi 5, which I personally love just hoping for a switch up. Guess I’ll stick with what works, even tho the colours are boring. 😉
Hi, could you please answer the following questions...1. Which of the Hoka Arahi 6 or Saucony Tempus is more stable for someone who pronates inwards excessively? 2. Which of those shoes has the stiffer rocker? I dont have stores near me to try these and trying to figure out which one to go for. Thanks.
I tried the Hoka Arahi 5 but it’s just so much softer than last version which caused lower back pain and some knee pain after my runs. I had to return them. I’m waiting on my Vongo 5. Finger cross hopefully it will be good!
I was told the Vongo is a corrective shoe, for people who pronate their feet this could be why some are having issues with this shoe but that's what I was told
Emily, here's the bottom line, as I see it. The fresh foam X will offer a lasting cushioning effect that is not present in the Hoka. I'm going Vongo V5. Thanks.
I tried last year's Ahri for the NYC virtual marathon, sadly not as great as I originally thought, ie blisters, , but I now use them as my work shoes as an RN and the cushion and stability works great for 8 hours on feet. Thanks for review. How goes Chicago training? 16 weeks until NYC!!!!
Loving your reviews...thank you! I'm also running Chicago so deep into training, but still shuffling around with my sneakers as also currently dealing with some PF issues (from the Mach 4s unfortunately, which were just too soft for me--switched to Asics Glide Ride 2s for my long runs which have been great so far). What are your thoughts generally on neutral shoes with orthotics (like Currex as some have mentioned) vs dedicated stability sneakers for moderate pronation? Also, what are you planning as your race day shoes?
No clue what the race day shoes will be yet! It’s been a saga trying to figure that out. I haven’t ever tried orthotics but a couple people here and there have recommended them to me!
I have run on the Gaviota 3, the other stability shoe by Hoka. It was ok, but the midsole was really hard, particularly on the heels. I assume is the J. Not sure if the Arahi is the same but that kills my interest on the technology. Thanks, hope the pain goes away soon...
Emily, thanks for another great video! I am sorry you experienced pain in the Vongos today, that sucks. :( Do you think you will go back to the Arahis or try another shoe?
I wonder what your opinion is in regards to the difference in drop. You mentioned that with the Arahi it is the standard Hoka 4-5mm, but it’s 8-9mm in the NB. I am struggling to understand how that can affect my running, and if it does, what the problems caused by either the higher/lower drop would be. Would the higher drop encourage you to be leaning forward more?
Hi ma'am why is it the right side of out sole will first worn out not in left side out sole which is the overpronate side, all my shoes? Is there any chance if you are overpronate the right side outsole will first worn out? do i need a stability shoe?
I see okay ma'am thanks for the response. I like the way you reviewing a shoes even a small details of the shoe especially on the dislike part there's a honesty and precise. Like nothing to hold on.
I asked which to get in a sub on reddit, coincidentally you made the exact video i needed today. I was confident on the grongo but the foot pain is worrying, looking for a training shoe for marathon training so something comfortable but pain free. Rahhh, too much choice
Great personal insights. The Vongos have been recommended to me before but I always feel like my foot lands tilted to the outside and stays outer line heavy on the transition to my toe off....
can you do a comparison with the dynablast shoe and the dynablast 2 that would be awesome anyways i like the way you explain the novablast 2 shoe but that shoe has alot of stack height for me but asics are my favorite type of running shoes so far i have the ge ds trainer 25 rn my first running shoe ever lol
Hi Heller, i have now purchased the Arahi 5 because of the video lol. My first proper running shoe after saving for months and running my first marathon in October. But the shoe feels like it presses into the middle of my foot, the midsole feels bulky ( the running lingo needs some getting used to). Now I am feeling like it's the wrong shoe for me, it's been a week with it, maybe I will get used but I can not imagine spending so much money on another shoe. *i want to cry right now* Will it get softer? is that the normal design?
So sorry that you’re not having luck with it! The Arahi that I have is pretty soft. If you are looking for something softer you can try the Clifton 8, but it is possible that your shoe might just need some time to break in a bit!
@@millennialhomesteader I've just done a long-ish run in these today and not a good experience. Got two blisters on both arches of my feet which meant my run was cut short! These are getting sent back Hoka tomorrow.
@@solefreak2 oh my goodness. I am so sorry about the blisters, that sucks. Unfortunately, i did not buy from Hoka, so I can not return them to them. I am looking to exchange with another pair. Still looking around!
@@RunLikeHeller Thank you. Curious to hear about what the midsole feels like compared to v1, the upper fit, and does it have a reasonable heel counter for a light stability shoe? Appreciate your reviews!

Thanks for watching! I’ll be going back to the speeds for some faster miles coming up this week
The speeds work for you as a stability shoe?
@@johnjutras2097 they are not the most stable but I really love them anyway.
I LOVE my endorphin speed 2 but I’ve come to realize I need a stability shoe. Anything somewhat similar to the endorphin that are stability?

Arahi is nothing like the Gaviota in my experience. Try it.
I haven’t tried the Gaviota so I’m not too sure how they compare
I’ve been wearing my Gaviotas around the house to break them in. Every few days they get a bit softer.
