I started watching IPKKND in 2020 for the first time and I fell in love with Barun instantly even though it took me some time to like ASR. I watched almost all his works like Main Aur Mr. Riight (even though it's not his best), Tu Hai Mera Sunday, and Asur, when it came out, became a treat for me especially because I am a Sobti fan. He doesn't have a lot of interviews and watching him talk candidly is so nice. Brun deserves much more success and recognization than he has right now. Hope to see him more and more on big screens and small screens.

I can't agree more about what Barun said about the Indian TV. It's gonna take centuries of consistently great content to overcome the regressive path Indian TV has set the public to. I think it's an oversight on our parts to give a side pass to TV content when it comes to the effect it has on society! Barun has always been a charming actor but it always great to see what an intelligent and thoughtful person he is. I chose right!😁

People say bollywood is leagues behind from other industries, yes. But our TV industry is at a level right now where it's shameful to even look at it, let alone compare it to others. It really really needs a huge change and that would be harder than we can imagine.

Very well put!! The kinda regressive content tv shows churn out is absolutely incorrigible. Its d channels who have to stick to finite shows to bring good content. But as Barun said everyone wants to make money & doesn't want to experiment.Sad part is fans even today want him to do ipkknd4 and not appreciating the kinda good content he is choosing and doing

For eg: she comes up with paglait, Nagin, k soaps, pyar ki ek kahani, gandi Baat etc depending on the medium and audience. She gets her mass content revenue from gandi Baat/k soaps/kya cool Hain movies and then puts her money into not so conventional but good films like paglait.she knows what to serve to the audience. The audience is as much to blame for the state of TV today. If people consumed good content, people would go out of their way to make them but our audience isn't that. IPKKND ending was heartbreaking when it happened, but it was good for the show. After marriage and Shyam's final reveal, there was no strong reason to keep going, and that was starting to show in the writing. We might have gotten the most perfect ending if things were wrapped up shortly after that. The best parts of this story could have been told in just one year, as Barun wanted. But I would say the show overall was strong until about the last 50 episodes. The last 50 was the breaking point. Also the daily soap format is the WORST. I AM TOTALLY with Barun on that one.

    • @r_r11111

First of all he is not blaming...he is just stating which is truth..he himself said that before few years he wasn't that good about choosing the scripts..but at the same time he doesn't regret any of his work
& about IPK 3 the story was going to be different..i had sense that in first 2 weeks episodes...but it ended up differently...idk why....and what happened to ipk 3 was ... everybody knows that ipk1 show lovers couldn't digest the change which was understandable...but in rage and ego...what damage the audience had done to barun they have no idea about it...in life first time I felt like they just claims to love him but they don't,just DON'T LOVE HIM, they never loved him, all they love is ipk1 and the way it was made..and don't want to see anything else besides that.
and they are still doing bulllshit....good for barun...he needed that reality check... atleast after that he found new layers in himself as an ACTOR. He is rebuilding himself and as a fan I am happy for him.

Loved the iv, love his honesty. I know Barun from IPKKND days and have an idea about the whole ruckus around him leaving the show, which ultimately led to the show being shut down but I was too young/naive back then to understand the reasons for the same. Today, after watching a bunch of other ITV shows over the last decade and knowing how things work over there, I completely understand why he'd want to leave, I mean who wouldn't? I am so glad he chose quality over quantity, and I wish more and more actors would start thinking like him and start choosing projects outside the so called "norms". The kind of regressive content that is being served to us in the name of entertainment needs to go. Barun is right though, it would probably take centuries to get there😂 ITV writing is crap and OTT shows have brought in a wind of change, but even there only a handful of shows actually come up with a properly engaging script. Still a long way to go.
Anyway, all the best to him for his future endeavors. I have watched quite a few of his OTT projects be it a movie or webseries or YT short and I've loved most of them so far, so keep the good work going!

Ipkknd wasn’t like other serials. In fact at that time there were some good light hearted romantic serials where typical family saas bahu toxic drama was less. Those serials attracted youngsters. But soon after that so called romantic dramas started to incorporate toxic family drama especially now bangali serials are being remade.
Now there is a serial called gum hai kisi ke pyar me. Seeing the hype of youngsters I started to watch that. It is a romantic serial but there is no romance at all and full of toxic family drama. Highly depressive. I can’t believe how youngsters are watching that !!

Absolutely phenomenal interview Jammy . One big thing I have to laud you for is the kind of questions you asked Barun Sobti. You are so well informed, respectful and such a terrific listener - we don't get many interviewers who speak without constant interruption so great, great work. Another thing I loved in your questions is you don't ask the actor to agree with your opinion or justify his own, rather you get actual insights which is brilliant. As someone who is a big fan of Sobti due to his television work, it was SO refreshing to find an interview that was a conversation with the actor rather than his characters. I love that you touched on his variety of work as well as framed the questions to have a great discussion on television, writing, OTT/films, biases and more. Can't wait for you to touch a million subscribers - given your style of work it shouldn't be too far!

I always knew the guy was talented. I too was crushed when he decided to quit IPKKND. Crushed! And the struggle that he talks about, there was such a time when my friends and I couldn’t understand why he chose to give up IPK. There was comparisons with Sushant by us because we were like he’s not exactly the Bollywood “hero” material. And he wasn’t doing much to perpetuate that Bollywood side of things like Sushant did. I understood much later what he wanted. Just took him a while to get there. Onwards and upwards! I’m glad he’s found his niche! Hopefully he will be recognised more and will get the work that does his talent justice.

I completely agree with what Barun said about the TV industry. Look at the last few episodes of IPKKND, they were literally saying we want to zabardasti khichofy the show for money. And with IPKKND3, the promos were so amazing but the whole fiasco regarding discontent with having Shivani Tomar literally destroyed the storyline by trying to deviate it and using the typical serial formulae. How awesome would the show have been otherwise! If you read some IPKKND3 fan fictions like Entrapment you would realize what potential the serial had and what shit happened I wish someone would talk about that.

He's right. The biggest problem in our country really is writing.
Small budget movies are better but when they get big budget, they stop making the story look convincing. For example previous 3 Khan's movie, 2.0 & Baahubali 2 end fght which was kind of the worst part of the movie

I didn't know about Barun Sobti until March 2020 because I had never seen a Hindi TV serial, and I must say Barun Sobti completely changed the image I had of a TV star.I watched Tu Hai Mera Sunday and instantly became a fan. Then off course came Asur,Halahal,The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family,Derma,22 Yards and because of him I watched my first Hindi TV serial IPK,and must say I liked it too.More than his performances all these years,I was more impressed by the conviction and perseverance that he showed to do good content. There are many good actors like Vikrant Massey,Sharad Kelkar, Ronit Roy,Radhika Madan who started from TV, but the kind of cult-following both nationally and internationally Barun got from IPK is maddening. That show is still the best show Indian TV has ever seen. And then to show resolve to not milk that kind of fame by doing reality TV and saying no to that kind of money is exceptionally rare.I disagree with Barun when he advocates for TV actors.TV may have good actors but I find most of them as hypocrites. Actors like Nakuul Mehta and Karan Patel who are famous on TV,worked in the same dumb show for 4 yrs and earned crores, amassed a fan-base and brands but now that they are done with it they suddenly get this miraculous epiphany that TV is regressive and daily programming has to change, only now so that they can get a stint on OTT.They spend their time by buffing up, juicing up their insta profile, increasing their brand value instead of working on their craft.

I don't know how I missed this interview a month ago,I mean, I have been a part of your family for months and months now but anyways. Thank you jammy for bringing Barun sobti to our platform. I have to tell u that i am a teenager and only last year I have watched ipkknd, I agree that kids my age don't watch shows like that for many reasons. I won't disagree with them either. But Coming to my point, Barun was my crush first tbh but when I explored the reason for the abrupt ending of the serial I started to know this guy as an actor and as a human being and I must say, he is a hell of a guy. He slays everything he does and his point of view towards content he chooses and life is very rare these days. That's why I have watched his projects and also eagerly waiting for Asur 2. I am proud to say that he is an actor. ❤️

Bro,I admire the fact that you are bringing outsiders. This is the only way we can finish the toxic nepotism debate by giving media coverage to the outsiders and following them on their social media instead of abusing the star kids in the name of these actors, like writing in the comment box of starkids tht barun sobti couldnt be big because of that starkid, inspite of the fact that those people are not following Barun on his social media they are just using his name to release their frustration.Keep bringing good actors on ur channel, good work bro.
