sean, i don't expect you to remember, but in the beginning when you started this channel...and you did one of your first rugby reactions? i left a message, saying that if you hung in there and really got to know the game, the characters, the teams and the playing styles, you'll soon realise just how great this sport is. was i right or what? 😉👍
The Tom Curry incident was taken lightly by South Africans because Bongi had used an Afrikaans word "kant" which means side in English... that Afrikaans word "kant" is pronounced exactly like the curse word "c#n+". There was audio of that and that's why they said there is no proof... Instead of England stating it was a misunderstanding they let it go too far. No one was saying Tom Curry didn't have grounds to make a claim and Bongi would have been dealt with at World Rugby and SA Rugby if he did say it. But South Africans stood by Bongi because we don't use the "c#n+" curse word
That photo of Handre Polard looking intently at the posts, A gash on his cheek, blood running down his face. Is probably the best photo anyone who's played Rugby relates to. Cometh the hour, Cometh the man.
Hey bro! Love your videos. I’m am very proud to say my brother was the lead editor on both series! So glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully see you soon in SA
Thanks for all the Chasing the Sun 2 reviews. Great to see someone outside of South Africa appreciating and reliving the Boks RWC campaign with us in a production that should also win some accolades for, as you put it, 'the high bar' they set for sports documentaries. I have been watching your reactions to Union rugby for years and the real responses of someone who has been there himself in high level sport, makes the reactions autentic. Thanks again.
The heartbreak for Bongi was that it was the World Cup final he got injured in the first few minutes. He was the only recognized Hooker which meant that South Africa had to play with a makeshift front row.
The proof was that Bongi was speaking afrikaans, that is why all South africans backed Bongs, South Africa has a past of racism but the Boks unite us, we are over the racist nonsense, even though the politicians try to devide us, we are pretty much united and we all share the same South African heart. Also the relationship the Boks share with the All Blacks is also one of huge respect. The script speech was epic, agree on that.
as much as I agree with you on the rugby side of your comment it's disingenuous to attribute so much power to politicians regarding racism. Racism is still a day to day living experience by a lot of black and brown South Africans. The incidents of racism are on and off reported in our media. It's definitely a reality but I believe there is people that work very hard to eradicate it and hold those who make themselves guilty of racial discrimination, criminally accountable.
@@johnnieolivier1010you're right, racism never goes away, but I think in South Africa, black people are teaching white people that racism can be beat, we can live and live together, I will say South Africans will come together like no other country regardless of race.
@@CharlotteLong-nh4pt it's not our responsibility to teach racist about racism, they know exactly what they are doing. Don't put all white people in that racist box because some already are doing the work of being anti-racist and are actively participate in call-out racism where it raises its ugly head
I gotta say though, South Africans respect the All Blacks like they're our own and I always get the same from NZ fans. There's a really strange respect an camaraderie between our teams and fans. Even if we lose it will be alright, because we lose against worthy victors. Never any sore feelings or poor sportsmanship.
Like u said in this vid that the springboks play better under pressure... So did the all blacks play better under the pressure of being down a man for most of game... Mayne its cockiness from my part and south africa but I thing this game was so close cos nz was playing with one less man... I think they started playing better when they lost their captain... Before the lost him and it's was 15 players a side, the springboks seemed to have the upper hand and things was going their way but when nz was down a man they seemed to match everything the springboks through at them
I think Sa were tired from the prev matches, plus they lost their main attacking platforms when they lost BM - they couldn't win line outs and they could only gain equality in scrums. Then they lost SK for 10 mins and CK for 10 mins, so actually for half the second half, it was equal numbers, plus we lost BM - key man.
@@KekeHimona yes nz were placed under pressure, then things like that happen. Watch car racing then it will make sense, part of the pressure plan, it works both ways
NZ definitely upped their game without their captain. I remember being relieved when he got the card and then shouting when I realised it just made them madder.
Bongi literally spends his whole playing life bent over with his arms around white players, his respect for them and his coaches - in particular his relationship with Rassie should tell you it was clearly a misunderstanding by Curry. Afrikaans can be heard being spoken by the players all the time - I was virtually 15 metres from the pitch side during the World cup on three of the SA matches, I heard it being shouted all the time. Anyway, enough of that.... Great video as always Sean. Everyone with an interest in top level Rugby needs to see Chasing The Sun, Series One and Two, even if they don't support the Boks.
Nice review. Very impressed you “ get it”. Which a lot of Americans struggle with with things that aren’t American. Come visit Mzansi. You won’t go back😂
Sean, I'm not sure if you've seen it but Whistleblowers is a really good documentary as well. It's free on Rugbypass TV and provides amazing insight and perspective of the referees during the 2023 World Cup. It reminded me a lot of Chasing the Sun.
Great reaction. If I was Handre Pollard I would not have gotten stitches for the cut under the eye,I would leave it to make a nice scar and a great memento.
Ek is aan die Springbokke se kant!! (Afrikaans taal) I'm on the Springboks side!! English language) Kant means Side. The pronounce is diffrent and Curry thought Bongi sweared him lol. Was not with a " C" that a English word the English use. Lots of South Africa english and overseas pronounce is moslty different. Like can't, water, banana .
Go to Google translate and ask Google to translate from English to Afrikaans. Type in English " white side" and press translate. Just remember the English rugby team wears white. So I think Bongi just said in Afrikaans the problem was on the white side. All they heard was was "wit kant"!
With regards to that white player it's worth considering that racism is illegal here in South Africa and the Boks often speak to each other in multiple languages eg Afrikaans and also Xhosa and they might get cross and then it's Zulu and we just have to wait for cross in Hindu
I’ve got a few comments so I’m just happening to respond to yours. For clarification in my reaction. I state that he didn’t say anything racist and there was no evidence to prove it and I think we can all understand that. When I am referring to if he said something racist it should be an issue is just a general thing like if any player is being racist it should be an issue.
Apologies he didn't make a racist comment he was speaking Afrikaans to the other players on his team, I listened to what he said and it meant the ball was on the white side

Dislocated my shoulder and a few fingers but I still love rugby ❤

Exactly. England let it go too far because they wanted to get in the Springbok’s heads and make us out to be villains
Spot on we South Africans don’t like using that word. It’s a word used a lot by English and Australians
Correct we would of called him a poes
Exactly 👍 like they use twat and we feel that’s a curse word in South Africa 🤷♀️
Damn, this American knows his rugby! Keep up the content

It was a great documentary. Lots of love and respect from us here in South Africa 🇿🇦
It's worth watching Invictus to get a sense of how rugby changed how South Africans viewed each other
Watched it a few years ago
I love the reactions almost as much as I loved the series 🎉
You are a great story teller! Love listening to you!
Hey thanks for your respect for the game hope to see you at the USA RUGBY WORLD CUP from Auckland New Zealand
Sean, thank you for this. ❤ Much love..
Thank you for the review, and the promotion of the sport we love so much!
Thank you for the great analysis. Keep well and take care. Cheers from Durban, South Africa.
Can we now make INVICTUS II? The script is written. 😂😂
Na. Poor NZ. Can’t do that to kiwis again 😂
Cyril Rama played as Forrest Whittaker

62 mins NZL played with 14. 16 mins SA played with 14. Math states that is NOT equal.

Abit late here...but Naa...We definitely did make a joke of it 🤣
You are South African now you must come watch a game live, we are waiting to host you brother 🎉

england claiming racism because they're monolingual is so fucking rich given what they did to south africa.

The false accusation of racism should have been treated with more seriousness against Tom.

Lol he didn't say anything resist he said "jou KANT" in Afrikaans one of South Africa's languages means "your side" in English
