The roads were perfectly good enough for those years of low-volume traffic. We had unmade (gravel) roads throughout all of rural Australia until the 1960's. Some interconnecting roads will not be paved for a further half century in my opinion, nor should they be. Gotta maintain some country romance for day trippers.
it´s Liinahamari, not Liinakhamari. The original name of Liinahamari is Skolt Sámi it was Lin'amraš. Lin means fishing line (longline) and amra = hammer (Norwegian) = mountain reef.
Novadays reindeers have replaced cows lazyli staring passing cars. Also less than 10 years after this film a lot of Lapland was burned down during WW2.

If only they knew what was coming. I'm surprised that the Soviets didn't insist on making it the FSSR after the war. Glad they didn't...
