A Tribute to John Prine - from his friend Paul Mulligan

- Today to especially mark the first anniversary of the death of late great Country Singer-Songwriter, John Prine, we bring you a beautiful tribute and mini concert to John, from his great friend and accompanist, the Singer - Songwriter Paul Mulligan.
Shot in Paul’s recording studio, in Kinvara, (County Galway), where they both spent many happy hours together making and sharing songs and music, Paul remembers his dear friend and shares with us some of his beautiful memories.
This deeply poignant and heart touching film, has been specially made for ICC Digital. It is Produced by Sé Merry Doyle, in collaboration with the film director Jacqueline Heeley, whose film ‘The Long Way Round’ recently received great praise on ICC Digital.
We hope that you will enjoy this sublime 25 minutes long film.

About Paul Mulligan
Paul Mulligan began his musical journey at the age of fourteen, as soon as he was able to play his first chords on a borrowed plywood guitar. He was seduced into a lifelong love affair with song-writing by listening to the likes of Bob Dylan, Guy Clarke and the legendary John Prine. Although influenced by such American song-writing giants his songs have a distinctly Irish identity.
His debut album "Strong Friend", featured a guest appearance by one of his song-writing heroes John Prine, who also lived in Kinvara (County Galway), and who became a close friend and invited Paul to open some of his shows.
Paul has shared the stages with John Prine, Iris De Ment, Declan O Rourke, Jim Rooney, the late great Philip Donnelly, and Charlie McGettigan . His music has been recorded by Irish singers Eleanor Shanley, Niamh Parsons, Mary Macpartlan (Mojo folk album of the year 2005), by Scottish band ‘Fine Friday’ and by California based singer Sylvia Herold (Cats And Jammers).
Paul was a finalist in the 2012 IMRO Christy Hennessy Memorial song contest with "The One That Got away" which was penned with the legendary American folk artist, producer and songwriter Jim Rooney. His song "Blue Cortina" about his first car was listed in the book "Ford Cortina - A Complete History" by Russell Hayes (Published by Haynes 2012)
Paul lives in Kinvara Co. Galway where he is currently recording a new collection of songs at his “Audiomonkey” studio.

I did not John lived in Galway Ireland. I found John's music about 9yrs ago when I was at home trying to deal with a family tragady. I had heard his song Paradise on a John Denver CD. When I first heard John Prine his songs and music and the way he song them just tuched my heart. I am not surprised he liked Ireland and that Ireland loved him and his music so much. RIP John I wish I had a chance to see you live and to tell you how much your music meant to me. Such a talent and such a nice man.

Wonderful tribute Paul. Just by coincidence I was watching a performance of the Everly Brothers on Des O'Connor, late 1980's I think, and there was Albert Lee and our great Clontarf Cowboy backing them, .
We have lost so so many greats in the last couple of year, its so sad but we all know the certainty of life. Music will outlive us all , so we have been lucky to have lived in a golden era and sometimes shared rooms with the greats. Well done Sir.
