Without the Word, there is no reformation, no protestants, no Pentecostalism, and you can forget this hysterical revival also. Easy for you to say "Bible is not the Word of God". But do you know for this very Bible, many from first and second century, up until 18th and 19th century have given their lives. Many were martyred and many continue to struggle in translation ministries, so that you may have the Bible in your language. Even today, in some countries, you will be severely tortured and punished if they see you having the Bible. anyway, you haven't responded to @jeswinkj23. How do you identify false teachings and heresies without Bible? This is the reason you believe in anything and everything, just like the church in Galatians.
@Elves785 When you say "Bible is the collection of histories, family trees, events and word of God", which in one sense is partially correct, but in totality is incorrect. You sound as if Genesis to Nehemiah, which contains historical events, genealogies, etc. is not Word of God, but there are other passages or some selective passages which is Word of God. Do you think historical events of Israel are irrelevant for New covenant believers? Btw, there was this person called Marcion, in second century AD, who wanted to remove OT and also all the references which point to Old Testament from the gospels and epistles. He was the first person to canonize New Testament, but his version of Bible was not accepted and lo and behold we have 66 books in the Bible. Our forefathers, rejected his version of Bible which did not contain any reference to Jews or their history, because for them even OT was the Word of God. Your thinking is not new. For Marcion also, OT and some portion of Scripture was not Word of God. Church declared him heresy, though he was an evangelist, theologian and an important figure in the history of Church. There have been similar heresies in the past, since the inception of the Church. Bible indeed contains history, family trees or genealogies, various events, words of wisdom, etc., but one area where you and me differ is, for me from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 is Word of God and that includes all of the above. One of the reasons, why I consider Bible in its entirety as the Word of God is because God speaks to me from almost every passage, whether it is history, family tree, proverbs, etc. I agree there are genealogies which we fail to understand, but it is our failure, but I believe if it is in the Bible, there is a purpose. Anyway, it is not your fault. This is why we need good expositors of the Word. I hope you understand there is a difference between expositors of the Word and preachers of the Word. When good expositors of the Word speak, you will understand what God wants to speak through genealogies also and the purpose behind it. Unfortunately, we have very few expositors. We have many preachers, apostles, prophets and pastors who want to elevate people into glory realms, into ecstasy and hysteria, with no foundation of the Word. Church history teaches us, many theologians, evangelists, bishops, priests and popes became heretics. They were rejected by the Church because they taught things different from the teachings of the Bible. It is true, like someone else has commented that we should not contain God in the Bible. God is beyond Bible. but remember, there is a purpose God gave us the Bible. There were forces, who tried to burn the scriptures from the early first century. Even the Church before 16th century thought that laymen were not worthy to read Bible and therefore, laymen were not allowed to do so. Translation of the Bible was not allowed, and some people were killed/ martyred for the sole purpose of bringing the Bible into our hands in our mother tongue. There are people still involved in translation ministry. People who are leaving their comfort zones, AC halls, and living among the tribal people and villages, learning their languages and translating the Bible into their languages. And they are not putting efforts to translate merely some portions which you think are the word of God, and leaving out those portions, which are mere history and irrelevant genealogies. They are working hard to present the Bible in its entirety. Clearly, you have no clue how Bible reached you, the cost many people gave and continue to give, with their sweat and blood. Anyway, like I said, I differ from you because for me- from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 is the Word of God. Not because someone said so, but because it speaks to me. I confess, there are passages, which I do not understand, but I am not perfect and I am still learning. I believe, God will give wisdom to understand those passages as well. May God bless you

But unfortunately, what you said is not the complete truth, and this is the danger the Church is facing today. Jesus also referred OT Scripture to counter not only religious hypocrites but also Satan. Jesus Himself is the fulfilment of OT prophecy and every OT Scripture points to Him only. Now will you also explain what does Paul mean when he says to Timothy "All Scripture is God-breathed" (2 Tim 3:16,17). Do you understand the significance of the adjective "all" used infront of the noun Scripture"? There is no doubt, that for Paul, who Himself was a Jew, a Pharisee of Pharisees, student of Gamaliel, Scripture meant the OT in its entirety including the Laws (Pentateuch/ Torah), Writings (Ketuvim) and Prophets (Nevim). For us, the new gen Christians, Bible contains the Word of God, but for Jews, who originally held the OT, the Scripture in its entirety is the Word of God, and that is why Paul says "All Scripture". The very genealogy and numbers that we don't understand in the Pentateuch is considered equally authoritative as the law for Jews and not just selective portions of Torah. Now as far as the significance of Bible goes, let us learn from Church history. We Christians started the practice of indulgences in the medieval period. This practice was started by the then-spiritual leader of all Christians, Pope Urban II. Later on, this practice was abused by the church and they began to sell indulgences. They lured the people to purchase indulgence which was "a monetary payment of penalty which, supposedly, absolved one of past sins and/or released one from purgatory after death". Poor innocent people who then had no access to the Bible (as laymen were considered unworthy to read and handle the most Holy Word of God), were not aware that they were being exploited by rich religious leaders to build St. Peter's Basilica. Martin Luther, who himself was a Catholic priest, raised questions (not for creating a division, but for a discussion) against the then Bishop. Martin Luther on Oct 31, 1517, posted 95 thesis, which later became a watershed moment in Christian history, leading to Reformation. Ask, Martin Luther, what was the basis for him to question the church. He will respond- The Scripture. Martin Luther, in his personal reading, found that many of the practices in the Church including the sale of indulgences have no Biblical (Scriptural) basis. This is neither the teaching of Jesus nor the Apostles. No Pope can pardon sin, but Jesus alone. Salvation is free. You need not pay money for it. It was this very Scripture that opened the eyes of Martin Luther and many others. You (considering that you are Pentecostal or independent or at least Protestant) and I are the product of this Reformation. One of the five solas of Reformation is Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone). It was to highlight the authority and significance of Scripture in the Church which was earlier undermined. Because, in those times also people (Priests, Bishops) had claims of revelation and taught the Church many things. The Church moved according to this self-proclaimed revelations and not the Bible. Just as we think today that Reinard Bonke cannot go wrong, Anish Mano cannot go wrong, Finny Stephen cannot go wrong, all fire wings leaders cannot go wrong. Then also, it was said Church leaders, especially Pope cannot go wrong. The words of Pope were considered infallible and more authoritative than the Bible. Is history not repeating today? They also taught many things which is not in the Bible. For the Reformers, like Martin Luther, John Calvin, Ulrich Zwingli, etc., Scripture was the anchor to which they held on when many teachings contrary to the Bible were being introduced in the Church and the poor laymen were being exploited. Another thing that you need to learn from Christian history is that many of the heresies in the Church were introduced by priests, Bishops and Popes. and Same thing is happening today. History repeating itself. At that time also, no believer could question them if they speak anything outside Bible. Today also the same. At that time, also people blindly followed religious leaders, today also the same. Jesus Himself said, blind follow the blind and both fall into a ditch. But there is a difference. in the medieval period and early centuries also, believers did not have access to Scripture. They were dependent on priests. Today, we have Scripture in our hand, in our mother tongue. Still we choose to blindly follow and fall into ditch. If Satan could enter Peter, while he was with Jesus, how much more prone we all are, including the servants of God. Brother, you have still failed to answer, if not for the Scripture, how will you discern and protect the Church against false teaching and heresy. Remember a south African Christian priest Paul Mackenzie who led over hundred of believers into a jungle promising them to show Jesus. Over 100 people including women and children starved to death. Tell me, if not for Scripture, how will you discern their actions. You know, there is prophet in Punjab. He is very famous. you see him on RUclips and other social media. But no one knows, to meet him for a prayer (as he is a miracle worker) you need to pay 10k to 15k. This is a local testimony from our place. You are absolutely right. Let us look unto Jesus. But without Scripture, there won't be any Reformation. Instead of looking to Jesus for Salvation, we would still be looking at the Pope for indulgence and for absolution of our penalty. By the way brother, it is this Bible, that introduces you to Jesus.

Heard of Sola Scriptura and the Reformation? Without the Word, there is no reformation, no protestants, no Pentecostalism, and you can forget this hysterical revival also. Easy for you to say "Bible is not the Word of God". But do you know for this very Bible, many from first and second century, up until 18th and 19th century have given their lives. Many were martyred and many continue to struggle in translation ministries, so that you may have the Bible in your language. Even today, in some countries, you will be severely tortured and punished if they see you having the Bible.

@Elves785 When you say "Bible is the collection of histories, family trees, events and word of God", which in one sense is partially correct, but in totality is incorrect. You sound as if Genesis to Nehemiah, which contains historical events, genealogies, etc. is not Word of God, but there are other passages or some selective passages which is Word of God. Do you think historical events of Israel are irrelevant for New covenant believers? Btw, there was this person called Marcion, in second century AD, who wanted to remove OT and also all the references which point to Old Testament from the gospels and epistles. He was the first person to canonize New Testament, but his version of Bible was not accepted and lo and behold we have 66 books in the Bible. Our forefathers, rejected his version of Bible which did not contain any reference to Jews or their history, because for them even OT was the Word of God. Your thinking is not new. For Marcion also, OT and some portion of Scripture was not Word of God. Church declared him heresy, though he was an evangelist, theologian and an important figure in the history of Church. There have been similar heresies in the past, since the inception of the Church.
Bible indeed contains history, family trees or genealogies, various events, words of wisdom, etc., but one area where you and me differ is, for me from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 is Word of God and that includes all of the above. One of the reasons, why I consider Bible in its entirety as the Word of God is because God speaks to me from almost every passage, whether it is history, family tree, proverbs, etc. I agree there are genealogies which we fail to understand, but it is our failure, but I believe if it is in the Bible, there is a purpose.
Anyway, it is not your fault. This is why we need good expositors of the Word. I hope you understand there is a difference between expositors of the Word and preachers of the Word. When good expositors of the Word speak, you will understand what God wants to speak through genealogies also and the purpose behind it. Unfortunately, we have very few expositors. We have many preachers, apostles, prophets and pastors who want to elevate people into glory realms, into ecstasy and hysteria, with no foundation of the Word. Church history teaches us, many theologians, evangelists, bishops, priests and popes became heretics. They were rejected by the Church because they taught things different from the teachings of the Bible.
It is true, like someone else has commented that we should not contain God in the Bible. God is beyond Bible. but remember, there is a purpose God gave us the Bible. There were forces, who tried to burn the scriptures from the early first century. Even the Church before 16th century thought that laymen were not worthy to read Bible and therefore, laymen were not allowed to do so. Translation of the Bible was not allowed, and some people were killed/ martyred for the sole purpose of bringing the Bible into our hands in our mother tongue. There are people still involved in translation ministry. People who are leaving their comfort zones, AC halls, and living among the tribal people and villages, learning their languages and translating the Bible into their languages. And they are not putting efforts to translate merely some portions which you think are the word of God, and leaving out those portions, which are mere history and irrelevant genealogies. They are working hard to present the Bible in its entirety.
Clearly, you have no clue how Bible reached you, the cost many people gave and continue to give, with their sweat and blood. Anyway, like I said, I differ from you because for me- from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 is the Word of God. Not because someone said so, but because it speaks to me. I confess, there are passages, which I do not understand, but I am not perfect and I am still learning. I believe, God will give wisdom to understand those passages as well.

But unfortunately, what you said is not the complete truth, and this is the danger the Church is facing today. Jesus also referred OT Scripture to counter not only religious hypocrites but also Satan. Jesus Himself is the fulfilment of OT prophecy and every OT Scripture points to Him only.
Now will you also explain what does Paul mean when he says to Timothy "All Scripture is God-breathed" (2 Tim 3:16,17). Do you understand the significance of the adjective "all" used infront of the noun Scripture"? There is no doubt, that for Paul, who Himself was a Jew, a Pharisee of Pharisees, student of Gamaliel, Scripture meant the OT in its entirety including the Laws (Pentateuch/ Torah), Writings (Ketuvim) and Prophets (Nevim). For us, the new gen Christians, Bible contains the Word of God, but for Jews, who originally held the OT, the Scripture in its entirety is the Word of God, and that is why Paul says "All Scripture". The very genealogy and numbers that we don't understand in the Pentateuch is considered equally authoritative as the law for Jews and not just selective portions of Torah.
Now as far as the significance of Bible goes, let us learn from Church history. We Christians started the practice of indulgences in the medieval period. This practice was started by the then-spiritual leader of all Christians, Pope Urban II. Later on, this practice was abused by the church and they began to sell indulgences. They lured the people to purchase indulgence which was "a monetary payment of penalty which, supposedly, absolved one of past sins and/or released one from purgatory after death". Poor innocent people who then had no access to the Bible (as laymen were considered unworthy to read and handle the most Holy Word of God), were not aware that they were being exploited by rich religious leaders to build St. Peter's Basilica. Martin Luther, who himself was a Catholic priest, raised questions (not for creating a division, but for a discussion) against the then Bishop. Martin Luther on Oct 31, 1517, posted 95 thesis, which later became a watershed moment in Christian history, leading to Reformation. Ask, Martin Luther, what was the basis for him to question the church. He will respond- The Scripture. Martin Luther, in his personal reading, found that many of the practices in the Church including the sale of indulgences have no Biblical (Scriptural) basis. This is neither the teaching of Jesus nor the Apostles. No Pope can pardon sin, but Jesus alone. Salvation is free. You need not pay money for it. It was this very Scripture that opened the eyes of Martin Luther and many others. You (considering that you are Pentecostal or independent or at least Protestant) and I are the product of this Reformation.
One of the five solas of Reformation is Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone). It was to highlight the authority and significance of Scripture in the Church which was earlier undermined. Because, in those times also people (Priests, Bishops) had claims of revelation and taught the Church many things. The Church moved according to this self-proclaimed revelations and not the Bible. Just as we think today that Reinard Bonke cannot go wrong, Anish Mano cannot go wrong, Finny Stephen cannot go wrong, all fire wings leaders cannot go wrong. Then also, it was said Church leaders, especially Pope cannot go wrong. The words of Pope were considered infallible and more authoritative than the Bible. Is history not repeating today? They also taught many things which is not in the Bible. For the Reformers, like Martin Luther, John Calvin, Ulrich Zwingli, etc., Scripture was the anchor to which they held on when many teachings contrary to the Bible were being introduced in the Church and the poor laymen were being exploited. Another thing that you need to learn from Christian history is that many of the heresies in the Church were introduced by priests, Bishops and Popes. and Same thing is happening today. History repeating itself. At that time also, no believer could question them if they speak anything outside Bible. Today also the same. At that time, also people blindly followed religious leaders, today also the same. Jesus Himself said, blind follow the blind and both fall into a ditch. But there is a difference. in the medieval period and early centuries also, believers did not have access to Scripture. They were dependent on priests. Today, we have Scripture in our hand, in our mother tongue. Still we choose to blindly follow and fall into ditch. If Satan could enter Peter, while he was with Jesus, how much more prone we all are, including the servants of God.
Brother, you have still failed to answer, if not for the Scripture, how will you discern and protect the Church against false teaching and heresy. Remember a south African Christian priest Paul Mackenzie who led over hundred of believers into a jungle promising them to show Jesus. Over 100 people including women and children starved to death. Tell me, if not for Scripture, how will you discern their actions. You know, there is prophet in Punjab. He is very famous. you see him on RUclips and other social media. But no one knows, to meet him for a prayer (as he is a miracle worker) you need to pay 10k to 15k. This is a local testimony from our place.
You are absolutely right. Let us look unto Jesus. But without Scripture, there won't be any Reformation. Instead of looking to Jesus for Salvation, we would still be looking at the Pope for indulgence and for absolution of our penalty.
