- Trekking in Nepal with Sali, Today I am sharing story of my trekking life story, how I become Sali from Saligram.
Born in remote village of Nepal, and finished the school level in the village than entered the Kathmandu for a better future and further education.

By the time one of my relative recommended me to go on a trekking and make money myself for my further study. then I did my first trekking in nepal to Poonhill in the Annapurna region in 1996 month of march. Don’t ask me how tough it was, doing as trekking porter at the age of 16, carrying about 40kg load on my back on the first trekking for 5 days. And you know what, how much was my salary? it was 80 rupees per day, it wasn’t bad at that time. With 30 rupees we could get good Dal Bhat with chicken.
Finally, I finished my first trekking in Nepal and I made the mind that, this is the first and the last trek. I will never ever go on the trek as a porter again. But once trekking was over, I got USD100 as tips from the clients, you can’t imagine how happy I was. 5 days hard work salary was 400 rupees which were about USD 7 on that time and I got 100 USD tips which I never expected. I felt like I become a rich man in the world my first income 107 USD in 5 days.
When I came back to Kathmandu, I forgot all my hard work and painful trekking days, I saw I could make money from the trekking in Nepal which was much needed for my further study, then I planned to go on trekking again, and even in 2nd trek, I made good money.
I pushed back my study and started doing trekking continuously. I planned to be a trekking guide where I saw my future. To guide my main problem was English as I had zero English. At that time, I was talking English with my head, yes mean head down no means shaking head left-right. Then I started to learn English myself, once I learned a few English, I led the solo trekker as a guide for the first time in 1999, and in 2000 I got the license from the Nepal government and continued guiding, of course, it was a lot easier than doing porter physically. But being a trekking guide also not easy it's tough mentally. Need to look after group and trekking crew, weather condition, sickness issues, few many problems need to face while on the trek.
With passing time, I planned to start my own trekking company, and in 2008 while I was working with another company, I started the process of registering my company named Mountain World Treks and Expedition under the Nepal government, once I finished all my paperwork I resigned from that company where I was working.
Since 2009 I started my own company but still, there was not much business, hardly 3 to 4 trekking groups in a year. it was very tough even to fulfill my basic needs. I kept fighting with myself, worked on website tried to advertise my company, I slowly picked up my business mostly through the recommendation from my previous clients, even being company owner, I loved to go on trekking as a guide and my clients were also happy that company owner is guiding on trekking. I gave my very best to all my clients in every group, and the result came out good, I started getting inquiries continuously. Thanks for the support given by all my clients, Mountain World Treks expanded and now I have 10 guides and about 20 porters working under my company.
