Nice to meet you.😊 I am a school nurse in Japan. Thank you for introducing your job description. I learned a lot. My question is. Do you also handle cases where medical care is needed at school?
Hi @iwasamika9637 It's great to meet you and discover there are school nurses in Japan! Do you work for the US on a military base? I spent 13 years at a public middle school and four years at a homeschool setting, where students are in on-campus classes for part of their education. I handled all types of medical care, including anaphylaxis, Type I Diabetes, allergies, asthma, wound care, somatic complaints, anxiety and stress to name a few. What is school nursing like in Japan?
@@TheHolisticSchoolNurse Hi, @wendydegraffenried7117 . I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks for replying to my email! I work in a college nursing department. Thanks for sharing the information about school nurses in the US. School nurses in Japan are assigned to elementary, junior high, and high schools. However, since they work as teachers, some are certified nurses and some are not. General nurses are hired to provide medical care for children with special needs. In the U.S., I know that children with ventilators also attend school, but who takes care of children with disabilities?
Hi @rubencalderon2589! There are a variety of healthcare complaints. If I had to say what is the most common complaints, I'd say: 1. Headache 2. Stomachaches 3. Menstrual cramps 4. Minor abrasions, lacerations, and contusions. 5. Cold and flu symptoms It all depends on the age level of your community!

Hello. I'm a newly hired school nurse and I would be preparing for the physical exam of my college students. can you share with me some physical examination forms or procedures? Thank you for your help
Hi @catherinealejandro-java3864, I'm sorry for taking so long to reply! You have a great question, and I'm happy to share my knowledge about physical examination forms. I would be happy to share some forms we use for exams. If you email me at wendydegraffenried@gmail.com, I'll share a few forms for health screening, unusual behavior assessments, and suicidal and non-suicidal self-harm forms. Outside of those, nurses complete traditional assessments on students when they have a complaint. I hope to hear from you! Thank you for your comment, Wendy
