I’d watch a animated series about a group of misfit pirates that sing a minimum of one song per episode about the zany adventures they get caught up in.
Here is my take on the characters' design: 1. Antony is the most experienced sailor on this ship. He is very familiar with knots and sails. Very optimistic and has a positive point of view all the time. 2. Nate is the literate one here. Knows more than two languages. Knows astronomy, geomatics, geography, etc. Has a high taste in literally everything. 3. Johnathan is the captain. Very serious and poker face all the time. Very good leader and knows how to give the right orders in the tightest situations. 4. Caleb is the captain's right hand. The one who accompanied the captain in all of his travels. The captain trusts him the most. He takes care of the things that bother the captain. Would sacrifice himself for the captain and his crew. 5. Pellek is the fresh one. A young man living his dream to sail away and travel the world and the seven seas. He has a lot to learn but he is a fast learner and adapted very quickly to the life of a sailor.
I noticed that too, Except Jon's but for everyone elses' their voices were in the background but when each of them had their small solo in the chorus that person's voice was louder, like Pellek's or Nate's
Though it's subtle, I appreciate how the mixing took whoever sang the last verse and amplifies their voice just a little bit louder than everyone else's during the chorus. Nicely done!
@@Lycan9666 I think they meant "last verse" as in the one that was just sang, not the very last verse/chorus of the entire song. E.g. if you listen to the verse that starts at 0:55, the same person who sings this has a more amplified voice in the chorus following that part (verse ends at 1:02, chorus starts at 1:03, for ref) than they had in the previous chorus :)

ALRIGHT HERE'S WHO I THINK WOULD BE WHO Caleb: The main character's closest confidant, I see him as possibly the brother to the main character and always there to defend them. No matter the struggle, Caleb will always be there, full of confidence the crew can defeat the odds. Anthony: Anthony I imagine to be the fun crewmate, always starting the shanties as well as drinking on the job (occasionally), but in situations of life and death, he'll fight full of heart because he knows the crew is a family to him. Jonathon: Definitely the captain that is hard and cold to the main character, but soon they begin to warm up, and he even joins in on the sea shanties and gives the crew his wisdom. Might die during it and make the main character the captain. Pellek: The crewmate who is the captain's most trusted, a hearty soldier in war, and also a good friend to trust. Always putting the crew ahead of himself, might even be hiding something which he thinks is good to hide. Nate: Nate is the youngest crewmember, always being there to lend a helping hand while he still learns the ropes. A possible candidate for the main character. I'm back in my pirate phase because of this.
I genuinely believe anyone can make a show with compelling characters and cool story based on these designs alone. They're real people who already look cool as hell, but stylized, it's awesome.
Disney could make a pirate tv-series based off this. With all these guys as voice actors for the show. Im imagining pirates of the caribbean, but for kids and with sea shanties ^^

For those that do not know the meaning of this song and probably I do not know it correctly too, but I recall a documentary - back in the day sailors would be paid in sugar or rum, tea and of course money. Because the sailors would often work in places were money had no meaning as they could not really spend it, it was those things (sugar, rum, tea etc.) they waited the most for. And because the company was called Weller brothers, probably the song developed into something else - waiting for a ship called wellerman. Hence they would wait for that ship that would come and pay their wages and would sing it to raise morale. Back then you also would sing songs that gave your rhythm to do certain things on the ship and synchronize certain tasks, those songs were then called shanties. Shanties really were the work songs, while a song like this would be called something else most likely, but I do not recall the name.

Many people are talking about this being an animated series-I imagine this song as the series’ opening. It opens on Caleb with his parrot, in the crows nest, looking around through the spyglass maybe tossing it around a bit, and at the end of his first verse his parrot takes off from his shoulder and the camera follows it to each of the other crew members in turn, with whatever they’re getting up to. For his verse, I picture the parrot finds Anthony flirting with a bunch of girls in the port before the parrot seems to insult one of the women (presumably in Anthony’s voice,) causing her to slap him at the end of his verse, and during the chorus the parrot tugs on his collar to lead him back to the ship, and he grumpily sighs and complies. Then the parrot swoops through a window into the darker captain’s quarters to find Jonathan, looking over a map or a letter or something, which, at the end of his verse, he either stabs with a dagger on a big red X (if a map) or stamps with a wax seal (if it’s a letter). Pellek (1st mate) is in the scene during Jonathan’s verse, and while it transitions to his, the parrot alights on his shoulder as he exits the cabin to follow some order and/or otherwise directing people on the ship as they appear to prepare the boat for sailing, and as he passes Nate, who is slacking off at his post or otherwise breaking a rule, Pellek smacks him with his sheathed saber at the end of his verse to get him in line. (I picture Pellek as the 1st mate AND Quartermaster, sue me). After pouting/acting all irritated at the start of the chorus leading to his verse, Nate gets back to his job, scaling the ropes like a spider monkey and helping to untie the sails while the anchor is hoisted beneath him. At the end of his verse/getting into the chorus, he takes a daring leap off the sails to surf down the fabric (the parrot racing him) after which the camera follows the parrot back to Caleb, who has made his way to the bowsprit (the front of the boat where they put the carved ladies or whatever) where he belts out the end of the song looking like Quasimodo in “Out There,” as the ship is sailing out to sea and the rest of the main cast gather at the front of the ship as well, albeit a bit less dramatically, and sure enough, right at the pause before the very end, Caleb slips and almost falls, before one or two of the others grab a hold of him, and they sing the final note as the title card appears.
Positions as I see them: Caleb: POV protagonist; either the sailing master (navigator) or master carpenter/surgeon. Might also be funny if he joins on as the cook and then proves himself to have the talent for one of the above jobs. Joined for some selfless yet still personal reason. His predecessor met some fate shortly before Caleb showed up; said fate is often alluded to yet humorously unclear. Anthony: master gunner (in charge of guns/cannons/ammo), and master flirt. But if necessary he can help out with almost any other job (except surgeon. Anthony says fuck that.) He wields a blunderbuss (google it, big pirate gun) Pellek: as stated, 1st mate and Quartermaster (in charge of maintaining order/discipline, but was also the go-between for the lower ranks and the captain-so, total oldest brother energy.) Note: I could also see Pellek as sailmaster and Anthony as 1st mate, but we’d still need a master gunner. Jonathan: Captain. Just-It’s the hat. He’s looking for a specific treasure hoard. I think we’re all in agreement. Nate: long ago, stowed away as a cabin boy or sailor but was quickly found out as a runaway aristocrat kid cause that boy was socially SHELTERED. But, his fancy tutoring and his talent for acrobatics (read: lack of proper fear response) made him an ideal sail master and/or boatswain (managing supplies and maintenance (including money) and helping direct orders for the general running of the ship-tho I feel like most of that last responsibility would fall to Pellek. Nate has a certain affinity/talent for ropes and knots; he can fix snags or tangles faster than most, and has no problem going up super high to fix things. He likes manipulating the ropes as his main way of getting around the ship.)

Everyone’s writing backstories for the characters so imma take a shot at it. (Feedback is welcome-) Caleb’s character- The main protagonist. He’s a happy go lucky man who comes from a dull part of the island he was born on. He dreams of becoming a well known pirate and wants to find legendary treasures and potentially help his community out. But he knows he can’t do it alone so, along with his parrot Percy, (I somehow hope someone will get the reference) Caleb sets out to find a crew to go on adventures with. Anthony’s character- The childhood best friend. Anthony is the spunky and outgoing friend of Caleb who loves to pull pranks on others. He was born on the same island as Caleb and they grew up together but grew apart due to family matters and him starting to get interested in mineral study. They meet again in a bar and during their reunion, Caleb tells Anthony about his plans. Anthony gladly accepts for the adventure and to learn more about the treasures and what comes before it. Pellek’s character- Pellek is already the charismatic captain of another crew. Caleb and Anthony find his crew in the middle of a pillage. It takes a little while to convince Pellek to leave his crew behind, but knowing that the treasures could make him and his own crew wealthy, he joins in and leaves his right hand person in charge. He soon however learns the value of friends is greater than riches and his morals start to shift. Nathan’s character- Nathan is a nimble and resourceful outlaw trying to survive on the streets. He accidentally runs into the crew while trying to outrun the law and the crew helps him hide. Not sure why he was running from guards, the group asks. Nate just claims he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. He asked the crew what they were doing and they explain. Caleb asks if he wants to join. Both Nate and Anthony are weary of the situation. But with time running low, he joins the crew. Unknown to them however, the real reason why Nate is an outlaw is because he is secretly a half merman and this secret progressively gets harder to keep from his newly found crew. Jonathan’s character- Jonathan is a stoic figure who keeps his feelings close to the chest. When the crew tries to get a boat, Jonathan volunteers to give them said boat on one condition: he joins them in looking for the treasure. Caleb agreed while the rest also agrees (but they are a bit sus. I head canon Nate’s the most sus.) Unknown to any of them is that Jonathan is the son of a feared pirate who was tasked to retrieve a particular and powerful legendary treasure long ago. Jonathan’s father passed this mission on to Jonathan and he intends on finishing what his father started under any means necessary... (But of course he gets a redemption arc (: ) (Edit: This is getting a lot more attention than I thought it would...thank you guys for all of the love!)
No. This is the real stuff. Not Hollywood superficial, other-cultures-stealing, money grabbing cheap fantasy. Real sailors sang this. There is hunger, there is exhaustion, there is real (unknown to rich people) labor here. This is why this is good.

so, guys, some very imaginative and awesome people have been making their own assumptions about the pirate crew in the comments, making up personalities and all the great stuff, and i'd like to humbly contribute with my own ideas. i don't know nothing about the personality of the guys that are singing IRL, i just will come up with stuff that i presume from the vibes of the characters in the drawings and take some of the great ideas on other comments and implement them here. my english is broken but my creativity knows no boundaries, so i hope you enjoy! Caleb: probably the main character of the story. is younger than he seems to be due to the beard and is very passionate about everything. maybe he can have that Shonen Protag vibe, the very positive and also impulsive character that began from nothing and wants to reach greatness, i don't know. he never really explained to anyone how he got his parrot and always comes up with absurd stories about it, it's a joke among the crew. wholesome 200% of the time. great swordfighter. Anthony: the first mate. a trickster and a thief, great at taking things from people without leting them notice (if there's a prettier name for that i don't know). is very good at acrobacies, enjoys swinging through the ropes and sails of the ship and is also great at the usage of daggers. he likes to get drunk and gets in and out of trouble real well through his silver tongue. seems careless and treacherous but is good-hearted and a loyal friend. gained the nickname "10 seconds anthony" for sinking a ship in 10 seconds flat. (hope you don't mind me, steve schultz) Jonathan: the very serious, mature and stoic captain that probably will die in the end. seems aloof and strict but deep down cares a lot about each member of his crew and always makes sure to help them when they need, but you DON'T want to see him mad. no one knows much about his past, but he always seems to be hiding something that makes him... guilty? maybe we will find out one day. Pellek: older and more mature than he seems to be, he's the son of an old member of the crew that died in battle and that maybe made jonathan swear to take care of him (sorry, i know that's a bit cliche but i love a well-used trope). a very centred and not all that violent soul that has a fascination for maps, being the responsable for courses and routes, and is great at advices, but that also knows how to use a sword. there probably is a very funny "brotherly" chemestry among him, Caleb and Anthony, Anthony being the funny and troublemaker older bro, Caleb being the easily excited and bubbly middle bro and Pellek being the smarter and careful younger bro that tries to avoid trouble but always ends up in the middle of the mess. Nate: son of the high society, he decided at a young age that the life that was planned to him wasn't the one he wanted to live, so he ran away and sneaked into the ship when he was 15. when he was found, the captain decided he could stay, but only if he did various hard chores for weeks. nate endured it and slowly became a part of the family. the good education he recieved on his youth made him become the treasurer of the ship.

Here's my ideas, left to right. 1: An outgoing pillager, however not lazy. He's a big fan of playing games with the rest of the ship members. 2: A gold-snatching anarchist, the most sarcastic of the team, keeping his eye on his gold and other's gold. The captain keeps a close eye on this loose cannon. 3: A formidable captain, doing anything to keep his ship afloat. Does enjoy playing the pillager's games in his freetime. 4: The pirate trainer, putting their ship members through rigorous training sessions to put them in their best form possible. Big fan of parrots. 5: The seducer, able to sweet talk out of many situations, but will get his hands dirty if needed. He enjoys messing with the captain and the pillager.
Caleb: The main character, he woke up shipwrecked on a deserted island. He joined a ramshackle crew consisting of the other characters to get home. That parrot has stuck with him since the shipwreck. Serves him well as the lookout. Anthony: An islander who serves as the first mate. The funny one who will always have a witty comeback, if a shanty breaks out onboard, he's the one leading it. He has a habit of getting drunk at any opportunity. Gained the nickname "10 Seconds Anthony" for sinking a ship in 10 seconds flat. Jonathan: The captain. Trusts Anthony with his life. The whole crew knows that something happened to Captain Young, but not even Anthony knows. Pellek: A bored aristocrat who turned to a life as a pirate. Pellek is a hardy solider in war, but don't expect him to get anywhere near a barrel of gunpowder. Stain his suit and you'll never hear the end of it. Nate: The ship's treasurer. He's in it for the treasure. He has a high chance of getting convinced by the villains to betray his crew, but he'll realize how much he's hurting the closest to family he's gotten and stop. He shall be forgiven. Eventually.

Great swordfighter, even though most of the time he's gonna be teasing the opponent if it's not someone on his crew. > Pellek is second in command, so he's stricter as a friend and mostly keeps Caleb from accidentally falling overboard or being entranced by sirens. Headcanon that Pellek doesn't sing often but in things like this he's amazing. Another headcanon, on the Christmas special episode, he's the one who got Caleb a parrot friend but never admitted it. Can swim gracefully. > Nate is that best friend type character. In fight scenes with other ships, he and Caleb are fighting alongside each other. Nate is also probably the one who really wants the treasure, but that's mainly something added for comic relief so he isn't always just clinging on to Caleb as a best friend. Headcanon that Nate is the only one with kept hair, having no beard and less messy hair. He seems to be less mature and at the same time more mature than Caleb. Less mature in antics but in swordsmanship so mature. Can swim, and would definitely have a fake shark fin. Johnathan is a mentor and captain. Will die sometime in the show. Has to for plot and character development. While only taller than Caleb, he wears them platform boots and is then taller than everyone. While he's strict, but not excessive like Pellek sometimes, he does care for the crew. He already has some character to him. A past that will be revealed later, like beef with other crews, or why is he so serious about certain things that the others aren't serious with. ---------- this song is used as end credits, but like, in a remixed version. After that, it's just the instrumentals. for those thinking the girls should sing this, they do. they're the rivals. Sorta. During one episode, another ship, yes a third ship, kidnaps one of the ladies' crew and Caleb, holding them fer ransom. The two crews have to work together and save both of them, without paying the ransom because what pirate pays the ransom? A season finale would be special in which they've finally closed the plot, Johnathan is probably dead, but his spirit is there just vibing with other pirate spirits as both crews vibe, party, and drink into the night. are we writing the whole plot? no, not here. --------- Edit: Okay, so if you guys would like to start a series, we could but we'd need the guys themselves to want to be in a series as well. We need to figure out where this is going to end, where it's gonna start, and how to plan out the episodes from start to finish so it's not repetitive but you can still follow it. Characters should be mainly based on the people themselves and these comments. If the girls do their own cover, which would be nice but don't force it, we got another pirate crew. We would need writers, storyboard artists, people to choreograph fight scenes, those that know how pirate crew roles work, we would need a theme song, credits, background music, SFX, character designers, producers, and funding. Hm, as for the fps, that's on whoever is doing the animation. We would need original songs for antagonists, protagonists, etc. We would need a pilot episode. and most of all, we need hope that one of these guys will see this.
wow. i'm literally impressed. as you can tell i'm the most present person on the comments of this trend and this characters have been on mind for a while, and i can tell all you wrote is spot-on and perfect. the idea of pellek having an awesome singing voice but being shy about it is great. anthony and nate are great too, and Captain Jonathan gracefully fighting in plataform boots is priceless. also, thank you for your contributions to the plot, i had been needing some ideas for it! i can imagine the first episodes flowing in a way that the external conflit ties in with some internal conflit of a member of the crew, giving a chance for caleb and the viewer to know each crewmember better. the same thing could happen in parallel with the girls' crew. about the girls, the ideas about them and having these two crews that in the beginning would kinda hate each other have to work together is really clever! maybe in the process of the end of the first season, a member of each crew could die and they could become kind of friends? don't know, we are basing ourselves on the assumption that the girls WILL make their version of this... anyway, hopefully if we ever make this into a show (it won't happen but let me dream, ok?) we can mix my own stuff with yours and the other comments aswell, and make something really special.
1. Smart guy. Comedic pirate who's a surprising competent fighter, but also loves money is constantly trying to scam and steal from the others. Weirdly lovable in a chaotic kind of way. 2. Lancer. Charming run-away royalty who just wants freedom and glory but learns there is more to being a sailor than epic feats. Grows as a character and eventually returns to his kingdom a better man and ruler. 3. Strong guy. Stern captian hired by 4. Too old for this and is very professional. Most dangerous with a sword and seem to have a scary reputation everywhere they go but the others can't seem to figure what he did to get it. Hates them all yet somehow become everyone's dad. 4. The leader. Wide eyed adventure who found a map and collects a crew to help him find the treasure. Grew up on pirate books and dream of becoming like his heros. Encourages everyone who then turn around and encourage him in the third act break-down. 5. The kid/heart. Completely lied about his sailor experience in order to come along. Everyone knows he's bluffing but become fond and even protective of him. Can't talk to girls to save his life and so 2 and 4 help him out when he falls for cute princess or something. The three become a bro trio.
Left to right: 1: is the birdeye viewer. From how he looks, he is a respectful, nice, but alarming pirate. 2: is the default pirate, he works to ship everything around. 3: is the captain, of course, and he is the one who guides very well, with thorough instructions. 4: is the explorer. He always keeps his cutlass on as he will jump into any island with his parrot first right after the boat is anchored. 5: is the pirate’s son. A very loyal, respectful, with sometimes less talk. He is more focused on finding the cannonballs to blow any other pirate ship to bits.
I thought he was a girl singing that part but no, but at least I agree with you that he sings like an angel, he's the best singer out of the other guys, no offense!

It's taken me a few days to get my thoughts together, because I keep crying when I hear this. My grandfather was a sailor, and this was one of his favorite songs. He died when I was pretty young, but one of my most clear memories of him was a day my grandmother took me down to the harbor because his ship was coming in. We could hear them from so far out because they were all singing, and this song was among the few we heard while they pulled in. Not only are the five of you some of my favorite singers, but the way your voices mix for this song just brings back that memory in a way I can't really describe. Thank you for this, truly
Did anybody else listen to this and then immediately make up an entire convoluted story with these characters, including different voices and personalities or is that just me?
I made up my own convoluted stories with my own characters. And for some reason they have access to futuristic technology because of a time traveler who joined their crew
You know what I've noticed after listening to it for the 50th time? Each of the member's voice can be heard in the first chorus but only barely. However, as the song goes on, and their part get sung, they then get louder and you can easily hear them! ITS ABSOLUTE GENIUS AND BEAUTIFUL I LOVE IT!.
I thought I was the only one who heard that! Glad I'm not alone. I love their voices together, but my favorite thing is trying to pick out each part after listening to it a few times :)
Jonathan's dress is fitting of a Quartermaster, but not flashy enough to necessarily be Captain. Caleb is the Boatswain, in charge of maintaining the crews moral and order. TSS is your gunner/Master-at-arms. PelleK is our Helmsman and Nate is the resident navigator.
How they look=their personality 1. This man is a true pirate. 2. This man comes from the desert. 3. This man is a kinda edgy captain 4. A true adventurer 5. This guy gets all the ladies 😏
I would say 2. Is a just pirate in the mediterranean, because that was a decently common style in that area and his skin makes him look like he's more from around Greece

Here is my take on the characters' design:
1. Antony is the most experienced sailor on this ship. He is very familiar with knots and sails. Very optimistic and has a positive point of view all the time.
2. Nate is the literate one here. Knows more than two languages. Knows astronomy, geomatics, geography, etc. Has a high taste in literally everything.
3. Johnathan is the captain. Very serious and poker face all the time. Very good leader and knows how to give the right orders in the tightest situations.
4. Caleb is the captain's right hand. The one who accompanied the captain in all of his travels. The captain trusts him the most. He takes care of the things that bother the captain. Would sacrifice himself for the captain and his crew.
5. Pellek is the fresh one. A young man living his dream to sail away and travel the world and the seven seas. He has a lot to learn but he is a fast learner and adapted very quickly to the life of a sailor.

Caleb: The main character's closest confidant, I see him as possibly the brother to the main character and always there to defend them. No matter the struggle, Caleb will always be there, full of confidence the crew can defeat the odds.
Anthony: Anthony I imagine to be the fun crewmate, always starting the shanties as well as drinking on the job (occasionally), but in situations of life and death, he'll fight full of heart because he knows the crew is a family to him.
Jonathon: Definitely the captain that is hard and cold to the main character, but soon they begin to warm up, and he even joins in on the sea shanties and gives the crew his wisdom. Might die during it and make the main character the captain.
Pellek: The crewmate who is the captain's most trusted, a hearty soldier in war, and also a good friend to trust. Always putting the crew ahead of himself, might even be hiding something which he thinks is good to hide.
Nate: Nate is the youngest crewmember, always being there to lend a helping hand while he still learns the ropes. A possible candidate for the main character.
I'm back in my pirate phase because of this.

For those that do not know the meaning of this song and probably I do not know it correctly too, but I recall a documentary - back in the day sailors would be paid in sugar or rum, tea and of course money. Because the sailors would often work in places were money had no meaning as they could not really spend it, it was those things (sugar, rum, tea etc.) they waited the most for. And because the company was called Weller brothers, probably the song developed into something else - waiting for a ship called wellerman. Hence they would wait for that ship that would come and pay their wages and would sing it to raise morale. Back then you also would sing songs that gave your rhythm to do certain things on the ship and synchronize certain tasks, those songs were then called shanties. Shanties really were the work songs, while a song like this would be called something else most likely, but I do not recall the name.

Look at these Avengers
Many people are talking about this being an animated series-I imagine this song as the series’ opening. It opens on Caleb with his parrot, in the crows nest, looking around through the spyglass maybe tossing it around a bit, and at the end of his first verse his parrot takes off from his shoulder and the camera follows it to each of the other crew members in turn, with whatever they’re getting up to.
For his verse, I picture the parrot finds Anthony flirting with a bunch of girls in the port before the parrot seems to insult one of the women (presumably in Anthony’s voice,) causing her to slap him at the end of his verse, and during the chorus the parrot tugs on his collar to lead him back to the ship, and he grumpily sighs and complies.
Then the parrot swoops through a window into the darker captain’s quarters to find Jonathan, looking over a map or a letter or something, which, at the end of his verse, he either stabs with a dagger on a big red X (if a map) or stamps with a wax seal (if it’s a letter).
Pellek (1st mate) is in the scene during Jonathan’s verse, and while it transitions to his, the parrot alights on his shoulder as he exits the cabin to follow some order and/or otherwise directing people on the ship as they appear to prepare the boat for sailing, and as he passes Nate, who is slacking off at his post or otherwise breaking a rule, Pellek smacks him with his sheathed saber at the end of his verse to get him in line. (I picture Pellek as the 1st mate AND Quartermaster, sue me).
After pouting/acting all irritated at the start of the chorus leading to his verse, Nate gets back to his job, scaling the ropes like a spider monkey and helping to untie the sails while the anchor is hoisted beneath him. At the end of his verse/getting into the chorus, he takes a daring leap off the sails to surf down the fabric (the parrot racing him) after which the camera follows the parrot back to Caleb, who has made his way to the bowsprit (the front of the boat where they put the carved ladies or whatever) where he belts out the end of the song looking like Quasimodo in “Out There,” as the ship is sailing out to sea and the rest of the main cast gather at the front of the ship as well, albeit a bit less dramatically, and sure enough, right at the pause before the very end, Caleb slips and almost falls, before one or two of the others grab a hold of him, and they sing the final note as the title card appears.
Positions as I see them:
Caleb: POV protagonist; either the sailing master (navigator) or master carpenter/surgeon. Might also be funny if he joins on as the cook and then proves himself to have the talent for one of the above jobs. Joined for some selfless yet still personal reason. His predecessor met some fate shortly before Caleb showed up; said fate is often alluded to yet humorously unclear.
Anthony: master gunner (in charge of guns/cannons/ammo), and master flirt. But if necessary he can help out with almost any other job (except surgeon. Anthony says fuck that.) He wields a blunderbuss (google it, big pirate gun)
Pellek: as stated, 1st mate and Quartermaster (in charge of maintaining order/discipline, but was also the go-between for the lower ranks and the captain-so, total oldest brother energy.)
Note: I could also see Pellek as sailmaster and Anthony as 1st mate, but we’d still need a master gunner.
Jonathan: Captain. Just-It’s the hat. He’s looking for a specific treasure hoard. I think we’re all in agreement.
Nate: long ago, stowed away as a cabin boy or sailor but was quickly found out as a runaway aristocrat kid cause that boy was socially SHELTERED. But, his fancy tutoring and his talent for acrobatics (read: lack of proper fear response) made him an ideal sail master and/or boatswain (managing supplies and maintenance (including money) and helping direct orders for the general running of the ship-tho I feel like most of that last responsibility would fall to Pellek. Nate has a certain affinity/talent for ropes and knots; he can fix snags or tangles faster than most, and has no problem going up super high to fix things. He likes manipulating the ropes as his main way of getting around the ship.)

that's some good stuff! the idea of a one-take opening is real clever, and though the characters details are still up for discussion since this is a mix of headcanons, all your ideas seem really fitting, even more fitting then my own original ideas. you also seem to know more about pirates than me, lol. i really like the idea of PelleK as this younger guy that gives off massive older bro energy. anyway, take a look at the reply thread in my comment and if you have any idea about the girl's crew (we're hoping some cover girls might cover in the same style of this one) let us know! thanks for your creativity!

Everyone’s writing backstories for the characters so imma take a shot at it. (Feedback is welcome-)
Caleb’s character- The main protagonist. He’s a happy go lucky man who comes from a dull part of the island he was born on. He dreams of becoming a well known pirate and wants to find legendary treasures and potentially help his community out. But he knows he can’t do it alone so, along with his parrot Percy, (I somehow hope someone will get the reference) Caleb sets out to find a crew to go on adventures with.
Anthony’s character- The childhood best friend. Anthony is the spunky and outgoing friend of Caleb who loves to pull pranks on others. He was born on the same island as Caleb and they grew up together but grew apart due to family matters and him starting to get interested in mineral study. They meet again in a bar and during their reunion, Caleb tells Anthony about his plans. Anthony gladly accepts for the adventure and to learn more about the treasures and what comes before it.
Pellek’s character- Pellek is already the charismatic captain of another crew. Caleb and Anthony find his crew in the middle of a pillage. It takes a little while to convince Pellek to leave his crew behind, but knowing that the treasures could make him and his own crew wealthy, he joins in and leaves his right hand person in charge. He soon however learns the value of friends is greater than riches and his morals start to shift.
Nathan’s character- Nathan is a nimble and resourceful outlaw trying to survive on the streets. He accidentally runs into the crew while trying to outrun the law and the crew helps him hide. Not sure why he was running from guards, the group asks. Nate just claims he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. He asked the crew what they were doing and they explain. Caleb asks if he wants to join. Both Nate and Anthony are weary of the situation. But with time running low, he joins the crew. Unknown to them however, the real reason why Nate is an outlaw is because he is secretly a half merman and this secret progressively gets harder to keep from his newly found crew.
Jonathan’s character- Jonathan is a stoic figure who keeps his feelings close to the chest. When the crew tries to get a boat, Jonathan volunteers to give them said boat on one condition: he joins them in looking for the treasure. Caleb agreed while the rest also agrees (but they are a bit sus. I head canon Nate’s the most sus.) Unknown to any of them is that Jonathan is the son of a feared pirate who was tasked to retrieve a particular and powerful legendary treasure long ago. Jonathan’s father passed this mission on to Jonathan and he intends on finishing what his father started under any means necessary...
(But of course he gets a redemption arc (: )

so, guys, some very imaginative and awesome people have been making their own assumptions about the pirate crew in the comments, making up personalities and all the great stuff, and i'd like to humbly contribute with my own ideas. i don't know nothing about the personality of the guys that are singing IRL, i just will come up with stuff that i presume from the vibes of the characters in the drawings and take some of the great ideas on other comments and implement them here. my english is broken but my creativity knows no boundaries, so i hope you enjoy!
Caleb: probably the main character of the story. is younger than he seems to be due to the beard and is very passionate about everything. maybe he can have that Shonen Protag vibe, the very positive and also impulsive character that began from nothing and wants to reach greatness, i don't know. he never really explained to anyone how he got his parrot and always comes up with absurd stories about it, it's a joke among the crew. wholesome 200% of the time. great swordfighter.
Anthony: the first mate. a trickster and a thief, great at taking things from people without leting them notice (if there's a prettier name for that i don't know). is very good at acrobacies, enjoys swinging through the ropes and sails of the ship and is also great at the usage of daggers. he likes to get drunk and gets in and out of trouble real well through his silver tongue. seems careless and treacherous but is good-hearted and a loyal friend. gained the nickname "10 seconds anthony" for sinking a ship in 10 seconds flat. (hope you don't mind me, steve schultz)
Jonathan: the very serious, mature and stoic captain that probably will die in the end. seems aloof and strict but deep down cares a lot about each member of his crew and always makes sure to help them when they need, but you DON'T want to see him mad. no one knows much about his past, but he always seems to be hiding something that makes him... guilty? maybe we will find out one day.
Pellek: older and more mature than he seems to be, he's the son of an old member of the crew that died in battle and that maybe made jonathan swear to take care of him (sorry, i know that's a bit cliche but i love a well-used trope). a very centred and not all that violent soul that has a fascination for maps, being the responsable for courses and routes, and is great at advices, but that also knows how to use a sword. there probably is a very funny "brotherly" chemestry among him, Caleb and Anthony, Anthony being the funny and troublemaker older bro, Caleb being the easily excited and bubbly middle bro and Pellek being the smarter and careful younger bro that tries to avoid trouble but always ends up in the middle of the mess.
Nate: son of the high society, he decided at a young age that the life that was planned to him wasn't the one he wanted to live, so he ran away and sneaked into the ship when he was 15. when he was found, the captain decided he could stay, but only if he did various hard chores for weeks. nate endured it and slowly became a part of the family. the good education he recieved on his youth made him become the treasurer of the ship.
This was worth the read.

Here's my ideas, left to right.
1: An outgoing pillager, however not lazy. He's a big fan of playing games with the rest of the ship members.
2: A gold-snatching anarchist, the most sarcastic of the team, keeping his eye on his gold and other's gold. The captain keeps a close eye on this loose cannon.
3: A formidable captain, doing anything to keep his ship afloat. Does enjoy playing the pillager's games in his freetime.
4: The pirate trainer, putting their ship members through rigorous training sessions to put them in their best form possible. Big fan of parrots.
5: The seducer, able to sweet talk out of many situations, but will get his hands dirty if needed. He enjoys messing with the captain and the pillager.

Caleb: The main character, he woke up shipwrecked on a deserted island. He joined a ramshackle crew consisting of the other characters to get home. That parrot has stuck with him since the shipwreck. Serves him well as the lookout.
Anthony: An islander who serves as the first mate. The funny one who will always have a witty comeback, if a shanty breaks out onboard, he's the one leading it. He has a habit of getting drunk at any opportunity. Gained the nickname "10 Seconds Anthony" for sinking a ship in 10 seconds flat.
Jonathan: The captain. Trusts Anthony with his life. The whole crew knows that something happened to Captain Young, but not even Anthony knows.
Pellek: A bored aristocrat who turned to a life as a pirate. Pellek is a hardy solider in war, but don't expect him to get anywhere near a barrel of gunpowder. Stain his suit and you'll never hear the end of it.
Nate: The ship's treasurer. He's in it for the treasure. He has a high chance of getting convinced by the villains to betray his crew, but he'll realize how much he's hurting the closest to family he's gotten and stop. He shall be forgiven. Eventually.

Caleb is, of course, the protagonist of this whole thing. Joined the crew on episode one. Is constantly learning about his crew. He can swim, swordfight, and sing. He'll learn the rest during the season(s).
Nate, Anthony, and Pellek are in the protagonist friend group. Might die for the plot and character development, might not. Depends.

While only taller than Caleb, he wears them platform boots and is then taller than everyone. While he's strict, but not excessive like Pellek sometimes, he does care for the crew. He already has some character to him. A past that will be revealed later, like beef with other crews, or why is he so serious about certain things that the others aren't serious with.

During one episode, another ship, yes a third ship, kidnaps one of the ladies' crew and Caleb, holding them fer ransom. The two crews have to work together and save both of them, without paying the ransom because what pirate pays the ransom?
A season finale would be special in which they've finally closed the plot, Johnathan is probably dead, but his spirit is there just vibing with other pirate spirits as both crews vibe, party, and drink into the night.

Edit 3: @cjdeathhunter, thanks for the reminder. Okay, so, if this is gonna happen, we would need people to plan out character development. We need to figure out where this is going to end, where it's gonna start, and how to plan out the episodes from start to finish so it's not repetitive but you can still follow it. Characters should be mainly based on the people themselves and these comments. If the girls do their own cover, which would be nice but don't force it, we got another pirate crew.
We would need writers, storyboard artists, people to choreograph fight scenes, those that know how pirate crew roles work, we would need a theme song, credits, background music, SFX, character designers, producers, and funding. Hm, as for the fps, that's on whoever is doing the animation.
We would need original songs for antagonists, protagonists, etc. We would need a pilot episode.
and most of all, we need hope that one of these guys will see this.
wow. i'm literally impressed. as you can tell i'm the most present person on the comments of this trend and this characters have been on mind for a while, and i can tell all you wrote is spot-on and perfect. the idea of pellek having an awesome singing voice but being shy about it is great. anthony and nate are great too, and Captain Jonathan gracefully fighting in plataform boots is priceless. also, thank you for your contributions to the plot, i had been needing some ideas for it! i can imagine the first episodes flowing in a way that the external conflit ties in with some internal conflit of a member of the crew, giving a chance for caleb and the viewer to know each crewmember better. the same thing could happen in parallel with the girls' crew. about the girls, the ideas about them and having these two crews that in the beginning would kinda hate each other have to work together is really clever! maybe in the process of the end of the first season, a member of each crew could die and they could become kind of friends? don't know, we are basing ourselves on the assumption that the girls WILL make their version of this... anyway, hopefully if we ever make this into a show (it won't happen but let me dream, ok?) we can mix my own stuff with yours and the other comments aswell, and make something really special.

How the frick do I do that face
1. Smart guy. Comedic pirate who's a surprising competent fighter, but also loves money is constantly trying to scam and steal from the others. Weirdly lovable in a chaotic kind of way.
2. Lancer. Charming run-away royalty who just wants freedom and glory but learns there is more to being a sailor than epic feats. Grows as a character and eventually returns to his kingdom a better man and ruler.
3. Strong guy. Stern captian hired by 4. Too old for this and is very professional. Most dangerous with a sword and seem to have a scary reputation everywhere they go but the others can't seem to figure what he did to get it. Hates them all yet somehow become everyone's dad.
4. The leader. Wide eyed adventure who found a map and collects a crew to help him find the treasure. Grew up on pirate books and dream of becoming like his heros. Encourages everyone who then turn around and encourage him in the third act break-down.
5. The kid/heart. Completely lied about his sailor experience in order to come along. Everyone knows he's bluffing but become fond and even protective of him. Can't talk to girls to save his life and so 2 and 4 help him out when he falls for cute princess or something. The three become a bro trio.
Yo this is epic. Now I want a Disney movie based on these characters 🙂

I can rewatch this as many times as I want, and it won't bored me
Left to right:
1: is the birdeye viewer. From how he looks, he is a respectful, nice, but alarming pirate.
2: is the default pirate, he works to ship everything around.
3: is the captain, of course, and he is the one who guides very well, with thorough instructions.
4: is the explorer. He always keeps his cutlass on as he will jump into any island with his parrot first right after the boat is anchored.
5: is the pirate’s son. A very loyal, respectful, with sometimes less talk. He is more focused on finding the cannonballs to blow any other pirate ship to bits.

I thought he was a girl singing that part but no, but at least I agree with you that he sings like an angel, he's the best singer out of the other guys, no offense!

5. the most wanted thief, tales say he can steal a diamond from right infront of your very eyes and even the hearts of any young maiden
now that you say that, they do have a similar pitch to the stereotypes
'maiden' as if pirates weren't historically very gay

I was just gonna say, PelleK looks more like the captain's right hand man (based on how he's more formally dressed), while Anthony looks more like a thief (his bandana gives me bandit vibes.)

It's taken me a few days to get my thoughts together, because I keep crying when I hear this. My grandfather was a sailor, and this was one of his favorite songs. He died when I was pretty young, but one of my most clear memories of him was a day my grandmother took me down to the harbor because his ship was coming in. We could hear them from so far out because they were all singing, and this song was among the few we heard while they pulled in. Not only are the five of you some of my favorite singers, but the way your voices mix for this song just brings back that memory in a way I can't really describe. Thank you for this, truly

Did anybody else listen to this and then immediately make up an entire convoluted story with these characters, including different voices and personalities or is that just me?
I'm just silently praying for Nate to invite the 4 others to a pirate themed D&D campaign where everyone play their characters as drawn here.

I made up my own convoluted stories with my own characters. And for some reason they have access to futuristic technology because of a time traveler who joined their crew

OH MY GOD HE NOTICED ME
You know what I've noticed after listening to it for the 50th time? Each of the member's voice can be heard in the first chorus but only barely. However, as the song goes on, and their part get sung, they then get louder and you can easily hear them! ITS ABSOLUTE GENIUS AND BEAUTIFUL I LOVE IT!.
I thought I was the only one who heard that! Glad I'm not alone. I love their voices together, but my favorite thing is trying to pick out each part after listening to it a few times :)

Jonathan's dress is fitting of a Quartermaster, but not flashy enough to necessarily be Captain. Caleb is the Boatswain, in charge of maintaining the crews moral and order. TSS is your gunner/Master-at-arms. PelleK is our Helmsman and Nate is the resident navigator.

I would say 2. Is a just pirate in the mediterranean, because that was a decently common style in that area and his skin makes him look like he's more from around Greece

@@loturzelrestaurant Wellerman is an old Whaler shanty sung by Whalers aboard an old ship owned by what was at the time basically a slave company in which you were either to finish the job or die trying and the Wellerman they speak of in the song is the Supply boat owned by the Weller Brothers company which brought supplies to Whaling ships on their journeys.
God I used to be obsessed with PelleK. Haven't listened to his stuff in a couple years. I was so shocked to hear his voice I knew it instantly. Time to go back.
