The reason Domestic Product has such a high CPR is because the Tampa Bay Derby was run so slowly at the beginning. Then the horses sprinted home as fast as they could after that half in 51 seconds. He will be ridden by Irad Ortiz and there are rumors that he will be used as a rabbit to help Brown's other entry Sierra Leone get a fast pace up front to assist his closing kick.
I would be surprised if they used Domestic Product as a rabbit for Sierra Leone, but never say never. Sometimes fresh horses are eager to go early, and runners can get hyped up in the Derby and go too fast early. They removed blinkers this year in order to get him to relax in his races, and it has really worked. He was able to settle and rally into slow splits in the Holy Bull and TB Derby.
@@vernonfrance2974 They were crawling in the Tampa Bay Derby, and in the Holy Bull as well. It is hard to get a gauge on Domestic Product because of those slow splits.
@@JarrodHorak You're right. For some reason they did not run the usual race with the speed setting a good pace. A lot of people are saying that the field is very top heavy but I don't think so. There are too many knocks on the top two to have confidence in them. Fierceness is easily discouraged and the chance of him getting slammed, bumped and challenged for the lead could be great. Sierra Leone is a plodder and a paddler and the added distance is not going to help, in my opinion. He was out finished in the Remsen by Dornoch. Catching Freedom is very consistent and he got bumped by Sierra Leone in the stretch when they raced in the Risen Star. It knocked him off stride and over behind another horse. Just a Touch has stamina influences and his loss in the Blue Grass was after only his second start. Forever Young is an enigma but definitely not to be overlooked. I am not high on Stronghold or Resilience because their final preps were against weak fields. Dornoch could surprise. It seems they were experimenting by trying to place him as a stalker when he generally vied for the lead before. Just Steel must be tired after all of those races.

There are many possible outcomes depending on the start, the race shape, and trips. Final works later this week and over the weekend will provide more clues, and the post draw will provide some answers in regards to the possible race shape.

Taking a stand against the FLA Derby winner who will go off the chalk my top 3 horses are CF SL JAT right now I'm looking at CF to win and boxing CF SL and JAT in the exotics
@@JarrodHorak That's what I'm hoping for normally I don't bet deep closer to win in the KY Derby but this Derby is an exception in a 20 horse field when you have a deep closer you need racing luck to avoid traffic 2 of my top 3 horses are deep closers I like CF to win the race SL dangerous a legit threat can win and JAT the horse I believe will be in front when they turn for home and if I'm right and he has the lead in the stretch he may very well hang on for then now JAT and the FLA Derby winner are dueling head and head and if we get fast splits that's sets up both CF and SL flying down the stretch I'll box all 3 in the exotics CF SL JAT and I'll I'll have CF on my win tickets Best of Luck to All $$

Fierceness can win or finish up the track. He has proven that on multiple occasions. It will definitely help the payouts if he throws in a clunker.
