Legacy is definitely the definitive game when it comes to seeing the Harry Potter world brought to life, but there's certainly no denying how the older games will always have a place in the hearts of those who were kids back when those titles dropped, and of course playing a role in helping this game realize its world. @Nick930 The castle isn't meant to be a recreation of the one from the movies. It's very different, such as the grand staircase. It's more based on the description from the books with influence from the movies where applicable.

With so much happening in Legacy - the main plot, all the side quests and main quests, the exploring etc - adding quidditch would have distracted from the overall feel of the game...considering the main character is playing catch up with their studies, plus trying to discover their hidden talent and unravel a mystery, plus getting distracted from side quests - i can't imagine how they'd find the time to even play quidditch PLUS they are still getting up to speed with flying. I think if they were to release a sequel, that might open up the opportunity to include quidditch. my main issue with the game is the "revelio" spell... i like the idea of it BUT like many, i find myself casting it everywhere all the time. It makes the game feel very unnatural, it becomes a crutch for people to rely on, and it means secrets don't stay secret for long -- Surely hermione would have known this spell and it would have solved a lot of problems in the books/movies.
I actually appreciate the divination ladder! They were faithful to the books in this aspect. I loved ur video and all the amount of work you put into it. Thank you ❤
Yeah... No, sorry, but the controls for flying a broomstick in the PC version of Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone in Quidditch wasn't terrible. They weren't particularly great, but they weren't truly terrible either. It was actually one of the few games from the franchise that allowed freely broomstick flight along with the console versions of the Sorcerer's Stone and the Chamber of Secrets. And in the console version of Chamber of Secrets you could fly a little bit free roam around the castle. The PC version of Chamber of Secrets, and almost every version of Goblet of Fire and Half Blood Prince had on rail broom flight, where you couldn't freely change direction. I'm also not a complete fan of the broom flight controls in Hogwarts Legacy. I find it unintuitive to hold forward on the left stick to move forward while using the right stick to adjust height. The problem with that is you lose almost all camera control because you can only use the right stick now to look left and right, but not up and down. I prefer a control scheme where you have the left stick for turning left, right and fly up and down while the right stick controls the camera, and you use either A or the Right trigger to fly forward. Which thankfully is a mod on the PC version of Hogwarts Legacy you can download and use.
the chamber of secrets bathroom in the 2003 ps2 game was accessed through a normal door on the second floor i believe. the bathroom through the portrait (fred and george’s shop) was an entirely different bathroom, it just looked similar.

A large focus on the graphics. Textures and special effects in many modern games are over done, and takes way too much space, or might even require getting a new PC just to play a game. And it's not really something everyone could afford. And having to uninstall a lot of games only to install one kind of proves that point too. The importance isen't how the game looks, but how it feels. And how well the gameplay mechanics work. The only game in which house points seems to matter is Chamber of Secrets. And I think having the points doing some impact would have improved Legacy as well. And focus more around Hogwarts, rather than exploring so far away from the school. It takes a lot of extra space, just like the graphics. Having some more focus on the school, as well as professors and students would have been an improvement. They basically ghost you once you've done all of their quests. Some more dialogue would have been fun. Maybe some mini games. Like playing gob stones, or wizard chess with some of the students. Or recruiting some of your friends after you've completed some of their questlines. Or some additional task by the professors. Maybe having an exam in a dungeon? Like a mix between the third game (in which you had an exam), and the second, in which you gained better score for more stars and faster time. Quality over quantity. Content over graphics. It's a fun game with a lot of good stuff, but some things are a bit bare, while some things feels a bit bloated.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone book describe no such central stairwell. What it does mention is stairways that change their destination occasionally.
I really dislike the lighting in the new game... The reflections are cool and all, but to me the massive amount of shimmering distracts from the image more than they add to it, regardless of how neat they are from a technical perspective. And somehow in all footage I've seen so far the contrast in the new game seems to be really shallow, you barely ever have something bright- and dark-looking in the image at the same time. To me as a result it feels like the game just has no lighting/shadows at all. Colors are washed out compared to the old games as well. It may look more realistic to go with a more limited color range for, well, a realistic visual style, but looking at this video makes me want to explore the vistas of the old game much more than those of the new one. That said, I'm happy for everyone who doesn't mind these things (or enjoys them) and has fun with the game; it seems to be pretty well received after all
Finally, someone who shares my criticism of the new game. The old games had brilliant art direction despite the limited graphics. And the colorful world worked perfectly with Jeremy Soule's scores.
@@moelester3141 Actually EA hired a bunch of small companies to make tie-in games for the first 3 Harry Potter games and only gave them a year of dev time to release along side the movie. Also there argument was about art direction which has little to do with how much money is behind a project as Legacy was clearly aiming for a relaistic style with washed out colors while the older games were going for a more coloful slightly cartoony style.
As an Xbox OG player and still today... SS, COS, & POA all felt exactly the same, aside from story related stuff. GOF was AWFUL. Became real impressed with OOTP and HBP. Before Legacy, those two were probably top notch on detail and layout of the castle. With DH, eh, you were battling mostly, so you had no magical feel. So, bottom line, Legacy is beyond incredible blending both books and movies together on what we know of the locations and how they look.
Confused why you didn't just use a game like Order of the Phoenix as a comparison instead, that also has a fully explorable hogwarts and can probably me more directly cross referenced with Hogwarts Legacy
Also why in the early Harry films Hogwarts is filled with kids, yet in later games as Harry Potter became adult, everyone else is an adult. Yet they’re adults all in legacy too. I find it interesting.
You have to put ''SPOILER ALERT" thing in the beginning. Now, before starting Hogwarts Legacy once again in another house, I already know about two NPC, because of you... However, I still love your videos and it helps a lot to understand something about old/new/remastered versions of some games. Peace
Or because you clicked on a video about Hogwarts Legacy before playing Hogwarts Legacy. I'm 50 hours in and would have never done that, if I wasn't. Most spoilers are easy to avoid if you stay away from the material before you play.
I wish Hogwarts Legacy had a warmer atmosphere/color scheme like the first 2 movies. Everything's quite grey and colorless in it like in the last couple movies.
While I think you’ve been way way WAYYY too harsh on this game, I feel as though you gave me a good perspective on how far video game has come. This video made me appreciate modern gaming more, so thanks bud 😅
The Harry Potter game of the ps2 still looks beautiful played on an old monitor that hides the imperfections and makes it look awesome, for me anyway. Not as realistic of course, but still just as beautiful.
They missed SO many things for this game. But they didn’t ruin it; which I’m thankful for. I’m also very glad they didn’t sugar coat death or violence in this game.
i was writing in comments if this game have same quality as ps1 it will be so great and now you have same feelings as me about the first game offcourse i want to see graphic deference to the last game deathly hollows
You should compare Hogwarts Legacy to the PS3 entries Order of the Phoenix and Prisoner of Azkaban. The castle in those were pretty faithful to the films and I would argue are the 2 best HP games not named Hogwarts Legacy.
Ordered a lot of used games from ebay and only just received a copy of order of the pheonix. I am planning another video with it later - either a comparison or something more
9:13 Thats exactly how the entrance to the Divination classroom is described in the Novels :) Also, Why are you only showing footage from the first 2 games? the 5th game had a way better Hogwarts in terms of design and accuracy to the movies.
Yeah the students do silly stuff sometimes. I seen a guy trying to walk on the side of a wall with magic in the courtyard and was having difficult standing straight as the gravity tried to pull him down. It was funny.
Newer harry potter games after 4th game made Hogwarts pretty much like in the movies however these games weren't that good beside (Order of the phoenix and half blood prince). That being said first 3 games are the best. I loved them for the puzzles and platforming. We definitely need more adventure games again.
Wouldn't a direct comparison between the console versions be more honest? I know you wanted each version to look as good as possible and that makes a lot of sense too. But first of all it's a bit unfair: You compare a 20 year old game running on new hardware with tweaks that weren't possible when it released to a current game on what is now current hardware, so while one game is shown as intended, the other game isn't. And secondly, it's a bit falsified, because most people won't be able to play the new game on an expensive PC at max settings and most people also didn't play the old game in recent years tweaked to this resolution.
I hate the Mirrors in new game, they must RTX everything until its ugly again, I rather just doubling of the image for reflections, the excuse is cost but RTX costs even more resources.
Correction/notes:

Before Legacy, those two were probably top notch on detail and layout of the castle. With DH, eh, you were battling mostly, so you had no magical feel. So, bottom line, Legacy is beyond incredible blending both books and movies together on what we know of the locations and how they look.
I couldn’t care less about the technical stuff of these comparison, I just enjoy your voice
Hey @Nick930, will you do a Fromsoftware video soon? Maybe after Elden Ring DLC?
Someone said, in their totally no political agenda behind it, review that hogwarts legacy has bad graphics lol
Confused why you didn't just use a game like Order of the Phoenix as a comparison instead, that also has a fully explorable hogwarts and can probably me more directly cross referenced with Hogwarts Legacy
9:13 thats how they described the room in the books
whate were u expecting, the cloak to clip through the stool? 19:25
LOL
I think since you modded the old PC games to run in 4K, it would have made sense to emulate the PS1 and PS2 games in 4K as well.
Also why in the early Harry films Hogwarts is filled with kids, yet in later games as Harry Potter became adult, everyone else is an adult. Yet they’re adults all in legacy too. I find it interesting.
These videos make me sleepy, not in a bad way
You have to put ''SPOILER ALERT" thing in the beginning.
They ll do Quidditch soon enough, you have to keep players hooked and every Harry Potter fan likes Quidditch in a way.
Aaaand over a year later, they release a new game with a cartoon-like style for Quidditch lol
WHAT SHADER ARE YOU USING IN HL
Um.. none? The default?
@@Nick930 oh it looks super great lmao better than mine
4:58 it's Avalanche Software not Avalanche Studios who made the game
I wish Hogwarts Legacy had a warmer atmosphere/color scheme like the first 2 movies. Everything's quite grey and colorless in it like in the last couple movies.
Pls do Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix vs Hogwarts Legacy next pls
The game was heavily based of the books and not the films
Setting DLSS to performance mode makes no sense for this type of video. Why would you do that?
While I think you’ve been way way WAYYY too harsh on this game, I feel as though you gave me a good perspective on how far video game has come. This video made me appreciate modern gaming more, so thanks bud 😅
The Harry Potter game of the ps2 still looks beautiful played on an old monitor that hides the imperfections and makes it look awesome, for me anyway. Not as realistic of course, but still just as beautiful.
They missed SO many things for this game. But they didn’t ruin it; which I’m thankful for. I’m also very glad they didn’t sugar coat death or violence in this game.
i was writing in comments if this game have same quality as ps1 it will be so great
and now you have same feelings as me about the first game
offcourse i want to see graphic deference to the last game deathly hollows
You should compare Hogwarts Legacy to the PS3 entries Order of the Phoenix and Prisoner of Azkaban. The castle in those were pretty faithful to the films and I would argue are the 2 best HP games not named Hogwarts Legacy.
Should have rather compared it to Order of Phoenix
I plan on looking at that too. But no - i wanted to look at the games i had played 20 years ago, not order of Phoenix.
It really does have a similar game feel as the Arkham series omggg
Amazing how far we've come. What will games be like in 20 more years? 😯
Truely an amazing world recreated by the devs, loos and plays really good. Only my complain is lack of quidich and poor PC performance.
The old one looks more colorful.
Can you make a history of Harry Potter video
Should have compared it to the order of the phoenix game, where the castle was fully modeled
Ordered a lot of used games from ebay and only just received a copy of order of the pheonix. I am planning another video with it later - either a comparison or something more
9:13 Thats exactly how the entrance to the Divination classroom is described in the Novels :)
Also, Why are you only showing footage from the first 2 games? the 5th game had a way better Hogwarts in terms of design and accuracy to the movies.
Playing this game honestly took me back to playing the OG games way back when.
2:15 did you guys notice that girl walking on top of the fireplace
Yeah the students do silly stuff sometimes. I seen a guy trying to walk on the side of a wall with magic in the courtyard and was having difficult standing straight as the gravity tried to pull him down. It was funny.
18:40 Was there supposed to be audio of the NPC talking?
Yup. Not sure what happened there. Oh well.
Knew I can count on you for delivering another great video! Haha love these.
Newer harry potter games after 4th game made Hogwarts pretty much like in the movies however these games weren't that good beside (Order of the phoenix and half blood prince). That being said first 3 games are the best. I loved them for the puzzles and platforming. We definitely need more adventure games again.
It is a smart move for them to ban the quidditch so they can develop the game more and create a dlc and more money for them
Pretty good explanation as to why we can't play Quidditch lmao
the game is based off the books not what the film looks like exactly, thats why theres a ladder
9:33 bro really called hogsmeade hogsmed
Nick930, the hero we need right now.
