Update on June 9, 2022 (KST): First of all, I just wanna say thank you all for such kind words and support and the reminders. I’m so glad to be around such lovely people here. Secondly, I made a google slideshow (over)explaining my sexuality (which is that I’m a cupioromantic lesbian) and my mom read it today! She comforted me and just said how she’s glad that I told her (though she might not understand). It was tearful yet relieving situation, and I’m just glad I had people behind my back to give me support throughout this journey.

hello trans guy here! i’m turning 13 soon and this was actually my realisation that i wasn’t comfortable in my own body! i first heard this song a few years ago on a gacha life music video, and after that i really listened to the music and was like “oh yeah i cut my hair super short and i don’t like my chest, ok cool”. i didn’t think of it much then but by the age of 11 i came out to my family :D
to all the other LGBTQ+ youth out there i just wanna say, you’re not alone. if you ever feel like no one cares about you or no one understands you, don’t worry - i care so much about you and i completely understand. it’s ok to not be okay sometimes and whether that may be everyday or just occasionally, you are completely valid. have a great day :)
edit: (this is quite a simplified version of my story, it wasn’t just that i wasn’t comfortable in my own body - i experience gender dysphoria every day and i have been to a therapist about my gender identity. just to clear some things up before anyone accuses me of anything aha)

As a trans male, I’m really scared to tell my parents that I’m trans because my mom supports sexuality things but not non-binary and I’m not sure that she supports me because she found out but still uses she/her pronouns for me, I’m not sure about my stepmom or my dad yet but I’ll wait two years or so. But for anybody that is feeling alone about being trans, non-binary or any sexuality, know you aren’t alone and there will always be people that support you :)
When I hear this I just wanna start crying.
I remember I first heard this back when I was alone at home. My childhood home, which we've had to vacate since then, but when I hear this song I see the place I grew up more clearly than ever.. I must have been 14, 15 back then. Been... quite some years since then.
Hanging on our couch, wondering what love was, why I hate my body. One of the first songs I started to learn on the ukulele.
I've moved far away now, live alone with my partner, even though my asexual ass thought love was gross back then and never expected any of this to happen.
When I first heard this song, I could identify with those lyrics about never falling in love, I remember that.
But cutting my hair, hiding my chest, I didn't even know this was talking about being trans back then, but I felt this so much, more than any song had ever spoken to me. It felt like no one ever dared to be like me in a song. Or... that there was no one like me at all.
All those years have passed now.
This song marks the end of my childhood for me, before I had to start growing up. I was pretty sheltered before. And everything that lead to me and my life today started happening at that age.
Cavetown, thank you for everything.
This one song brings back all my memories much more vividly than I could remember in my own.
I remember the dust on the couch when I hear this. What it smelled like at home. All the decor down to the tiniest detail. How empty it was when my parents weren't there.
The kitchen stuffed to the brim with all kinds of appliances because it was absolutely tiny, the little cat on the kitchen door frame. How I later wondered if my now-partner would be biking over while playing my uke, figuring out my feelings for him.
Trying to figure out singing and actually being proud of myself for the first time in that department.
The texture of the walls.
It all comes back to me. I hope I never forget any of it.
