- Shred Guitar in the 80s: In this episode I look at the brief time Yngwie Malmsteen endorsed Aria Pro 2 guitars and I do some playing and fast picking on my 1984 Aria Pro 2 RS Straycat. I also review the Randy Rhoads with Ozzy Osbourne 2011 box set.

Jaysus, the playing here is tasty as!
I have just resenty purchased a 85 Aria Pro ll Night Warrior and it is a hell of guitar, I am really play bass but I play just enough guitar to fake it. I stoped playing for over 20 years and started playing again about 2 years ago and have purchased quite a few Japanese guitars and basses. Aria Pro ll zz Deluxe guitar and the Aris Pro ll zzb bass. A Westone Concord bass, Westbury Track ll bass, Westbury Standard guitar and I can't say enough about the late 70's - mid 80's Japanese instruments, no more Fender or Gibson for me.
Nice playing! I have a white 1984 Knight Warrior I think I'll bring back to life since you did such an inspiring video. My first electric guitar which is languishing in storage. Hopefully I can get the Kahler Flyer trem working. Damn things have gotten expensive
The red RS Straycat was my first electric guitar as a kid. My mom got it used from a local guitar shop for Christmas when I was probably about 13 years old. I'm 32 now and still have it. I just began getting back into playing a couple years ago and sometimes I put down the Les Paul or Tele to jam on the Straycat. I have a good deal of nostalgia for it and will probably hold onto it forever.
Hello! Thanks a lot for sharing that with me! I got my RS Straycat back in 1985 and I loved it! I traded it for my first Stratocaster a couple years later and I really missed it! So I bought a couple off eBay and having a lot of fun playing them! They're really fun guitars to play! Thanks a lot for watching!
Nice to see someone who can really show how good those guitars where in the time.
Man, I could listen to you play all day long 👍
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! Thank you for watching!
Cool Randy Rhoads memorabilia! Thanks for showing that Bill. I consider myself so fortunate to have seen Randy play in concert with Ozzy in Montreal in 1981. What a guitar player! Such a tragic loss a few months later.
Thank you, Gary! That Montreal concert is legendary! That would end up being recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour! So awesome you got to see it live! 🙂
@@wth522 Hi Bill, I didn't know until now that it was recorded and released. I will definitely try to track down a copy of it. Thanks for the tip!
I know a lot of it is on RUclips! I think part of it was used as the bonus live concert disk in the Diary reissue! It is one of my favorite Randy recordings!
@@wth522 I'll definitely track it down! I have very fond memories of that concert. I remember having been totally blown away by Randy's guitar playing that night. I recall thinking he was as good, if not better, than Ritchie Blackmore - who I had also seen about 4 months earlier, play a Rainbow show in Vancouver. Ritchie was on top of his game that night too.
My first axe was the APII "The Cat" I bought it in 1986 (not knowing Yngwie pictured it) I scalloped the neck, I put a Dimarzio Megadrive in the bridge and (later on) a HS3 in the neck (HSS) and replaced the original bridge for a original kahler locking trem...
Is a black beauty, I had a lot of fun playing it, sounds amazing!
But now, 30+ years later is up for sale in CL...
I hardly play it now, I have others that suits better these "modern times" for me...
I really enjoy your videos!!
All the love!
Hello! The Cat was a great guitar for all of us wanting a Strat back in the day...plus they were fun to play! Thank you so much for the comments and thank you for watching!
Hi Bill, I’m really enjoying your channel. Your playing and presentation is superb 👍
Thank you so much, Greg! Thanks a lot for watching! :)
I didn't know Aria Pro guitars till just a few minutes ago, i just came to YT to see how they sound and found your video. WOW!!! I am very interested in Fender Strats to get that Yngwie sound, but also would like to have kinda my own sound, would you recommend me getting an Aria Pro 2 o should stick to a Fender strat???
Hello! Aria Pro 2 guitars are fun to play and you can pick them up for a pretty good price on eBay. Nothing really beats a Strat for playing in the style Yngwie, but the Arias are definitely cool guitars and a lot cheaper. Thanks for watching
I just bought a aria pro II RS stray cat in black with double humbucker from FB marketplace for 150$ it's my 4th Aria Pro II over the years. I like it a lot.
That's great! They are really fun guitars to play! I have two Aria Pro II RS Straycats! I love them both! Thanks for watching! 🙂🤘
@@wth522 Oh and it has the Floyd style tremolo as well. I dont see many with that ACT 3 Tremolo much.
Nice playing! I still own a Japanese RS Straycat in white. It was the first electric guitar I ever owned and I bought it cheap in 2004. I thought it was in '85 since I found the same model in a 1985 Aria Pro II catalog online. It has "Made in Japan" engraved on the neckplate so it's definitely from before '87, but I can't find a serial number.
Hello! I have a white one from 1984 and it just has made in Japan written on the plate. It might be a 1984 model. Really fun guitars to play! 🙂🤘
Nice ripping!
Great video, Bill! Nice playing and like your channel. Just subbed! 🤘🤘🤘🤘 Turn it up! 🤣🤣🤘🤘🤘🤘
Hello, Tony! Thank you so much! I think your channel is awesome! 🤘🤘🤘 Thanks for the nice comment and thank you so much for watching! 🤟🙂🤘
Is this RS with MMK45 or the SD1 style? Sounds great
Hello! Thank you! It is a stock 1985 RS stray cat. So I believe it's the standard pickup. Thanks so much for watching!
