Based on the early statement I'm personally not to psyched that Godzilla and Kong are once again teaming up, while I wasn't big on New Empire but understandable they were getting their feet wet to find a direction after GvK, but I'm against normalizing the team up for another entry as both characters should have dedicated films again so they can have better focus on each character. I see this as playing it too safe and could prevent for more interesting directions they can go.
We will see what happens. All we can say at this point is that those two bring in the crowds. I just hope they move the date so as not to compete with Sonic. He's beaten Marvel, DC, and Disney. That's a pattern that cannot be ignored.

In the GvK artbook, there is a cave painting of what appears to be a winged Gojira specimen attacking both its own kind and the Kongs. Perhaps that creature will be the next monster villain. It probably won't, but I find it fun to imagine Godzilla being confronted with an essential embodiment of his dark side.

We already know the opening credits were a lazy rush job that I think plagiarized some artist's work (but because I'm not sure we'll just say it was so poorly put together, that that was a distinct possibility) With that in mind, how would you (in the space of a few seconds) communicate that Mothra defeated Rodan for two minutes and then died with Rodan coming back to challenge Godzilla but then being the first to bow? It's kind of a copout that Godzilla only really conquered the two MUTOs, Muto Prime, Ghidorah, Scylla, Tiamat, and Amhuluk before GvK, but Rodan and the others bowing is technically the more important event from a history standpoint than the Tiamat fight that nobody saw or MUTO Prime that might not have happened anymore
Rodan challenged Godzilla after Ghidorah's defeat. Godzilla gave him a look and growl as if to say, "Don't even." Rodan surrendered instantly. I'd say that counts.
I watched I Am Mother to see what Grant Sputore is capable of, and I thought it was great movie. That, and this announcement that Legendary will give more attention to characterization, gave me hope. And just to be clear, it's not that the past MV films didn't have characterization to draw from its characters. Watching the films for the monsters and spectacle is one thing, but anyone who pays attention to the writing will tell you there's substance to be drawn. C-Monster Essays and C-Animus did a fine job with that for 2014 and KOTM; FilmSpeak did great with his KSI, G-1, and GXK video essays; you Omni have done a good job at that too with your "Literature Creature | How GODZILLA VS KONG Explores Divinity and Humanity (Literature Devil homage)" and "Godzilla Showdown - Legendary vs Shin" videos for GVK and 2014, and that 4-hour text-to-speech yet in-depth analysis of GXK was pretty good.
Well which characterization though, for the human characters or for Godzilla. And I only say Godzilla because both Adam Wingard and Grant Sputore said that they want this next movie to be more Godzilla focused and if thats true it makes me wonder if their gonna give Godzilla the same treatment that Kong got in GxK (in terms of the visual story telling and showing it from the monsters point of view). 🤔🎞🦖📽🤷♂

MUTO/Skullcrawler hybrid of MASSIVE proportions, like the size of Mt. Everest. So yeah, those are a few of the global threat titans I'd love to see in this upcoming film, will any of these make it on? Probably not, who knows? As for ally Titans: 1. i have to be honest here: new empire may be old news by now, but i still haven't made up my mind about watching it. the plots of the films seem to be less and less cohesive and focused. monarch on the other hand, has better writing. i'm very fond of the hollow earth concept, but i think that it would have been done better with tighter plotting, that actually calls for LESS monsters. instead, the writing should give more space to the development of the main ones. an opportunity was missed, if you ask me, to divide the series into different story arcs: 1: skull island 2: a godzilla story in the past 3: king kong and godzilla in the hollow earth in the past the second series would have been about godzilla fighting a larger number of monsters but that would be the theme. since we may well reach a third trilogy, that would focus again on the hollow earth.
I’m not entirely excited for yet another Godzilla and Kong teamup film, as I would’ve liked to have solo films to grow each character and tackle onto ideas. Hopefully this film will do well, perhaps that’ll be the case. Legendary should move the release date as Sonic has beaten big companies like DC, Marvel, and Disney. Jia could easily take a film off. We don't want a Miki Saegusa in Godzilla vs Mothra scenario where she has nothing to do. Suko kind of supplants Jia's role for Kong, and Mothra literally just flew deeper into Hollow Earth (meaning neither she, the Iwi or Jia probably are relevant). The most important stakes going on are that the entire world is going to hate Monarch again after failing to evacuate major cities, and their PR liaison Andrews chose to stay in HE rather than jump on the story (only Trapper goes back home at the end of GxK) before it gets spun against her, and we don't need Andrews for that either since she already caused that nightmare that will snowball out of her control

Homer's epic poem has been told before in films and TV. It is a story Ray Harryhausen wanted to tackle but sadly, that never came to fruition. Cautiously optimistic. For me, Nolan's career has been rather uneven. "Oppenheimer", yes, "Tenet", not so much.

Absorb what we got and appreciate it before we start looking to the future. Believe me, I'm no fan of long-waits between sequels, but I feel like having four years to appreciate the Dark Knight was part of why the Dark Knight Rises was so anticipated.

Methuselah is unlikely, he's under Legal Arrest, A rival Monster Designing Company called Kaiju Summit sued Legendary for ripping of one of their own Monsters called Batholith, and due to a legal case that was held, Legendary lost and they can't use Methuselah anymore, his design is too similar to Kaiju Summit's monster.

I remember that before Godzilla: King of the Monsters came out, some people thought Methuselah actually was Anguirus from what little of him was shown in the trailers.
Outside of that one episode of Godzilla: The Series, he's never had a proper love interest (I don't believe Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster counts). In my head I ship him together with Ogra. Gorgo and Minilla become stepbrothers.
There's only one kaiju that can be brought in that could expand the fan base or bring in new fans and that's Gamera. That's not going to happen in the next movie... maybe later. Every other kaiju would be brought in for the current fans. Bring in a giant turtle, put him in a lot of advertising and bingo... you have new fans.
Why give the humans more focus? Toho has been doing character focused storys ever since shin godzilla gave them permanent "shin worked so everything has to be like shin"-damage. Shin Godzilla? Pretentious garbage. Anime Triology? Pretentious garbage. Singular Point? Pretentious garbage. They All followed the same concept of focus on characters that are as interessting as card board cut-outs and have little to no focus on the actual main character, Godzilla himself, I don´t watch a godzilla movie so that the Main Title Character can be a footnote in his own story, heck that´s why the heisei era is regarded in such high regard in the fandom at large, these movies understood that godzilla Is the Main Character and must be treated as such. Right now every movie toho has released feels more like they are catfishing the audience into watching "Insert any Topic" Post Wolrd War 2, Post World Destruction, Post Current Catastrophic Event that happens to have godzilla in it. And now Minus One happend, a good movie through and through i can´t deny it, but WHY have godzilla in it, if he barely shows up and just serves as a "everything wrong in the world/white whale"-monster that must be stopped how is this any different from any other monster movie? This movie could have had any monster in it and would have still worked. So what now? Well MInus One won an award and gained world wide recogintion as one of the best "Godzilla"-movies ever made, A movie that couldn´t care less about godzilla. Here we are now post minus one with Legendary wanting to make a "serious"-movie that´s focuses more on the human side, bringing the attention back where it belongs... And Now we start All Over Again... Monstervers got where it is now due to Adam Winguard, love or hate him, he understood that the Kaiju are the Main-Characters and that once it´s all said and done it´s their storys that are still rememberd till this day cause after all we come to monster movies for the monsters.
I definitely watch a monster movie for the monsters. I have hundreds of other movies if i want to see human characters. But because so many Minus One dickriders complained about bad human characters i fear that we'll get a movie that'll try to follow in MO's footsteps and focus more on humans. But since human characters are likely not gonna live up to the expectations, everyone will just go back to complaining that there's not enough monsters. God these people suck at criticizing. And they'll just keep ignoring the fact that Minus One and Monsterverse movies are different types of movies and try to force everyone to agree that Monsterverse movies all suck.
I pretty much agree with all of that, but I have grown very familiar with this frustration. Toho has always treated Godzilla like a prop instead of as a character, probably because that is all he really represents to them. The strict mandates they place on what Godzilla can and cannot do, while I agree they should exist, also represent how entrenched their perspective is on their "Intellectual Property." It's actually fascinating watching the filmmakers of the Monsterverse and even "Minus One" wrestle with those limitations and smuggle in moments of character for the King of the Monsters, when any other fictional creature would be flooded with characterization by the technicians and filmmakers. I had hopes that maybe this new Monsterverse film would finally give us a film where Godzilla is the A-Plot, that same way Kong has been in the last two films, but this news makes that seem very unlikely. Even so, there is still a chance that could happen and even if it doesn't, it is still possible this could turn out to be one of the better (if not the best) films in the Monsterverse. In any case... "No matter what happens, Godzilla will live."

Believe me, I'm no fan of long-waits between sequels, but I feel like having four years to appreciate the Dark Knight was part of why the Dark Knight Rises was so anticipated.

I'd like to see Behemoth and Methuselah get in on the fight action as well as the return of Rodan.
Methuselah is unlikely, he's under Legal Arrest, A rival Monster Designing Company called Kaiju Summit sued Legendary for ripping of one of their own Monsters called Batholith, and due to a legal case that was held, Legendary lost and they can't use Methuselah anymore, his design is too similar to Kaiju Summit's monster.

I remember that before Godzilla: King of the Monsters came out, some people thought Methuselah actually was Anguirus from what little of him was shown in the trailers.

Outside of that one episode of Godzilla: The Series, he's never had a proper love interest (I don't believe Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster counts). In my head I ship him together with Ogra. Gorgo and Minilla become stepbrothers.

There's only one kaiju that can be brought in that could expand the fan base or bring in new fans and that's Gamera. That's not going to happen in the next movie... maybe later. Every other kaiju would be brought in for the current fans. Bring in a giant turtle, put him in a lot of advertising and bingo... you have new fans.
You've also forgot how ugly & unconvincing the CGI has became since 2019....
Why give the humans more focus? Toho has been doing character focused storys ever since shin godzilla gave them permanent "shin worked so everything has to be like shin"-damage.
Shin Godzilla? Pretentious garbage.
Anime Triology? Pretentious garbage.
Singular Point? Pretentious garbage.
They All followed the same concept of focus on characters that are as interessting as card board cut-outs and have little to no focus on the actual main character, Godzilla himself,
I don´t watch a godzilla movie so that the Main Title Character can be a footnote in his own story, heck that´s why the heisei era is regarded in such high regard in the fandom at large, these movies understood that godzilla Is the Main Character and must be treated as such.
Right now every movie toho has released feels more like they are catfishing the audience into watching "Insert any Topic" Post Wolrd War 2, Post World Destruction, Post Current Catastrophic Event that happens to have godzilla in it.
And now Minus One happend, a good movie through and through i can´t deny it, but WHY have godzilla in it, if he barely shows up and just serves as a "everything wrong in the world/white whale"-monster that must be stopped how is this any different from any other monster movie? This movie could have had any monster in it and would have still worked.
So what now? Well MInus One won an award and gained world wide recogintion as one of the best "Godzilla"-movies ever made, A movie that couldn´t care less about godzilla.
Here we are now post minus one with Legendary wanting to make a "serious"-movie that´s focuses more on the human side, bringing the attention back where it belongs...
And Now we start All Over Again... Monstervers got where it is now due to Adam Winguard, love or hate him, he understood that the Kaiju are the Main-Characters and that once it´s all said and done it´s their storys that are still rememberd till this day cause after all we come to monster movies for the monsters.
I definitely watch a monster movie for the monsters. I have hundreds of other movies if i want to see human characters.
But because so many Minus One dickriders complained about bad human characters i fear that we'll get a movie that'll try to follow in MO's footsteps and focus more on humans. But since human characters are likely not gonna live up to the expectations, everyone will just go back to complaining that there's not enough monsters.
God these people suck at criticizing. And they'll just keep ignoring the fact that Minus One and Monsterverse movies are different types of movies and try to force everyone to agree that Monsterverse movies all suck.

I pretty much agree with all of that, but I have grown very familiar with this frustration.
Toho has always treated Godzilla like a prop instead of as a character, probably because that is all he really represents to them. The strict mandates they place on what Godzilla can and cannot do, while I agree they should exist, also represent how entrenched their perspective is on their "Intellectual Property."
It's actually fascinating watching the filmmakers of the Monsterverse and even "Minus One" wrestle with those limitations and smuggle in moments of character for the King of the Monsters, when any other fictional creature would be flooded with characterization by the technicians and filmmakers.
I had hopes that maybe this new Monsterverse film would finally give us a film where Godzilla is the A-Plot, that same way Kong has been in the last two films, but this news makes that seem very unlikely. Even so, there is still a chance that could happen and even if it doesn't, it is still possible this could turn out to be one of the better (if not the best) films in the Monsterverse.
In any case... "No matter what happens, Godzilla will live."
