Great looking Wakizashi, man. I got myself a T10 tool steel katana for only $157. You are exactly right and I also mention this in my video - most modern steels are WAY superior to the traditional medieval tamahagane steel. Too bad katana cultists can't get this through their head.
Well made tamahagane katana could put 10 cm hole in steel helmet without rolling chipping or scratching. You have documentary about that. Btw traditional katana have good balans and geometry since they are forged and not grinded. I don't see how tamahagane(high carbon) blade with superior geometry is worse than some trash modern blade with bad balance and fittings that are made from crap and not right size.

Looking at the handle wrap materials on these swords and wondering if it's possible to get a company to test out a handle wrap like on the CRKT Obake line of knives. Those knives use a kind of imitation rayskin wrap, but they're epoxied in place and more solid than a real leather wrap. If that concept works on a sword wrap it'd not only be vegan friendly but possibly stronger than traditional materials, almost never needing to be re-tightened. This would also challenge the fear that sword companies have to make "high end" stuff with non-traditional materials and not make it look like something out of a zombie movie If swords were still serious battle weapons, they'd def be made with the kind of synthetic materials used on high end sports equipment like tennis rackets, given that natural leather is vulnerable to moisture and temperature changes.
