What a bummer!! Sepp Kuss was joy to watch last year at the tour!
🥲🦋
Sepp has looked like shit so far this year. I wouldn't be shocked at all if he is sick. Last year Sepp rode all three Grand Tours. This year maybe one. Let's hope Sepp recovers to defend LaVuelta.
Yes, they said he is still not recovered from COVID
It's kind of hard saying that he's ridden like shit, but he's definitely not on the level of last year. I wish that I was as shitty a rider as he is!
right !! I wonder if he took too much PEDs last year that his body couldn't handle it.
Visma rode him like a mule all year last year. (chickens coming home to roost)
🤞🦋
Just shows how magical a year that Jumbo Visma had last year!
Once Jumbo bailed the team went to shit. Lease a Bike is jinxed.
Yep 💪🦋
@@patrickwong4824they lose a bike!
they had some doping issues!
Its gonna be really i teresting to see jonas without the greatest team ever (hes obciously a great rider but he had teams with him that were unbelievable to even be possible)
Visma is going to have to win with better team tactics rather than pure strength. It can still be done. I can't handle any more "ifs" and scenarios. Bring on the race!!
This is a massive hit for Jonas, BUT it also presents a massive opportunity for Jorgenson to step up in a big way. Jorgenson himself has said that the infrastructure of Visma completely ramped up his training and form, so now is the time to put that to the test.
Jorgenson aside, this is an opportunity for the rest of the team to step up in support of the team.
2024 Tour de France odds:
Tadej Pogačar (-165) Jonas Vingegaard (+200) Primož Roglič (+800) Remco Evenepoel (+1400)
Juan Ayuso (+3300) Carlos Rodríguez (+3300) Adam Yates (+3300) João Almeida (+3300)
Yates is pretty low, I’d expected him to be higher up there
@@Knofris Hes right behind Evenepoel
Thats your top 8
Wild card. G has better fitness than his Giro level and he is in the top five. And hopefully does not crash. 🤞🤔🦋👊
@ChrisHornerCycling
YOUR Time to jump on the pedals again, Mr. Horner!
I would bet on Chris to get the oldest TDF rider ever❤
How many grand tours has Sepp ridden in the last 4 years? It’s gotta come at a price.
Yeah only people that ride grand tours get sick xd
Chris - Any comment on Canvadish’s odds of winning a stage? My mind says “No”, but my heart says “I hope so!”
If Cavendish is on his top form of 2023 he has about 25 to 50% chance of winning one. It only really requires 2 sprinters to be out of position, and there are a number of stages to see that come up., If is is not at that level then no chance.
As long as cheater Jasper doesn’t cut him off…
Chances are: slim and none.
Good news is: slim is on vacation.
cannibel prob will be in the ear of belgian riders _ whispering for them to defend his legacy and outsprint Cav.
"No", but my heart says "Hell nooooooo!!"
Sad that COVID will stop the mailman from making his deliveries in this year’s tour.
Get well soon Durango Kid
🤞🦋👊
🇺🇸🦋
How do you get better of doping ( painkillers ) another American doper
Jonas was already in trouble with his injuries ... and Sepp didn't look anything like last year.
Definitely! Seems that doing the 3 grand tours at a super high level last year is taking at him
Jorgenson will have a breakout tour as a key rider for Jonas
Well, Jonas can still count on Ineos for controling the field for him 😁
Tadej too
That's sad news.... 😑
🥲🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
This is quite a while for Sepp to be sick. Hopefully he can fully recover for later in the season.
We're not done with COVID
@@adamfeerst2575too bad we don’t have a treatment to prevent it. Shame.
🤞🦋
I'm from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia...since le tour de Langkawi I was a fan of yours and still am...Cheers Bro👍👌
That’s was a fun week of racing for me. I remember it well. 👊🦋
Not a super big thing Chris but want to give you props for always dressing professionally on your show here. It tells us you take it seriously and respect your viewers, and I appreciate it.
Pogi is going to smash the first four stages so Jonas never gets the chance to recuperate and/or regain his fighting form from 2023.
I’m with you on that ☝️
This is going to be a VERY UNIQUE TdF then!! We’ve never seen such tactics have we?
@@SamuelBlackMetalRider its unique in several ways actually, then throw in gravel stages etc too :)
@@SamuelBlackMetalRider it's exactly what Pogi did at the 2024 Giro. 👀
everybody says that until he says in the radio comm his dead.. lol
Let’s be realistic here, this years TdF is Pogi’s to lose. Bar some disaster to befall the no1 ranked rider on the butterfly effect he should win at a canter. Visma is the only team on par with UAE when it’s at full strength. Jonas and Wout have both been injured and now Sepp is out. That’s Visma’s top three riders whereas UAE have been cooking on gas for the whole season so far. We can only hope Wout is the monster we know he is and Jonas is at least at 99% on Saturday so we get what we want.
We all wanted an exciting contest so this is sad news. Get well Sepp.
uae have beat little for the same reasons and recency bias is big
Sepp needs to defend his Vuelta title. It should be his main goal for 2024. Everything else is secondary
lmao, that is jonas's to win buddy
@@niklashentze8114 Rumours have it that Jonas has family plans during the Vuelta. Could be a second child or something.
the Vuelta is a lesser race, if anything, it's secondary.
Now it’s all that’s left. 🤞🦋👊
We are giving that one to Fr. Matteo.
perhaps is the best outcome for Sepp to fully recover so he can go to La Vuelta as a leader and perform at 100% level ...
speedy recovery to him.
Jonas will go to the Vuelta at leader and dominate
@@ShadowboostLa Vuelta will be taken by our other US kid Matteo.
@@crispusmahea2135 Jonas is going to destroy Matteo when he's back to full form. And I mean destroy like 10+ minutes
Tadej dominance is closer than ever
Yep. 🤔🦋👍
Wow! One of your best analyses! So glad that fan asked that question! Real bummer about Sepp even though I'm a Rogliĉ supporter.
Sad to hear
🥲🦋
A healthy Wout can match anyone on the shorter climbs like stage 1. If Matteo gets away with Pog (and others), I'd guess that he sits on him rather than help pull. Matteo might be able to do what Sepp did as a super domestique. He hasn't been asked to yet.
😂😂😂
Yep. Healthy Wout could do about anything on stage one. Save the day and possibly win the stage. 🤪🤞🦋💪
UAE is like the Avengers this year no one stands a chance not even a healthy Jonas
Janos will be dropped the first time as pressure at the front. It will be disaster as Visma won’t be ready to let Matteo and wild go.
Yep thought and said the same thing in ch's post re uae being the strongest team and all the ifs ands and maybe scenarios regarding VL being in trouble and who would be able from the vl team to follow Pogacar .
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I couldn't understand what you said so I clicked the "translate to english" and I see you said "Noooooooooo!" 😂
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
😱😲🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Going to be interesting how Jonas descends after that crash with no race days, could be a big factor.
imo, he's going to descend balls to the wall to make up for lack of form
The 2024 TdF seems to be a “Tour to forget” for Jumbo Visma.
For the ones not knowing, Sepp is still affected by Corona from earlier this year - and it’s not the beer.
Dear Chris. Bart Lemmen, his surname is pronounced: Lemm- (like in the first 3 letters of lemon) and the "en" after is like the English "and" without the d.
I loved watching you race. It is nice that you are still in the game on the commentary side.
UAE is going all out on stage 1. They are going to crush everyone! I would not be surprised to see Tadej put two minutes on everyone. If not, then the other contenders have a chance however, they have the guns to beat every opponent.
That’s fantasy
I agree, he is the outright fav by a mile.
first stage there are over 200 fit riders, thats paying them little respect id say
Why wasn't Cian Uijtdebroeks selected? Even though he rode the Giro, he had to abandoned due to illness. Could it be that he has not fully recovered from his illness?
"Illness"
He hasn’t fully recovered he was struggling on tour de suisse
couldnt pronounce his name
Sepp's form has been well off in 2024, wasn't expecting a lot out of him for this tour
Bummer!
Jorgenson will make up for the loss of Kuss.
They could have brought Uijtdebroeks. He only did half the giro and the tour of suisse 🤔
@@Eirikkinserdalno
Knew I could trust you to talk about this Chris. So so bummed, as a huge fan of Kuss. Really could change a lot, eh?! 🚴♀️🦋
So now that the Tour is just a few days away, I'm up for some speculation again, lol. So Tadej and team smoke the field on the first day, no? He tried to go flag-to-flag in Pink, so my guess is that he wants to do it in Yellow. And I think it is brave of Jonas to suit up for the Tour, just as it was for Evel Knievel to do another jump upon release from the hospital after a bad landing. And if this is an off year, understandably so, his simply competing is a personal victory and a stage win would be as big as Greg's first in the '89 Tour. And with Sepp not reaching a next level so far this year, has it been complications of some sort all season? Hopefully, July will help him recover for August. And thanks, Chris, I sure am looking forward to watching it all on the proverbial Chasterfield! Proverbial for us, literal for you because you are a big rock star. 😀
Can’t wait! Rest up 🦅
Great presentation!
Jonas should be in physical rehab, not racing. It took a year for Tadej to heal just his broken wrist.
Jonas is racing because Lease-a- bike spent $50,000,000 + to be Jumbo's sponsor
Agreed.. Tadej was not allowed to use the injury as an excuse.. people could not get enough bashing in when he cracked... we'll wait to see what is said after this race... if Jonas is not winning... guaranteed the injuries will be blamed.. unlike with Tadej
Dont Think JV has a Record of excusing for losses. Like TP. Normally it is the fanboys who has all the excuses.
That being Said Pogachars injury Can not be compared to Vingegaards which had a much bigger impact (Said the fanboy 😉)
he doesnt go there less than 95%, they aint daft
That’s probably the final nail in the coffin then. At this point, we just have to hope it stays a little bit competitive and gives us something compelling to watch.
Ouch!
😱🦋
Visma will have to have a (1 for 1) match of domestiques with UAE in order to think they're going to be able to sit on the train of UAE pre-Tadej launch for the stage. I have a feeling by the time UAE get down to Yates & Almeida, Jonas will prob only have Jorgensen and his climbing style is more diesel train than explosive. By the time Tadej hits the launch switch, the whittling down of the group will be domestique(less), with one UAE rider still able to lurk on wheels to anybody that even thinks about chasing him. (( legs will fall short ))
😂😂😂exactly Mateo will try to follow and that’s when Joao and Adam will suck his wheel 😂😂😂
Hey Chris, it looks like I will be restricted in time in July and instead of watching the stages life I will rely on your highlights and insights. What a fun 3 weeks! Also, Leif Lorenzen says hi 😀🤘🏻🚴♂️🦋
I could see a senario, where UAE copy's what jumpo did against Pogi on stage 11 at the 2022 tdf. By attacking Vingegaard with their multible gc riders, where vingegaards domestiques probably wouldn't be able to follow nor help.
This is a blow for JV, I have an odd theory, please feel free to call me out, JV has a greater chance of winning this year's TDF if Remco and Primoz are on form. TP, RE and PR could mark each other out of the game. JV can sit on wheels and snipe. If PR and RE aren't on form it puts a lot more weight on JV and his team. This is assuming the TP is on form. As a fan, all we can hope for is that they are all on form and they keep it rubber side down. Only 3 more sleeps......😅
Ahhh, no Sepp, that is not good news. Going to be tough for Jonas
The little 🦋 effect to next year is that a lot of riders will get/taste more responsibility earlier in their careers due to all of this crashes and unwellneses in this years peloton. And that we got 4-5teams instead of two last year.
We'll see if it leads to knuggleheadism in the tour. But my, it will be exciting. UEA can't lead the peloton like USPS or leaders need to be if they are as good as even Pogaçar is for 3weeks. So they must give the
jersey away at some point is what I see. And which of the other teams do they dare to lend it to?
I'm almost looking most forward to Chris reviews more than the race itself.
Tough news for Sepp, hope he recovers quickly. Opportunity for Jorg. I don’t think it matters regarding GC. Unless Jonas is super human and is in 2023 form, I don’t think any rider can hang with Pogi this year.
Everything is going against Jonas which is bad. If Pogacar get a cake walk in the Tour it's going to be boring. Hope everything goes well in the Tour. Thanks very much Chris. You take care. 😢😢
What is your prediction for the finishing gc positions and why?
That needs to be a video. But the short version right now with zero viewing of Jonas (not really fair to Jonas or me;).
1. Pogi
2. Roglic
3. Jonas
4 Remco.
But we all should at least get to see Jonas in one or two mountain stages. 😜😂🦋👊
I did, and have been constantly bombarded with begging for money
I could see something wasn’t quite right with the Seppster…This is a huge blow for Jonas and VLAB team. 🇨🇭🦋👊
His lung was punctured in April.... April.
His collarbone will also not be fully healed.
Sepp and Wout played BIG parts in Jonas winning last year.
I just don't see it. I completely understand VIsma playing coy, but I don't think they will be a factor with GC this year.
I would not be surprised to see Jonas leave and just prep for La Vuelta now.
Yep. Heal up and then get ready. 🤞🦋👊
Crazy how Visma 2023 swept all grand tour with ease; they were so stacked!!! But now in 2024 they are absolutely ragged; sold Roglic, have Jonas and Wout crashed heavily and have Sepp being undercooked.
over cooked
Well that's a kick in the...gut. I love watching Sepp do what Sepp does. Gonna miss him in the peloton. So will Jonas. I hope Matteo is on form.
To many scenarios make it rather pointless. Still love you Chris. Looking forward to le tour
But that is the problem for Visma if they are not 100% sure of Jonas’ form. 😲👊🦋
I feel bad for Sepp, but I think for the spectacle of the tour it just adds another dimension but it doesn't help anyone vs Pogacar.
Awesome report with metaphore usage
I was glad to hear the positive talk about Wilco Kelderman. I've felt for a while now that he was a solid rider, under-rated, for example at last year's TDF--he was an important part of that pulling for Jonas on climbs. I think with the combo of him, Jorgenson, and Var Aert, they will be OK. The key will be Jonas himself, and I actually think he's going to be fine also.
Question is..will they let Van Aert win a stage or will he be asked ride the mountains for Jonas?
I would say that going up against Tadej/UAE this year is a pretty daunting task. I would think that this would make strategies more important than they are already. Would a team benefit from fanning the flames of chaos? I think that trying to start those fires can make you a target or isolate you from what you were trying to achieve in the first place. But adding a little fuel to fires that have already started? And for those pearl-clenchers, it's sad that I'm the one that tells you that we don't live in FantasyLand.
I just hope that Sepp's training hasn't exacerbated his illness... raised heart rate during COVID recovery can cause long term damage
I hope he didn't take the covid jabs since so many cardiac and other side affects are finally being admitted to after all the many lies about the efficacy of the vaccinations.
I think the first stage will have a lot of interest from quite a few Teams. Visma can sit on Trek and Alpecin and the last climb isn't steep. VDP and Pedersen will be sniffing around for a stage. Wout and Ganna too. That's unless we get a freak show from Pog, if that, then Sepp missing won't mean a thing.
Looking forward to the start of TDF 2024 Wish all riders the best It is not about winning or losing for me Just want to enjoy every moment and see that the guys perform to their ability
Just how important is stage 1? The profile graphic looks a bit frightening but none of the climbs are categorised higher than 2 and the final climbs are only 3.
I hear your points about riders working into better form over the first week but is a week long enough for a rider to go from being challenged by cat 3 climbs to shining on HC climbs?
Or are you suggesting the stage 1 climbs are seriously under categorised?
It is more that people are thinking that Remco Evenepoel or Pog will try a hard days ride followed by a pen utlimate hill launch attach similar to how you see them do it in the Spring one day races. If Jonas is not on top form he will not be able to keep up. Very few riders can, espcially if Remco and Pog get away rogether and work together to put time into Jonas.
I agree stage 1 might be overestimated. It's more or less as though as stage 1 of the 2023 tour, not so much tougher. The climbs are a little bit longer, but they are not steep.
This might be battle of the bikes and marginal gains. Jonas was so strong last year. I need to see him do well. Tadej is so focused this year and extremely prepared in 2024.
Grischa's headache was cranked up to 11. 🤣
Hope the kid recovers quickly.
UAE actually put a team together to support Tadej. Finally. Even if Kuss was riding, I don't think it will matter. Yates is the key, and was a massive addition last year.
Man.....the hits just keep on coming for TVL. I hope Sepp fully recovers and is back in the peloton soon.
Why never mentioning stage 2? Two San Luca will be interesting, it's one of Rogliic's favorite climb, also Pogi should like it. While it's less suited to Vingegaard
Good thing for VLAB, UAE is going to do tactically what they basically always do. Which is ride hard on the front. With Vingegaard being positioned as the great question mark. If Pogačar goes solo in the first week. Landa for Evenepoel &BH/Red Bull will also take their responsibility rather than let Vingegaard solve it on his own. There will likely be plenty of help
Controlling break aways might get a bit harder especially if either van Aert or Jorgenson also drops out. If Vingegaard is dropped than indeed Jorgenson will become important. UAE's strategy team aren't Machiavelli though.
We will know if Visma LAB goes to plan B, which is Matteo Jorgensen, by the end of stage 2.
It is crazy to think that Jonas will not be on good form. Tadej is a given, but if anyone out of the other 3 favorites is on good form it’s going to be Jonas. Regardless of Sepp being out, he will put up a good battle!
Stage 1 is massively important. Barring injury/crash, Pogacar is gonna attack relentlessly and we'll see right away what's what for the rest of the GC contenders.
Wow, who else do they have now.
Running out of replacements quickly over at Visma. Hopefully Jonas is a 100% 🤞😱😲🦋
Only the mountains will reveal the truth. if Jonas makes it out with grits and guts it will be one of the most sensational thing. @@ChrisHornerCycling
It is much simpler than reviewed here. Pogacar will not allow others to win the TdF. That includes teammates. If Vingegaard is not match-ready from day one and able to follow Pogacar to the steep climbs, the TdF will be a lukewarm affair like the Giro.
from the start of this season, I think Tadej Pogacar is in his prime time, I don't think he will lose this year's tour de France. I always think the biggest threat of Tadej is Tadej himself. This year could be different because of the terrifing team he brings with him. But, is it posssible that this could be the last year we see Adam Yates and Joao Almeda in UAE Emirates Team ? Those 2 riders, especially Almeda could want to try to win next year Tour de France in a different team.
Joao is not leaving mate
Visma got to be so happy that they have jorgenson on their rostet. Imagine how the season of them would look like without him.
Man 2024 has dealt Visma some pretty tough breaks. Hope Sepp Kuss recovers quickly and completely from Covid. It can be a nasty virus in some cases.
So your thinking is, for the early stages Pogi's strategy is to go all in like a one-day race, get a lead and then let his team defend against everything the other three throw at him? Makes sense given UAE should be strongest of the three in the high altitude, esp w/o Sepp. Pogi would still need to drop Remco once so he has a time trial cushion. Will the other three tag team attack him if they have the legs? Or too risky if they are resigned to riding for the podium? Maybe depends on what they think their time trial chances are against each other. Fun to speculate!
The American Flying Eagle now the American Roosting Eagle.
😂😂😂😂
Jonas will use this as a training ride to beat poggy in the vuelta. He'll retire on the second rest day so he doesn't have to suffer the last week.
😂😂😂😂
Jonas already said he is not doing the Vuelta. This year his team is not the best - it is not just how good the leader is.. it's the team support... Tadej has not had the same strong team as Jonas in the past...
@@fredanaude9491but this year they do, and even better. Last two years it took a whole JV team to win TP.
@@rolandgreen4318 and what a tt the whole team rode!
The other favourites must not let their guard down..JV will have a back up and it only makes him dig deeper and come out stronger..but my bet is on TP
Pogi 💪🦋
I don't think Jonas finishes and will pull out on a rest day. Remco will finish, have a couple of stage wins, but won't be top 10. 1.Pog 2. Rog 3. Yates
I'm just rooting for the 🦋to get the silver plaque by the end of the tour!
Now that Sepp Kuss is out it's gonna come down to Van Aert in the mountains if he can last and now the breakaways have more chances cause who's gonna pull at the end. Vingegaard if he's in shape he's gonna have to follow Pogacar at all times because if Van Aert drops then it's gonna be about Adam Yates pulling Pogacar and Vingegaard would follow.🤔🦋🦋
Jorgensen will be more critical to Jonas than Van Aert.
But can they now send Wout far up the road and leave Jonas vulnerable to team attack.
@ptbot3294 I don't think Wouts form is gonna be good enough he will only go so far up the mountains and I only see Jonas following Pogacar the whole way the best he can.🤔
If Jonas cannot follow. It’s going to be a hard TdF always chancing behind. 😱🦋
I’m sad about Sepp’s withdrawal, but perhaps it sets him up to defend his Vuelta title.
Chris Horner: " Jonas Vingegaard is in TROUBLE "
WinGegaard: "No worries. TROUBLE is my legal drug!"
And just today I was wondering if Covid is still a thing.....I guess so.
It sure is. Has hit me hard this time around too.
I think it will be good or it will make more sense if they can let Sepp Kuss recover and prepare himself to defend his title at the Valta since he miss the two first Grand Tours the Giro and the Tour De France.
Without Sepp,Johan is way behind the 8 ball. Pogacar just moved further ahead without even a pedal stroke
I enjoy listening to Chris as he adds excitement to whatever race is on but I disagree with his views on this years TDF.
I have said from a month ago that Visma is in bad shape this year whilst Uae are in superb shape.
lets get real, Visma should be looking for stage wins. If Jonas can make top 10 he should be pleased with that.
Exactly
I agree with you that Jonas should be happy just to start the TdF because he gave 100% since his crash. But I believe if tenth is the best he can do then I tell Jonas to do only the first week and focus on the Vuelta. 🤔🦋👊👊👊🇪🇸
@@ChrisHornerCycling Yeh the Vuelta is the teams goal in my opinion, but they are racing the TDF for two reasons
1. Get some racing into the team which have not had much this year. Training alone is not enough.
2. To keep the sponsors happy. nothing like a story of Vingo each day of the TDF because of his amazing comeback. win lose or draw the media will be all over VISMA'S Vingo everyday. Sponsors want their value for money.
I saw in an interview a theory that makes sense. Maybe team Visma Lease a bike did not put Jonas on any race after his accident because they want to hide the fact that he is in very good form.
So everybody is expecting him not to be well in the firt stages, but he migh just have an ace in his sleeve
Do you think Tadej’s current form is better than Jonas’s form in 2023?
This sure looks like the best Tadej has ever been.
Tadej is a better overall rider than JV. If we look at last year, Tadej looked ready during the first 2 weeks, except for one stage. By the 3rd week, Tadej’s lack of racing before the Tour revealed itself. As of now, JV’s form is an unknown. If we use last year as comparison, JV can’t be considered 100% for not racing the last 3 months.
As far as form, Tadej looks much sharper & determined this season. Relative to JV’s 2023 form, time will tell.
Sepp 2024 has looked like a completely different rider compared to Sepp 2023. Obviously a huge loss for Visma, but I honestly hadn’t seen enough from him this year to feel that he would have been the same difference maker that he was last year. I imagine it’s hard to keep the same level of focus after such a grueling year last year.
Damn :( that sucks for Jonas :((
And it happened just that fast. Visma went from a top favorite to the Bad News Bears, Ahhhrg!
Hi Chris
I think you are more of an optimist regarding jonas
Massive crash, long stretch out of the saddle, no competitive cycling and now no Sepp. I think his tour is over
