This song just grabs me by the throat and pulls me in. Nothing else exists until it's over. Even then, I feel drained. The sheer beauty of this man and (of course) his voice is that there was always ZERO ego. He just loved to sing, loved to please his audience, and flawlessly immersed himself in EVERY song he sang. There hasn't been any performer since who even comes close, in voice, performance, compassion for the song, and love for the audience. R.I.P. Terry Parsons. Our lives have been immeasurably blessed by your voice, by your dignity, and by your stature.
I had the pleasure of seeing Matt Monro live in London in 1964 - he was amazing. My all time favs are Walk Away and Softly. He was the consummate performer!!
He sings this song so perfectly. His voice is so pure and that's the kind of voice this song needs to have. Incredible song with such hauntingly sad words...
imo Matt was simply the best. For a number of reasons. Talent, Charm, Charisma, Stage Presence. He was much more than a Wonderful Singer, He was a .......STAR During my life I have been fortunate to have seen loads of the Big Stars from the 50/60s live. I enjoyed and still do the British Beat Music of the 60s, however my All Time Favourite is/was Matt. Any praise of him is a complete understatement.............
Walk Away . . . Timeless, priceless, brilliant masterpiece! Thanks Don Black for the emotionally beautiful lyrics. An incredibly stunning vocal performance from dearly beloved Matt Monro, the greatest voice I've ever heard. Thanks for uploading this classic piece. A treasure kept in our hearts forever. . .
Incredibly intense emotion felt when I hear this song. It encapsulates love and loss at the same time. Awesome is a word too frequently used today, but this song and performance warrants it.
I'm grateful to you for uploading this! TREASURE! Thank you! Never was there a more exquisite singing/performing of any music. Matt Monro is and shall remain the greatest.
I dream of waking up some morning to find a tsunami of societal shift in musical taste where the masses would willingly listen to, love, appreciate, & rediscover the likes of Terry Parsons. Where I wouldn't be the one tenth of one percent that remembers, appreciates, and plays his songs repeatedly. Only then would the likes of his talent, stage presence, impeccable appearance, and love of performing become immortal. God has blessed us beyond measure with Monro's short tenure on this island Earth.
Such a great singer and a lovely man.He lived near us in Ealing and it's so sad he was taken so early but he has left a wonderful legacy in his recordings.
I used to listen to him in the '70's and just loved his wonderful voice and now 40 years later when I listen to him, all the memories come back and the tears.
I listened to him on the radio in 65 I Think! When I returned from Nam in 69 I never heard him again I asked the old heads at work during the 80s & 90s about Him. They said he didn't exist VAUGHN MONROE, and another but no MATT MONRO. I Said he was Smooth as Silk! Smoother than "Sinatra & Nat King Cole! I learned in the 90s on the Radio Before the Internet, He did exist, His career had been cut Tragically short. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever! THANKS"
This is one of my all time favourite records in the entire world. I'm 48, a huge Beatles fan & love so many artists, contemporary, past greats and all in between - Matt Monro will always be in my desert island discs. I still cherish the 7inch Parolphone single of Walk Away which I grew up with since 1964. He was a favourite of my beloved Dad too. Both forever young and loved.
When I was performing, I was inspired by Matt's version of this song, to include it in my act. I thank Matt for this, as it was great crowd-pleaser. Matt, may you R.I.P.
the trouble is matt walked away from this earth far too soon, one my old mates always sang this in the pub yrs ago, like matt hes gone too, now i sing this all the time, in memory of both of them, had he lived, matt would be 80 now, but the velvet voice is no more, except for these sites, thank god for you tube ,and matt
What a voice, soft and soothing yet very powerful. When you hear this song in this voice it just bring you back to the time and place when you first heard Matt Monro's music. I wish he made more songs, but he was taken away from us so early. The songs he made are just very special and very timeless. I keep on listening to it when ever I have a chance. Thank you Mr. Monro.
Such a shame that Matt was never really appreciated as much in his own country, as he was around the rest of the world. Never had a U.K number one. It's that old thing, of only appreciating something when it's gone and you miss it. Rightly regarded now as the greatest popular singer this country ever produced.
Oh how I remember my mom when I hear this song. These were the golden years of gentleness and romance. Lovely memories. I'm mesmerized by Matt Monro's voice. So smooth.
My dead father used to play this song when I was growing up in Hawaii. I was 5 at that time. When I was station in Iraq last year, my old platoon ssgt. played it on his radio and boom, it reminds me all of a sudden that this was my dad's favorite song growing up. I think he played this song like 1000 times. For some old fart, this song means a lot to them. For me, I see a unique talent in Matt Monro. I'm a music connoiseur.
I am completely mesmerized by the beauty of this song and have been since I lived in England. I am now 69 and still can't get enough of it. He and his voice ARE greatly missed.
What a powerfull song. Matt always make you feel that what he sings is really happening. Matt you were simply the best. I was 14 and I had a crush on a girl at school in the sixties that did not work out. This song came out at the time. I felt it matched how I was feeling.
Yes, it was so very lonely, cause Matt Monroe was too young died at age 54 yrs old :( :( Sometimes, i was thingking that, . when we gonna have a Matt Monroe again in this world ? And you are loved of all filipinos in the Philippines especially :) We miss u so much Mr. Matt Monroe, all the best is in you :)
My number one of all songs! Matt said it all. You will never believe me! But this guy is my Hero. Number one in every song that was ever sung. How would you know? I don't care....
Caught Matt Monro in Hong Kong in 1973, at the Eagle's Nest. With his smooth voice and easy manner he had complete control of the audience. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
It is just recently I come to like this song altho I have been a great fan of him since he visited Manila, Philippines. As a hobby, and non-professionally, I sung many of his songs on occasional volunteer works.Thank you for sharing
My hubby sung this song to his Dad shortly before he died, he passed away his self 2015 I cry every time I hear it. Matt was the best perfect timing perfect in every way we loved him.
I'm coming up 82 this year and this man had such clarity in his voice and diction - Listen to his records and even sing some of his greatest - such as " I Believe" and "strangers in the night"
I love this so much... what a voice,,, and indeed, the original was sung by Udo Jurgens. A great singer from Ostria, by the way, and then it was `Warum nur Warum`
i must say Mr.Velasco is right..we Filipinos highly appreciates Matts songs..we are romantics, though not rich in material things,,weve learned to enjoy the simple things we have in life,,Matts songs is one of them..Cheers to you ..Mabuhay.
What a wonderful voice! May I suggest the CD Hooray for Love. It is a compilation of great male singers. Matt sings I Get Along Without You Very Well, and it is true perfection. Cuts by the other men, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, Dean Martin, etc., are also great. It can be purchased on Amazon. Truly, it's a treaure!
This is not only my favorite song by my favorite singer, Matt Monro, but it is also my favorite song by my favorite lyricist, Don Black."Born Free," "Tell Me On a Sunday," "On Days Like These (Theme from The Italian Job"), "Ben," "To Sir, With Love." If you want to hear a real treat, check out another Don Black lyric re-work based on Udo Jurgens' "Greihischer Wein (Greek Wine)" that Don Black transformed into "Come Share the Wine." by Al Martino. It's beautiful!
Matt Monroe has a million voters as a great singer , Until now u are talk of the town because of your fantastic voice and your great, great song in the world :)
Funny...the songs we remember from childhood before we even know what true love is or how much it hurts to lose it. I was humming this song and mumbling the lyrics before I was ten...I'm sure. :-)
Matt surpasses all other singers in terms of popularity in the Philippines. His music is a favorite in karaoke bars even today. Some even get mugged when they cannot give justice to his songs. Hats off to England here for producing a lot of great singers like Matt, Tom Jones, Engelbert, Cliff, Beatles, etc. That's something you can be really proud of. They are musisc's icons with great talent and originality at par or in many ways better than their American counterparts.
Two masters: Udo Jurgens, who wrote the song and won the 1966, Euro award, and Matt Monroe, who recorded this beautiful song in English. Thank you gentlemen!
Tons of memory on this song... 28 yrs ago....... OMG.. I could scream...!
What a fantastic sound. Cannot help listening to him - over and over. RIP Matt....

Pure gold, pure romance. Pure sentiment. Not like the rubbish and muck of today's
contemporary swill. Powerful lyrics for us plus 55 crowd.

at least say goodbye, just don't walk away... nice and meaningful song i love it so much.
one of his best records ever
Matt Monro is definitely my favourite crooner, Bobby Darin is my favourite swinger😉. I have loved Monro's voice since I was a child.
First time I heard this song when I was four . Now I am 49 !
Matt Munroe was once described as the man with the velvet voice ( or words to that effect ) by none other than one Frank Sinatra. Praise indeed
Best singer ever.
Sem dúvida uma das mais belas canções de todos os tempos, letra e musica lindíssimas, emocionante interpretação desse fenomeno musical.
oh dear.-..tears in my eyes, I know...that oh soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.... LOVE ENGLAND..... Greetings sad heart...Gurli from Denmark
Two masters: Udo Jurgens, who wrote the song and won the 1966, Euro award, and Matt Monroe, who recorded this beautiful song in English. Thank you gentlemen!
Small differences between this…and the version I remember from the pop charts convinces me that the vocal was a live performance
